UPDATE! Bax Music - anyone have any good experience with them?
Woodinblack replied to Carl G's topic in General Discussion
Well, I rang them today about the return of my ibanez. I have emailed them twice, neither of which have produced a response. They said they would send an email to the return department and they would ring me back. I am not watching the phone it has to be said. -
I have a big blade in a box upstairs which I have yet to use!
-
I use the rechargeables from lidl, never had any trouble.
-
I ordered my last nordy pickup through bestbassgear in the states, was cheaper and came in a week.
-
I think when he said stomp, he is reffering to the Line 6 HX Stomp.
-
I have my ibanez on here for cheaper than I have it on ebay.
-
I notice that the bass gallery put basses up on reverb but they are allways more expensive there, presumably to get their costs back.
-
To be honest the SRH500 probably has the same neck as the rest of them. The SRs are all basically built around those neck dimensions, I mean when you move to the more expensive ones you get multi laminate, titanium bars and better machineheads, but the dimensions are all the same and overall the feel is the same. Even the SRC6 has a familiar feel to it, closer to an SR bass than an SA or RG guitar neck. Having just bought the most expensive bass I have ever had, I know what you mean about the instrument rather than the music, but there is something when playing alone that inspires you with certain instruments. And yes, I wouldn't take it down the dog and duck, but I would take it to an open air event, or anywhere with a stage. When it comes down to it, my Ibanez 1605 is the one that always stays with me. Its good enough to have all the fancy stuff like the titanium, the nord pickups and the burl, cheap enough not to worry about and non shiney enough to not worry about scratching.

I would also say the barts in the 5005, the american ones are very good.

Im getting some delano pickups next week. Prepackaged in a bass, I will see what they are like then!

Re the big splits / big single. I recently got (and am waiting for a replacement for) my ibanez EHB1505 which had big splits. I have big singles in my SR1605 and 2605, and they were my favouritist pickups ever up until that point. I didn't actually realise the 1505 had big splits because they look exactly the same and sound very similar to the singles - ie, not the same, but no more noticable than the difference between sound of the 1605 and 2605 which are both the same pickups. THe only time I noticed is doing a back to back on sound and noticed that the 2605 was picking up noise from somewhere, most likely monitor noise, I posted on here that it was odd and someone pointed out they were splits rather than singles. So yes, they sound the same but have no noise. I would say I never really had an issue with noise in the first place, apart from getting to close to a valve amp that I rarely use, but with all other things being equal (i don't know prices / availablilty) I would pick the splits over the singles, but not be unhappy if I got the singles!
-
Or moving ones, that is good too.
-
They are ok, not quite as good as the big splits, which are now my favourite pickups. Obviously they are single coils and will pickup noise, but not excessively. I have to be aware if getting near my valve amp!
-
I generally have the opposite feel - I prefer that to the fender which always looked oversized.

I haven't replaced those pickups but I have replaced every bass I ever had with a licenced barolini. I honestly don't know why they licence them. I assumed Barts were just a rubbish brand, and it was only when I heard the barts on the 5005 that I realised what they could sound like. It doesn't them no favours. But I would agree, big splits or big singles all the way.
-
Yeh, but was it that lead or another one. Had you played your cards right you could have ended up with 2 leads and a damaged bass! Anyway, congrats on the SRH - I played one in PMT once and it seemed good but I wasn't that short of a few SRs at the time!

Why is Nickel plated steel so common on cheap strings?
Woodinblack replied to shoulderpet's topic in Accessories and Misc
No, not that level. The skin on the bottom of my lip got messed up because I tried playing a flute that wasn't silver - sadly not good enough to warant a silver one, and I can't wear rings unless they are silver. My original white gold one had a nickel content, that didn't go well. So I got a tungsten replacement, that didn't work either, so my wife bought me a cheap silver one (<£10) annoyed that I had lost the expensive one. I wore that for 10 years, until I got a stone one in new orleans. -
It was odd that they couldn't do better than that isn't it? Or an SR neck as they call it. The neck as it should be! Turns out I have a few of those (including my maruzchyk as that has a neck sized from the ibanezes).

Reverse the mods - not the tuners, that isn't really a mod, just an upgrade. Can you use the pickups on your mezzo?

I have a nickel allergy which means I can't wear most rings or jewelry or play a cheap flute (that was a painful one to work out), but never actually had a problem with nickel strings, I have no idea why. Well, If I have been playing a lot my fingertips go a bit black but I assumed that was something else, it certainly doesn't inflame them at all. -
Miserlou Why aren't we allowed to sing now?
-
That is actually just the way all pomplamouse songs are.

Same here. I had an eprom programmer in the loft for years, finaly gave it away about 10 years ago after not using it for 10 years. Wish I could do that wiht the rest of this stuff!
-
Same here, which is a shame bearing in mind how I wasn't that bothered about the original!
