  1. I don't know, ordered one from Andertons last year and they told me that there was a 7 month wait. So I cancelled the order! I prefered the look of the mini p pickups compared to the fender ones that just look hashed together
  2. Handy if you are close, for me that is 40 miles further than either bass direct* (where I have never been) or wunjos* in london (where I have) * i have bought things from both of those
  3. Well, you were probably not in the majority, most people have not been going to their local music shop for a long time. Unless you were lucky to live somewhere big, the chances of having anything in a local shop that was more interesting than a sunburst fender, the music shop hasnt been that interesting.
  4. I would say only suited to original artists. There are indeed, but in the large part, a lot of people want to listen to stuff they already know. I know a few groups that have originals and covers, and one group that started as an originals group, but also go out under a different name as a covers group. As the covers group they are booked up for all the big local events. sadly, this. Without established bands and cover bands to keep venues going I don't see there will be enough venue staying open to be there for original artists to be able to make a living.
  5. Oh you mean an inline output capacitor? yes, I was thinking of a parallel one. Yes, that could do it. Either way the thump is caused by a large DC offset on the output when not connected, so there is nothing bringing the output down such as a bleed resistor or something.
  6. Yes, as @AndyTravis said in another thread. strange thing is their website is still up and running with "bank holiday deals" and no mention of it?
  7. I believe the instrument thing, I bought a new bass the other day. But I can't see how there is any money in doing streaming gigs. I can believe that. I was going to get a subwoofer, but there isn't any point until I am gigging again. The bass is fine at home, I have enough amps for my room.
  8. well, there is an autoreply you can put on an email saying 'sorry, we are closed at the moment due to the pandemic, we will get back to you later'. Or someone could just answer they email, if it is their business and they want it working when they reopen.
  9. I would say almost certainly that is the one thing it couldn't be, there would be no pop in that case. its something to do with the part of the circuit that isn't connected gets to build up a charge, and when you switch that part in it discharges through the amplifier input. Something not grounding the output, so the opposite of a short
  10. Fully agree with that, I have spent leads of money dealing with people who can answer email, and saved myself quite a bit buy not doing business with people who couldn't.
  11. Maybe there is a reason for that if everyone says it. having played many quality bases, I have not seen this correlation that an expensive bass has to be better than a cheap bass. Some expensive basses have been dogs, some cheap basses have been gems. A Harley Benton jazz had the best playability and tone of any jazz I had played, after the neck was set up, only problem was it weighed a ton and was more than I could comfortably play (seriously it must have been 12lb or over or I would still have it)
  12. Yes the second from the left is my number 1 bass, the one that always gets played. the depth of the finish on the blue one is amazing although it is shiny so I am always paranoid about scratching it!
  13. We did a gig, it was short for us, just under 2 hours. We finished it and the landlord who was pretty drunk said if we did another half an hour we would get another £50, so we did it. When we did that, he came over and said if we did another half an hour we could have another £50 so we did that. Then he came over and said if we did another half an hour we could have another £100. But we were pretty knackered, as it was blisteringly hot, so we made do with the extra £25 each!
  14. No reason you would regret it. But you also don't know if you would have regretted something cheap. I have done over 80 gigs with a bass that cost less than £300, the rest with something a bit more expensive. Once you get past £300 you are just finessing what you want, which obviously you don't know. If you haven't played the bass before, getting something over £300 would seem a little mad to me, but obviously its your money.
  15. Get something cheap and rubbish, play it until it annoys you. Then buy something that gets rid of the thing that annoys you.
  16. Excelent.. so you won't be needing those 23" basses any more then?
  17. Odd statement. If someone views something as bland, picking some other groups that you think are 'blander' doesn't change whether the person is going to see them as less bland. "OMG, that guy killed two pensioners, hes a monster", "well, he didn't kill as many as Dr Shipman", "Oh no, you are right, he is obviously ok after all". I am about half way between the good / bland thing and I can see both sides. I mean they look good live, make some good songs and they are obviously very talented - I would love to be able to play half that well, but there is an element to them that is very 'soundtrack' - like music made for an advert or a demonstration. Very polished, very professional, maybe a bit soulless? I mean if you played some of it in a pub then quite a few people would wander off to the next pub to see if anyone was playing sex on fire.
  18. And the missing part of my order came this morning, thanks guys, you are really fast!
  19. We were learning that and a fight kicked off at a working mens club (the only one of 2 in the last 170 gigs). Well, not much of a fight, the guy was so drunk he could barely stand up and people were just getting out of his way. In the end the drummers 80 year old dad calmed him down, but we were learning saturday night, so we gigged it. Wasn't quite ready but it was appreciated!
  20. No, never played there But it seems pretty big compared to the half moon in stoke sub human
  21. THere aren't standard ones that fitted in the wider Ibanez holes, but they can make you them. They cost around £300 for a set.
  22. the strings on my 2605 are 6 months old, they don't sound anything like that. That sounds very much the difference between the Nords and the in house barts. That recording of the 1005 pickups sounds almost exactly like the barts on the 805ms I had, and the reason I don't have any more, as getting Nords that fitted that were just over £300. So yes, for me, especially as I want the burl anyway, the 1005 isn't enough of a saving to make it worth it. I do agree though that the neck is nice on the 1005, although I like wenge woods like panga panga anyway
  23. We play mainly pub gigs. Yes, there is hassle, loading out through a load of drunk people who are in your way (never really an issue going in), drunk people that want to join in and fall over your equipment, drunk people that get really stroppy that you won't play any oasis, drunk people spilling stuff over your equipment. So yes, drunk people in general (who I have never liked). Then there is the setup where you and the drummer carry loads of stuff in and set it up while the guitarist treats you to half an hour of pentatonic whiddling and stupid volume, while asking if we are ready for sound check, the breakdown where the guitarist gets his amp and goes and the singer goes to chat up people while you and the drummer break everything down. But I miss it a lot, I see the calendar reminding me of pub gigs that we aren't doing. The one in the pub that is too small and you keep hitting people with the bass, the ones where they are going to go mad for a couple of songs, the ones where they try to join in, and the ones where they just flat out ignore you, and I have missed every one. So yes, it very much is worth it.
