Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2020?
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Well, until I get gigging, this is what it looks like for testing (and until I get a cover for it). Apologies for the overhang for people who are triggered by that, but it actually fits better than the TC450, that doesn't clear the handle. There is actually a little cut in the tolex on the side, but if that is the price for shaving over £300 off the list price then I am happy with that. I suppose, yes, it is an 8 ohm so it is going to be lower powered into that. And like all things, your ears are a better sign of overload than figures. -

My smoothhound is my live gigging wireless, and much better than the cheap wireless I use in the house, but it is bolted to my pedalboard and uses power. The advantage of the little cheap things is they are just two plugs that plug in and don't need any other power or hardware. You can move round the house, change amp, change bass, and I can play with my battery amp. -

At the moment all the cabs are stashed away. It's against the TC450 or the CTM100. But I don't use the CTM often. Cabs are 2 x tc rs112s or the BC cab, which obviously create a little issue. The BC cab is 300:watt, the 112s are 200, both a bit underpowered for the ABM. Currently thinking that maybe selling the CTM and getting a barefaced twin of some kind might be good, but selling isn't a good time! -
I am similar, it wouldn't put me off buying one but handy to know ahead of time.

The ashdown looks pretty good, but having played round with it yesterday, it's not something that is that good to me at home, so I'm only going to known when I am gigging! -
I guess hey never got round to employing any more

Well, the initial delivery was fine - actually it was 2 days late but it was when everything was kicking off in the first lockdown so nothing was working right. It was then I notice the headstock was split, contacted them, they told me to take it back via hermes and there were no options. Dealing with them on a return is no fun. Other places I have returned to, Andertons and Gear4Music, sent someone around to pickup the item. I am happy with my replaced one in the end, but it took a really long time!
 -
you sure that wasn't the OP?
 -
Guessing he probably managed to work it out when the last post was posted 10 years ago 😂
 -
Yeh, they lost my EHB1505 when I sent it back. Well, I suppose to be fair it was Hermes, but they were no help
 -
Sure it will be fine, just a bit bitter of my couple of months dealing with them this year
 -
That would certainly be impressive if you could count on them delivering it
 -
	Thats one heavy towel!
 -
you can get cabinet corners that only protrude slightly on the front edge. I got something from ebay for something I was working on that wasn't anywhere near as far forward than that. I wouldn't want anything protruding that much, not because I would be worried about my fingers, just because I am not that tidy and that could catch on stuff.

I just use the Animoon cheepies (there are many with different names, but all looking the same), generic Chinese things. They weigh nothing, they are usb rechargeable, cost about £20. They are great for around the house. Or would be if I could remember where I put them! -
	Its a 4 only though.
 -
So where is the TB75 then? Would it kill them to do a 5 string one?
 -
Apparently now I look according to the internet, someone claimed they did have active pre-amps in them, but they also worked without a battery (which would of course make that first statement seem unlikely). Either way there is a wiring diagram for an active passive switch. https://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-many-guitars-so-little-time/1125565-modding-epiphone-thunderbird-pro.html I so wanted a 5 string thunderbird I am still interested in the Dingwall (but I would have to hear it first)
 -
That would work - they are Gibson T-Bird pickups, just coils of wire which go to a blend pot, then to a volume pot, then to a preamp which has bass and treble. They are not active pickups.
 -
Was a bit surprised when it turned up today: Luckily it was the right thing, I guess they just ran out of boxes so used a hofner bass box!
 -
I would love a Gibson Thunderbird V and spent ages looking for one, but sadly all I could find is that studio one, which to me (like with you and the Epi), it isn't a thunderbird. I don't know why they never did one, except well, gibson and basses.

Would add that today, Anytune have a 33% off on anytune pro for the desktop and iOs.

Can I damage my cab by playing too loud too low?
Woodinblack replied to ReeV0's topic in Amps and Cabs
Agreed it is easier to do with a signal an octave lower than the speaker was designed to handle. Maybe when TC made the RH750 and matching cab they thought that they might be used together? As I said, all of what you are saying is true for other amps and other speakers, and I have no questions on that. The RH750 has Active power management (that it is often slagged off for) which means it will never produce more than 35V (see attached) without clipping (as it peaks), and it has (according to talk bass where it was tested - I have no other sources) a 2nd order HPF starting at 70Hz at 12dB/Octave. It is incapable of producing a 'signal an octave lower than the speaker was designed to handle' as literally the speaker was designed to handle the output of the RH750. Add as a caveat to that, the HPF is only in the power amp, so if you take the output from the DI or the preamp out, and put that through an amp, then yes you really can damage it. I don't see there is much point adding anything else to this, although seeing as the TC RH amps are very common and most of the time paired with the RH cabs, I am obviously happy to see links to all the 'my amp broke my speaker' threads that must exit. To the OP, don't put any bass into any speaker, as apparently it is far too risky as none of them can handle it. tc450 stats.pdf -

Yes, I just checked, turned out the speaker is an 8 ohm, I was thinking it was a 4. So I doubt it can get over 200w. Sure, you can't guarantee anything, maybe there is a manufacturing defect, or maybe you are going to find its resonant frequency and leave it running for a few hours. If you are determined to do a thing you can probably do it. But as I said, it is not something I would worry about at all if it was equipment I had paid for. But you pays your money, you takes your choice.
