  1. Its exactly the same thing on the bass as the sax. Ok, the register and purpose is the same but if you can hear the tonality as a sax player, the only thing stopping you doing the same on a bass is familiarity.
  2. I have been saying that to my band. TBH, I have practiced a lot and I am ready to play tomorrow if there was a gig, so it doesn't matter to me about practicing. Obviously not so easy for drummers or anyone who only practices when there is a group practice and takes half the practice learning their parts.
  3. Some people will pay the higher price, some won't, I guess the market will just be smaller here. Maybe we will just have to play music and not buy so much gear
  4. A bit silly to put prices up in a pandemic with loads of job losses, people selling a lot more. I sold my LT a while back for 575 which was good for me. If you want something, jus wait a bit, there is going to be a glut of things second hand.
  5. dunno, just one of the first ones I saw on eBay. Thats what I thought, it sounded like a good deal if it was any good.
  6. I did, he sounds great as always, he is one half of a great sound. But clearly people here like it and thats great, if something works and makes people happy thats all that matters, it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the original and seeing it done live.
  7. No, its £35 including shipping from London.
  8. This is true, the first hit is the worst. i now have a custom instrument that wasn't custom to me. In fact it wasn't custom to anyone, it was for a show. If it had been custom to me I would have made decisions on it that would have been different to what it has, which would be bad as it is perfect.
  9. ok, well at £35 worth a test I guess, even for someone that doesn't do much looping.
  10. Indeed, although bigger manufacturers will have a bit of an easier time getting stuff in because the costs in bulk rather than the costs of individual shipments. Similar to getting something direct from the states. Obviously everything will cost more, but some things will be just too much hassle.
  11. We can certainly agree on that one.
  12. Indeed - I think with additional import duties and the value of our currencies, those won't really be viable for us here any more.
  13. Tell me more about this. I have the looper on the HX (not that I use it live) and I have a jamman solo, but just for sample playback. What is so good about this? They seem cheap and small, which is a good thing as I don't have much room
  14. So John has sent me a new preamp for this and I fitted it last night, all appears to be working fine and so after a bit more testing I will be shipping this out. I got my new shuker: And frankly that is the only bass I want to play right now, so expect this to come back up this weekend!
  15. Another week gone past, still no more contact or anything happening. I think I probably need to start looking at what I need to do to get my credit card company to do a chargeback on them. I can honestly say I have never dealt with a big company that have been this bad at doing anything. Their prices are cheap but then I guess if you don't need to pay any staff to do customer support, your costs are low.
  16. My friend who has a ceilidh band have done a number of gigs at a local bandstand. They didn't ask anyone they just noticed it was empty and took their acoustic instruments and some battery amps and played in the park. They have done it 3 times now, noone moved them on. Not going to work for us though as a rock band
  17. It is a very good delay pedal though Yeh, but it can't do a big sky though can it?
  18. Supposed to be having a gig in a couple of weeks at a local football club. They certainly have the space and the guy who runs it is a 'character', but we shall see. Noone has mentioned money yet. There are many venues I would do a favour for, that isn't one of them!
  19. hahah - I meant 90215 but I always got that confused with my american zip code (odly, seeing as that was 94133!) But what do you mean dated? Still as relevant today, the story of a bunch of young teens at college where noone likes Shannen Doherty and noone questions why clearly one of the students should have left college a decade ago
  20. Understandable. For me it began a golden age. For me both Genesis without Gabriel and Gabriel without Genesis were better, so it was a win win. Had Gabriel stayed with genesis we wouldn't have had later genesis (which I like) and more importantly, Gabriels solo stuff which I think was hugely significant. What would the world have been like without Gabriel 3 (melt or security or whatever). I love the Yes version, that leaves me cold. I think the snarly roughness of the bass is a contrast to the sweetness of his voice, and without one it is just a bit too unbalanced.
  21. The lamb lies down on broadway is one of the few genesis albums I never got on with. no idea why, I think I heard it later and it just didn't stick in the same way other albums did - trick of the tail was the first 'prog' album I ever heard, I loved it and it is still my favourite. Apart from carpet crawlers I find it a bit forgettable. I would agree with fragile and Relayer, although I even like the later 80s stuff, 90210 was good.
  22. So thats what Awaken would sound like if you took the bass out and over processed it. Think I will stick with the Yes version.
  23. Yeh, mr shuker sent me a replacement preamp for a second hand shuker I bought.
  24. I dont' really know Steely Dan. They are one of my wifes favourites, but they always left me cold, so I didn't bother listening. I have listened a bit more now due the basses but they would never be a favourite. Its odd, some of their bass lines are quite involved, and some are just plodding along doing nothing.
  25. Well, to me not so, I thought his bass was a different colour. I just recognised him by the trousers. Some people you need a clue. I recognised Jamerson by the finger. Probably Jacos bass is quite distinctive Seems they missed a few tricks though as some of the other options they give you you could actually recognise by the bass, such as Les Claypool, Chris Squire, Nikki Sixx, etc.
