For me it is a pretty clear choice on that. To get the 1005ms and upgrade the pickups to nordstrands, it would take to at least the same price as the 1505ms, which considering that I still find that much better looking, makes it a no brainer for me.

Very impressed with the speed of delivery. Ordered 2 sets yesterday, one turned up today in a large box. No indication of when the others are turning up though?

I certainly wouldn't but then I wouldn't buy an RRP fender either. I have a Maruschyck which was probably the cost of an american jazz, but had features not available in one of those. I bought that accepting that if I had to sell it at any point, I wouldn't get as much money as if I had bought the american jazz. If the resale value of something is off less interest to you (ie, you are going to buy it, keep it for a long time / ever) then I see it as a valid choice if you like it. For me I don't see anything to raise it above being a fender, but beauty is in the eye and all, and if you want one and can afford it, get it. And obviously looks aren't everything, maybe they play really well?

Still won't cause a drain (but a good idea to replace it). Unless you haven't wired the switching part of the plug the right way, the drain has to be caused by the plug being on without a lead in it. If it works fine on the bench, then try it when it is in the body of the guitar, maybe the pressure of it being in causes it to short out by being squashed?

A loose wire in the 9v connector won't drain your battery though

Must admit to never being a fan of the One Slip thing, because I like the original a lot, and the replacement just sounds like a lot of notes. Still watch the video as I enjoy the chat! Hmm.. no, I guess I wasn't looking

It is 4ths all the way. I use it quite a bit but more as an extended bass, I am not sure it has the same appeal as an actual stick (although I am sure I actually play it more). I think at some point it might morph into a 12 string grand stick!

Oh I liked the album enough, its just they sounded nothing like it. Not sure what the classic lineup was, but these were both in 1987 (wasn't donnington 88? - was there in 86). They were bad but fun singles at the clubs!

Guns and Roses. I have never seen a band that hyped so bad. The first time I figured with the following they had it must have been a bad night. The second time I saw them they were worse.

The ones I play most are on hangers, the ones I don't play as much are in stands, the ones I am not going to play are in cases waiting for me to get the effort up to sell them. My house isnt as showroom as most of yours appears!

I had a a problem with a bass I just recently rewired which had a barrel jack. When I bought it I looked and thought, oh right, it has 3 terminals, that is a good one. I think it was labeled as switchcraft. Anyway, turned out that the socket wasn't a stereo one, it just for some reason had two shield terminals, which was of no use. In the end I got a stereo barrel connector which was good, but not as good looking. But it was for my wrongo, so not so much of an issue. So when you say it is fine on the bench, you get the sheild and mid terminal open circuit until you put a plug in, but that doesn't work in the bass?

I would make a guess it is a dpdt switch with the two centres in the middle and the directions at the top and bottom, but looking at the circuit should work it out

Not that much considering it is a full synth, a full guitar synth and an SY300 clone all in one box. OK, I am not rushing out to get one yet, but if you are in the actual guitar synth world (rather than a guitar synth stomp box), it is the first update since the GR-55, which is quite old (or the GI10 which was guitar only). The helix is funny. No it doesn't have anything like the FI or C4 (not that I have either of those to compare, but what I know of). It does have an actual waveform generation section, and TBH, I have no idea where they are going with that, or what use it is. Maybe because i hadn't played with it, but it doesn't seem like something I could use for anything. And genuinely I would like if it was, as I have synth footpedals, so it would save some space if the helix did it.

No! Never surrender territory! Seriously they are good fun, but they are not really a replacement for synths as such. I use one live, but I also have a synth pedalboard for pads and backing. Because they are not the same things. The G5 is a mono bass synth pedal, so it guesses the (single) pitch and tracks on it, applying effects. The same way the old single tracking octaver pedals did it (but not all octavers). As to the other 'actual synth' pedals, there is a lot more work to be done from that, as you can see that Roland / boss also sell the GR-55 which is an actual synth, for quite a bit more and a SY-1000 which incorporates an actual synth as well as this technology, which i like to think would give you the best of both worlds. If you do actual pitch detection, unlile the (lower) SY's (1 and 300) and the Korg etc, you can have a midi out and feed it to something else. Not really, no. But as previously mentioned, an analogue synth is no more real than a digital one, if the steps taken are the same, in the same way that a bass neck made of carbon fibre is no less a bass neck than one made of wood.

So more soft background pad stuff then in your face synths? The only problem with just the synth stuff like that is that you either play something for the synth then dance on the pedal and play the bass. And I have done that, its fun but there is the whole balance thing!

Just spent some quality time with it, it is doing exactly what it said, it is applying the effect to the entire signal. It doesn't do any signal separation, or tracking of any sort, it processes the original signal and triggers any envelope effects on the total signal. To do any different would involve pitch detection, which as mentioned, it definitely doesn't do. So if that is a problem, send it back

Just a mono tracking thing? Wouldn't be much good for me. The GR55 is pretty good tracking at higher notes and not too shabby on bass too, especially with pad sort of notes.

In which way would that not be polyphonic? You put two notes in, two notes are coming out, that is polyphonic.

OK, so pretty much what I said then? It is fairly apparent if you really listen to it. Now, if we were talking about the Boss SY-1000, then that is a whole new ballgame!

Because you are playing a polyphonic signal into it. So the effect happens to that. It isn't analysing your signal for pitch, just for dynamics. If it changes the pitch it is doing it in an effective analog way, rather than a pitch to note way such as a proper synth You will find if you change your bass sound it will affect the synth out. Just not that much because of the depth of the effect.
