  1. I do too, but there is no guarantee that it is the same tone. I didn't quote any names of bassists at all, so I think you are talking about someone else. I don't know who Mr Paul Jackson is, I just googled and he appears to be a consultant at sports and exersize medicine for a private health company. I am guessing he can probably afford a good bass then! And if a Squier can provide it to you at say $200, would that not be fantastic? I would get about 4000 different answers. Well, actually about 40 answers, then the thread would veer off into types of cheese, and whether one of the people on the forum was visiting their mother enough. Absolutely, you seem to believe your opinion on a sound or an instrument is something that can be described as a fact, rather than an opinion. In fact you still seem to believe there is such a thing as a fact about a sound or feeling. Round he we don't accept anything as a fact until you end the sentence with FACT. Its the rules.
  2. I had an ACG, it went for not much less than I bough it for, so it doesn't always have to be like that. That involves knowing what you want doesn't it? Sometimes you don't know what you want until you get something that isn't it. See I got my new shuker the other day and its string spacing at the neck is much wider than I am used to but it turns out that I like it. Had I been asked for my custom requirements, I wouldn't have said that. I only know what string spacing I liked at the bridge (ie, like the ibanez), and then made the assumption that if I liked that I must like the other end too. But you know if you are buying custom you will take a massive hit if you sell it, so if you think you would ever sell it, get something else* Whilst being aware that sometimes life gets in the way of what you need to do
  3. But not much good in the context of a looper that only plays wav files
  4. The guy who invented the stuff that AC is somehow copying left the company 50 years ago, leaving that company to carry on copying it, while he went to MusicMan and then G&L. Yes, I think paying $3800 on a fender is completely crazy, however, if someone has that money and wants to, that is entirely down to them, just the same as if there is something they see in these AC instruments. And I am not talking from knowledge here, I haven't played an AC bass. I have played a fender custom shop. Granted they don't seem original, although neither do the fenders. But that is because that appears to be what a lot of bass players (and guitarists) want. As to what they are able to yeild, as you also said you hadn't played that, you have no more idea than I do of telling if that is true or not. It seems that people are paying for these instruments with their own money, so I am guessing that it is capable of providing what they want. But you have already got a scope of mind of a fanboy-ism, in that you believe that paying for a fender custom shop is worth $3600, yet unable to accept that something you have no experience of made by someone else can't be better because it looks the same - ie, is unoriginal, when lets face it, the custom shop fender looks the same as the $200 squier.
  5. Indeed. So your opinion on it is largely conjecture, same as mine would be. Indeed, to me it seems crazy to spend that sort of money on a fender, but we all like different things. And I have actually played one of those.
  6. The hold doesn't do quite the same thing (you have to hold down the pedal for it to work, it doesn't toggle like the footswitch). Safe in that you can get them to make what you want, yes. You could just get an ordinary footswtich (like a one off) and just change it to be the ring rather than the tip
  7. I missed this bit. The mosky tap switch won't work, but they do a dual footswitch which is TRS which I suspect would work, and is probably worth a try at that price. Certainly if I was in the market for one that is what I would go for.
  8. And neither would this
  9. OK, so the definitive answer is: Shield to tip (which is all you would get on a 2 pole switch) toggles the hold function, which I note is sort of different to the hold function on the pedal, in that you press to hold and then press again to uphold. Shield to ring (ie, TRS cable) gives you the tap tempo, which goes from crazy to hardly moving. So a two switch footswitch that is momentary closed would give you all the functionality. Looking at the description of things that call themselves tap tempo buttons, such as the Harley benton one, that wouldn't work.
  10. Well, a quick look on the net shows the wiring of the boss FS switch, which isn't that involved. So any footswitch could be made to do the same thing with very little effort. As it is, I possess literally no foot switches for anything (oh, untrue, I guess I have a Yamaha piano pedal), but if you want definite proof, I can happily wire up a switch to something to see if I can make it work? I notice on ebay there are plenty of dual footswtiches for under £20, sure something like that either works out of the box or could be made to
  11. ok, whats that about? I presume the 6 and 7 wtc are some kind of conspiracy job, but what is the 14th amendment thing? Is that another conspiracy that I am not up on? as it covers citizenship I am guessing that is the nonresident thing.
  12. Oh yes, just found it. Any thread that starts with "You might wanna go grab a sandwich" has to be good! Thanks!
  13. Great, now I am going to have to spend half an hour searching!
  14. what is the weight on that? i loved the sound of my HB jazz and almost everything was perfect, I just didn't have a roadie to help me carry it to the stage. Maybe I need that roof support thing?
  15. I have never seen one, but if they are copies of fenders, how can the headstock not be ugly?
  16. The 4xxx series were the older prestige models. I didn't know they still did them. Shame they don't do more variation in the prestige, or that we don't get them. They did a fan fret prestige too. http://www.bassline.it/store/en/basses/2090-ibanez-srff-4505-prestige-sol.html
  17. Yeh, I guess it has to be the neck, that is the 'noticeable difference' between the 2605 and anything else, it has the crazy laminations. Not sure the frets bring much (although it does sound harsher). The 1605 is a very light bass compared to most, so lighter than the 2605 but not much, the 2605 is like a feather compared to the 5005 which is like an anchor compared to everything else I own. Ultimately, it is not a bad thing, none of them sound bad and I should be happy that they sound different.
  18. Congrats on your new bass day! Its just getting used to it isn't it. Remember you don't have to force yourself to use the other string, just before you know it you will find out certain things become easier, then one day you go to a gig and realise you can't remember how you play it on a 4. That is why I am getting rid of my 4s! I don't tend to use the EQ live unless I need to correct something, like if the building is over boomy I will turn the bass down a bit. It is versatile and functional, just not really that much of a fiddler.
  19. I bought one. Still waiting. I think I am going to be waiting for a while yet: But yes, I want something I can use for guitar or bass. Clearly it is good for guitar, but there are presets for bass, and if it is as good as AMP, which I am assuming it should be, it will be great.
  20. To be fair, that is normal for a Les Paul. I mean, is it even really a les paul until the headstock falls off? Thats what you pay extra for.
  21. Not something I use, I just use the pedal as is.
  22. Sure does: The SY-1 offers a numbers of ways to make your synth performances even more dynamic and expressive. Pressing and holding the pedal switch sustains the last-played synth sound, allowing you to jam with regular guitar over the top. You can also connect an external footswitch for tap tempo and octave-shift effects, or plug in an expression pedal for continuous Tone/Rate control. Oh I stick it in loads of things. I am not a 'blend in the mix' sort of player
  23. Took a while to find a strap for it, but think I have done it now!
  24. Looks at the shuker on the wall. Yep, its a road well trodden!
  25. Well, as long as you never give up, that is what matters So you went to a shop to get the cheapest budget Ibanez SR and then it turned out you wanted a SR premium? That worked out well then!
