  1. Exactly how I use mine, I have 3 boards, 2 for my main group and one for my other group. Mostly it is 1, but there are 2 songs that use the second board.
  2. half price. But ebay often has a £1 weekend, so I just list things when that is on.
  3. Problem is that whole area is being gentrified really so you don't want downmarket things like musical instruments there where you can have big branches of fashion stores.
  4. Yeh, when we were kids (ie, late teens, early 20s) we used to go up to london and look at all the amazing shops and spend hours in the music / record shops. It hasn't been like that for a while. Last time we went up we wondered really why we were there, it is just basically just more of the same that you can get in any town. For me there is still wunjos, but hardly worth the trip to london considering the time it takes to get clean when you get back!
  5. I read back objectively and don't see it, but it doesn't matter. I think the OP is getting his issue sorted and I hope he can put it behind him and it won't affect his love of the bass. I love my maruszczyk, its one of my favourites (and my wifes favourite colour), but the QC issues I had with it still soured it a little.
  6. This. This would get an immediate F* right off, I paid 2k for this instrument, you can shove it with that attitude.
  7. In which case, as I have argued before, he should get someone else to do the public face then, as I have spent £2000 on custom instruments and had no idea of this as an issue and it wouldnt have occured to me to look into it. There is a difference between thinking 'I want nitro' because I like the way it ages and softens over time to, I want nitro and I am going to do research into the effects and drawback of a particular finish to the level required to do it myself. I have two nitro guitars, neither of them have cracks. But then frankly, if nitro is this bad, how come old time manufacturers like gibson ever managed to sell guitars before the internet? You walk into the store, there are 10 les pauls, I will have the new one with the crack please. There are - neither in this case are with the purchaser. And clearly in this case, you also believe that for every option that someone takes, they should have spent an hour on the internet researching the positives and negatives of the options. If you are the sort of person who does that research then yes, maybe that would seem obvious. If you have time looking into those issues, maybe that would be obvious. Some people buy something because they like the look of it. Can you belive if you go into the electric car thread, there is absolutely no discussion about the chemical composition of the batteries of the electric cars and people are spending 10 times the amount on that? idiots eh? I bet that would be obvious to someone manufacturing them. Yes, so andertons actually put some info on the web about it even though they don't manufacture it. However I think the phrase " Apart from the above, small cracks can appear in a nitro finish after several years too " implies that will be there from day one. Sorry, but you really are saying you must do this research before buying it and its your fault if you don't find info on it.
  8. Pah, you dream of playing the Nempnett Thrubwell circuit, following the greats like Acker Bilk
  9. I am not sure why should the purchaser have a concept of nitro finishes cracking on purchase? I didn't know this. The nitro finish is an option on the configurator, if you select it it doesn't appear to inform you that selecting that type of finish can produce cracks and blemishes from new, which obviously if that is the case it should. Or when you check out it should say 'note you have selected a nitro-celulous finish, this type of finish can arrive with cracks or imperfections' No, you *shouldn't* complain that John Lewis are awful, but they are responsible for getting it to you, so if it arrives broken that is their fault not yours, they didn't select the courier. If you did complain that they were awful, they would still replace it for you in a friendly and professional manner because that is the job of a supplier. As the husband of someone who runs and online business I have lost count of the number of abusive, downright rude, or passive agressive messages that get sent. Some people aren't nice, but you still need to reply politely, because that is customer service and that will get you far further than having a go.
  10. Maybe playing every fortnight is just too much and it has become too job like? Also I presume some places are better than others. Why not reduce the level of gigging and pick and choose the places you want to play, rather than doing the ones that are bad?
  11. Thats what I was thinking, when that came out everyone went out and got one. Then there was a rash of selling them, however most people still sold them for quite a bit, and as it was just before Br*xit, shortly afterwards people were selling them for quite a bit more. Still waiting for them to get down to geddy lee jazz prices, although that has been going up too.
  12. Although obviously some things get repeated in time, and you often miss something in the many pages a thread runs, but that was litterally the original post
  13. Just to be the one to ask the really dumb questions but.. why does the tone knob being stuck on stop you getting to the wiring? The tone pot is bolted to the scratchplate(*) so when you undo the screws holding the scratchplate to the bass, you can just turn the scratchplate over and there is the wiring. You don't need to take either pot off. Or am I missing something? * official BC determined term
  14. There is a difference. Playing is ok, but can't wait until it is safe to get back to gigging.
  15. True, I always thought the title of their song "Killed by death" was inspired.
  16. Its only when I look at an image like that I realise how little the P bass -> Stingray -> G&L L1000 progression changed. Happy NBD!
  17. I think that headstock is ok. I do hate fender headstocks on short scale things, it put me off the mustang. I am not normally a fan of fender headstocks anyway but on the smaller bodies they look ridiculously large. I think the only thing worse than a fender headstock on a short scale is an ibanez Talman headstock. And in grey, the whole thing looks very good. .
  18. I would but I don't have use for 4 strings
  19. If it doesn't sell I am not going to be too unhappy TBH, I am just justifying the Shuker, the more the credit card gets paid off, the less justification I need. Also having already sold two other basses, if another couple of cheap ones go, I will probably keep it. Yeh, the Shuker Uberhorn. Seriously in love with that thing, just walk past it and think wow, but as it is, it plays so well too.
  20. Going to update my 11 to: Shuker Uberhorn, Chapman stick railboard, Maruszczyk Elwood, Ibanez 5 string, Bose S1. TC450 with BC112.
  21. Heres the ones on my existing posted attachments! Currently waiting for the blue ones replacement to come back from bax! Ok, its for sale but I still have it OK, it will be for sale but I still have it! And this one (well, these two) are not going anywhere!
  22. To me they almost certainly are. Not talking about a spoon that is so cheap it falls apart when you try to use it, but a spoon that is basically functional as a spoon. A Stradivarius will not make you sound better than a £500 violin unless you are already very good. If I picked up a Strad and tried to play, I would sound terrible. If a great player picked up a cheaper violin they would sound great (well, not great because its a violin, but you know what I mean). The effect the player has is way over the effect of the instrument*. So I think the analogy holds up. *Noting that when they did a blind test, most leading violin players who didn't have a Stradivarius failed to pick it out from a high end modern one. https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn25371-pro-violinists-fail-to-spot-stradivarius-in-blind-test/
  23. Well done, the first step is admitting you have a problem
  24. Me too but have often had the advantage of being a custom bass second owner, you already know what it is like and it has taken the big hit But yeh, life is too short to hang on to something you are not playing. I have regretted selling things, but I am no worse from doing so, and if I still had them they would be sitting doing nothing
  25. Currently with the complaints from the band members in our second group because we are not yet ready to risk life and limb to stand practicing songs in the back of a pub (with no gigs yet planned), and after the hassle it was getting the group back together, I am not sure I can be bothered with it at all, it is rapidly getting beyond the level of aggravation I can put up with for something that is supposed to be fun.
