  1. So someone upgraded an American P bass with a MiM neck?
  2. Hmm.. worth a try then. However, my main two gigging (hah - gigging!) basses have just had new strings, but maybe I will get some for the next time
  3. Thats good all the time it works. Anyway, given them a try so thanks for the heads up. I wanted to see what the black strings were like but they are too expensive here
  4. Yep, i have all that too. And certainly if you are one of the people who can be bothered to set that all up for a quick 2 minute noodle, that is a better idea. Its one of the ways I play things, but by the time I have set that lot up, I have lost some of the enthusiasm. I want a spark so I can plug in and play it. You cna make your own. It has what is in the Positive Grid amp apps, which is already pretty damn good. So you can make your own models.
  5. Yeh, I did that a few times then go a post office slush money claim on one, which ended up being very expensive strings, like £6 vat and £12 handling charge
  6. What I found in school when I was there (and hope it is different) is that often the teachers were teachers for a 'proper' subject, who had some free slots so had to do music as they had a record collection.
  7. One day I will get round to trying Elixirs, I get fed up with how quickly strings go dull but they are a lot of money to spend on something you don't know. I mean, I have bough new guitars cheaper than that!
  8. One of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353141464225 My wife bought one and it was just what I was looking for. It has an up / down (optionally left / right) button, a switch on the back to switch from apple / android, a USB socket to connect to a looper, and a usb power socket (lasts for weeks on batteries). But the USB socket was marked as 'looper pro' and although I bought them from different places and both ebay adverts show different footswitches / loopers, they did turn up in the same packaging with the same sort of paperwork, so I wondered if I connected them would it work. And it did.
  9. A bit tricky to answer. They could be exactly the same or completely different. If you want exactly the same, then it is probably better to get a fender. If you want something fender like but you have specific requirements, that is when they are useful. Mine is sort of Jazz shaped, but with 5 strings and a string spacing of 16.5mm. Fender don't do that, neither do they do the light weight, wood or finish options that mine has. So yes, looks sort of fender like, not really like a fender.
  10. Its got a big but and he cannot lie Sorry.. as you were..
  11. Works great and also the bluetooth page turner i got at the same time for £23 can be connected by USB and switches patches. not sure if I am going to use that but nice to have the functionality!
  12. I generally get them from whoever I am getting things from at the time. Sometimes I get them from shops if I happen to be near one, they are more expensive there but I don't mind that. Otherwise StringsDirect, G4M, Andertons, whoever. Richtone music sometimes are good. I don't use Amazon.
  13. Turned up today, looks great for £35. I will give it a try tonight!
  14. I agree, it certainly takes longer to go it, although also depends how catchy it is. So when it is new and uncatchy sometimes it abjectly refuses to go in. The band wanted to play some song by.. um.. someone I cant even remember that now, and I listened to it. It just won't go in. OK, its not very good anyway and I have no idea why anyone would want to listen to it let alone play it, but it just will not stick. BUt I can write it down and at least if I start on the right note i might remember it when it gets going eta: Kaspian, fire. I can write it all down, easy enough to figure out as I am going along.
  15. I would agree with that. When I listen to music at work, I am hearing it, and it is masking other noise. Listening to music is much more an active thing that requires attention. I also listen on random, which i the way I like it as background, but the older I get the more new music I am happy to listen to. When I was young it was much more restrictive.
  16. There is certainly something to the shape that is important. I can't really play a P. Well, I did for a year and when I switched to a J it was a huge boost in playing. But now I only play 5 strings. I generally thought it was the bridge size, so 16.5mm ibanez good, 17mm ok, 18 nope, 19 can't even find the strings any more, and something like a musicman (or any fender) is way out. BUt the dingwall has a huge neck and that was ok, althoguh very thin. Also the G&L has big old baseball bat for a neck and that was ok too. The other shuker I have at the moment? No chance. So who knows. As above, best is to try it although sometimes you just dont know, although not generally possible on line.
  17. Well, I would certainly love one of those. The steinberger strings seem pretty cheap (30 quid for a 5 string set), then there are the BassCentre ones, again sort of cheap, but I want to buy something from either andertons or Gak that is £79 and at £100 you get free shipping. If I have to buy string anyway, I can get them at the same time and get £5 off, but not much good if they don't fit. The strings on the B2V at the moment would make James Jamerson thing they are a bit dull..
  18. Steinway? I meant steinberger, not steinberg, they are the software company (who I suspect dont' make strings).
  19. My B2V needs new strings, and I know you can get those little clamps for it but thought I would treat it to some double ball ends. Seems the choices are limited. there are there Steinberger Guitars SST-111 sets that are pretty cheap and available but I read somewhere someone saying they only fitted the original steinbergers, not the hofner, but can't find anything to back that up (and guessing the original steinbergers probably wouldn't have been 5 strings)
  20. Until I get something to replace my voice live and work out what to do about my loop station, I dont' actually have room for the SY1 and it lives on its own!
  21. haha - no I haven't ventured into arp, I am mostly in the pads with the occasional lead. Not a question of wanting tap tempo, yes, it would be a great thing, just a question of not having room for the pedal on my board!
  22. I had a V necked telecaster, it had a very good neck (for a telecaster).
  23. Thats the behaviour I would expect from my testing. I was tempted to get one but then realised that I didn't need it
