Moonmadness *is* their best album that is why, although Trick of the tail is genesis best album. They may, coincidentally be the first I heard too.

Recommendations for best cable to use with your bass?
Woodinblack replied to tvickey's topic in Accessories and Misc
I have one of those, except the right angle is red as it is a zero switch one. However, right angle sockets not so useful on Ibanez SRs! I think both of my regular backup giging ones (and practice ones) come from custom-lynx -
OK, now listened as a first run. Probably have to listen to it a few more times to get any of it to sink in. I like quite a lot of the music, and RW sounds good when talking, although his singing voice is very bad, and would be best not used. It would be good if he could get someone to do the singing for him (wonder if DG is available? ). You can see the threads running through from WYWH (not sure about animals, never could get on with that album so don't know it well), and some of it is very familiar (I think some of it may be too familiar). Overally, seems ok. Not really so depressing but can certainly see it as a final cut++ continuation. I suppose it depends on where you stand. If you see The Final Cut as a pink floyd album rather than a RW solo album (as many do) then yes, it is very floydy, and if they had continued in that lineup it is where they would have ended up. However, it is 40 years past the wall, and almost as far from final cut, It seems very stuck in that time, like not moved on much. I think floyd wouldn't have had as much success as they did in later years if they continued in this vein though.

I think meddle is probably my favourite too.

Is that the 'Is this the life we want?' album (at a brief browse?). I must admit to not having listened to any of his (their) solo stuff, so maybe I can put that on the list today too. Or am I just going to end up depressing myself?

I haven't heard it for ages. I will put it on tomorrows playlist. Trouble is I listen to music on random most of the time. Once it decided to follow "The Hero’s Return" with Totos "Hold the line". Its safe to say it made the lyrics a bit messed up in my head: When we came back from the war The banners and flags hung on everyone's door We danced and we sang in the street and the church bells rang But burning in my heart The memory smoulders on Of the gunner's dying words on the intercom... <pause> It's not in the way that you hold me It's not in the way you say you care

Not really, RW might be an derrière to work with but there is no doubt he is at least very talented with it.

Final cut being the album that he got full rights to as he thought it was his best. I like some of it, but not something I want to listen to very much.

The album after major commercial success
Woodinblack replied to ClassicVibes's topic in General Discussion
It was certified gold album after release. How is that not a major commercial success? OK, the later ones were more successful, but when that album came out it was pretty well on non stop play on most of the rock channels. It was the album that took them from a fringe metal group to mainstream rock play. And sold more than their last 4 albums. -

Yeh, when I have mentioned it on here I have heard tell of people who actually have had one that didn't break. Still putting it down to an urban legend though - I wouldn't take one as my only lead if I was going to my spare room to practice! -

Surely Master of puppets > justice for all? -

I love the look of the fender leads but would never gig one. Everyone I know personally who has gigged one has had it fail. They have a lifetime warrantee, the guitarist in my band is on his 3rd. I am only on my second as it doesn't leave the house. i am generally wireless but I use no name leads made with nuetrik zero switch plugs and van damm leads, in a variety of colours that I get off eBay. i do also have a whirlwind cable I knocked in 1994! -
No, but if you wanted flat pink, you would know where to go!
-
Hmm.. not a colour I would be expecting if someone described something as burgundy mist!

No sound - possible wiring issue
Woodinblack replied to robthehoople's topic in Repairs and Technical
Agreed on the pics, although first things to do, connect the pickup direct to a jack lead and see if anything is coming out at all, as if it isn't, no amount of wiring is going to help -
Kind of wish I had done an upgrade on mine, loved the bass, hated the sound. The nords (which I like) were too expensive for the bass. In hindsight, I should have also done the upgrade on the combustion.

I guess thats why they give you the choice. It makes me glad that I held out for the nord version, I wouldn't have been that happy with the barts, it would have gone the way of all my other non prestige bart'd ibanezes.
-
They do sound very deep

Oh look.. there is something I can't justify getting just at the moment

Not sure there are sides. You asked for advice, you got some, noone on here really cares what you use (none of the grown-ups anyway!), the only person it matters to is you. Frankly the more interesting question is what DAW you are going to use, and if you are going to use software instruments. Not sure what platform you are going for but if you end up with a mac, its well worth getting MainStage, its great value.

I develop windows software. I have both. Windows for developing software, Mac for everything else. Well, normally, this post is being written on a PC, as my mac is playing a version of 'I can't go for that' in Logic Pro X on the mac mini, that I am going to send to my group to give them a template for what we are working on.

Mine was 2000, and it was hard to find as they are dying out (or were even then)

I don't find it any tackier than any other logo. On the plus side the EHBs don't have any logo on their headstocks!
-
Well, that is a bit judgemental about the decor of his house

I have pretty well always have had both, in fact, bought a new(er) windows laptop this week - don't let anyone tell you they are cheap if you want something decent. I have done music on both and TBH, life is too short for me to do music on windows. I know, a lot of people use it and swear by it, and if you really love windows you probably won't get on with the mac that much so you are probably better off with windows. Don't rule out either a refurbed mac (available on the store, a few hundred quid off), or a second hand of a few years old,, my macbook is 2013 and I don't really have a pressing need to update it yet.
