  1. Great looking thing and a good price! Too far from me but GLWS!
  2. TBH - Although I had all the early albums, they weren't a group I was crazy on, so didn't really keep up with stuff they did after the start of the 80s
  3. Ah see I don't. I really don't care what they are like, I am not overly bothered about the relationship between a song and their artist, other than how it goes down with the crowd. I just really hate their songs. And more so, the drunk pub crowd singing their songs. I like free, I would't personally pick alright now, but to be fair, the rest of their stuff would be out of place with a general pub band. Maybe wishing well would be ok. Teenage kicks was played by most bands I have been with, and in my last band we did a multi band event, we started with it, so did the next band and I think another band did it too. BUt again, not very interesting song, but it has the advantage you can go from not hearing it to playing it live on the same day so its a space filler. Luckily we don't do that. I think in my main group we are lucky because for all the 'need your love so bad' and Cocaine (whisper quietly, we haven't played that one in a long time) and dull blues tracks, we have a huge range so we can do monkey man, take your mama, whole lotta love, money for nothing etc, so we can we have quite a bit of Ska, Pop and also some just weird stuff My motown group does the original version of tainted love!
  4. My Veto is 100% solid. OK, there are quite a few songs I don't like and I would rather not do, but my actual veto is inviolable! Well, we do some stuff like that, Oasis, luckily not teenage kicks as I have done that for too many years and never thought much of it to start with. 500 miles has also been mentioned. Crowd pleasers. I guess it depends on what else you are doing, whether it is interesting or not.
  5. Irrational vetos are good. I have one on Oasis (although I would argue that is not irrational), which the others have been annoyed about many times.
  6. Mine turned up today so I just unboxed it. Seems nicely made, will give it a spin tonight
  7. Yes, aint no mountain high enough, have been playing that recently a bit since it was over social media. Its a fun (and educational) line to do. They always are. Luckily we have quite a few Ska tunes in my main group set.
  8. Surprised noone mentioned that to us. We do motown but one of our number is a mad keen blues brothers and commitments guy that used to be in a blues brothers band, so he is normally suggesting we do some more of theirs.
  9. I would be annoyed at that. I tend to be annoyed when I hear someone play it in a pub and they have reduced it enough to take the life out of it. Which it has to be said, is almost every time I have heard it in a pub except once.
  10. Mine vary depending on what I am learning, so currently 'I can't go for that', 'Josie' by Steely dan (which caused me to learn Peg) and a few other motowns for my group, and cycle through the 40 or so in my main group,, but away from stuff I have to play, there are some I always gravitate to playing that I dont play in groups. Fool for your loving, Hit me with your rhythm stick, Master Blaster, Schism, Down in the tube station, spirit of radio, December 63, Roundabout and 'something very strange' (last one by Spocks beard, the previous ones should be self explanatory).
  11. So I notice an event near me on my local facebook group, an open mic night. How does that work then? Clearly they are not professional, it is not outside and it is not ticketed.
  12. Think that is probably why I didn't like them then, they were unpleasant for finger playing which is what I do mostly. I had some nylon flats and they work well on a 4 but not a 5.
  13. I can assure you that I have mentioned bax music many many times in the last few months 🤬
  14. Totally agree, I had that with the EHB. Its there on the spec list and I thought 'ooh that is good'. Took no time at all to dislike them and by the time the bass had to go back I absolutely hated them. First thing that goes if it ever comes back!
  15. Ha, I couldn't have a honeymoon because my company were haphazard at paying. I had it the next year instead (and they messed that up). I do however have wonderful memories of the day!
  16. I am really impressed at Jons voice, its still very good at his age and at no point does it feel compromised as it often does with older singers. Personally i could have done without the extended bass thing but I am sure it was good when you were there. I was going to see them at one point before I saw the price of the tickets. Having said that the last couple of times I saw yes it was free so maybe I am just a cheapskate!
  17. For anyone who does have the locking sockets (like anyone with the new EHB ibanezes), you can take the springs out and then they are just like normal sockets, but it means you can put them back to as they were before if you wanted when selling, and you dont' have to replace the socket.
  18. I think there is more to it than that. Not of hand on the sound, but obviously it played quite a lot like an ibanez SR
  19. Never really got the grabbyness, but always found them a bit unforgiving, so I never really got on with them.
  20. Nope, not had one of those, although I played it. Not sure if just a P pickup makes it more like a P. I have a Maruszczyk with a P pickup. Sounds a bit more like a jazz really. hahah - this is true, but I still have that bass!
  21. The one on the EHB was impossible to undo with one hand, so it involved picking the bass up and turning it round to disconnect. Meaning you stand a chance of bashing it on something. And what are you getting? If your bass is connected to a jack plug, sitting on a stand to an amp, and someone trips over the lead, which would you prefer, the jack plug to be pulled out or the bass to be dragged across the stage. Or maybe the cable to be ripped out of the back of the plug? If the cable is pulled out of the bass, you can just put it back in.
