Under The Covers or On Top?..
Woodinblack replied to Ted Theodore Logan, III's topic in General Discussion
That is one of the things I really hate, the "bank advertisation" of a song, basically taking a song and just playing it slowly while stripping all emotion out of it. it doesn't have to be like that, Placebos running up that hill is what can happen if it is done well - it still has feeling, because it has an awareness of what the lyrics are saying, not just repeating them slower. In fact if anything, it highlights the intensity of the lyrics -
Well, yes, it is a bit stick like when played like a stick. It has the advantage of being able to play both ways. it is a bit different but then my stick is a railboard, so it is all metal, whereas the NS is bamboo with rods.

Clearly not - I don't understand how anyone could get through that song! -
Under The Covers or On Top?..

I am not a great fan of the beatles, and I quite dislike Souxie, but I agree hers it is a better version. As for higher ground - I love both versions, I prefer playing the RHCP version, but don't mind listening to either. Although have a great difficulty not doing the RHCP ending whichever version I am playing! -

For me that is not only the worst cover ever recorded, but also the worst thing that Disturbed have ever done, and I like disturbed. it is beyond awful. -

Yeh, a lot of people make do with whatever is available, thats the good old british 'why fix it if it aint broke' spirit, the reason we have not much manufacturing any more, but if you are going to spend your own money on something, why not get something that is comfortable and you find appealing?
-
The problem I always find going through presets, there will be something you select that means you immediately have to play something - the one for me was that there was a 'Don't stop believing' patch. That was annoying!

Oh I love it just as an ideas pad thing, as well as how small it is at a practice. I am not short of controllers of all kinds though, such as the roli, linstrument, Ewi, my piano and an old m-audio midi-air, which is pretty handy.

The sound quality is great considering the size of the speakers isn't it? Headphones are good too. You can do it as I have a few, although the patches on mine have been pretty static for a while, so I haven't looked

PSA: B-Stock Ashdown Geezer head cheap at PMT
Woodinblack replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yeh, I saw that before and was really tempted, but too big for me -
See that would actually be less good. There are a lot of 5 octave things like that around, but they are nowhere near as good as the pick up and play, side of the sofa, top of the gigbag sort of thing that this is.

I now have a tray on my microphone stand with it. Considering the Reface range is getting on a bit now, it is a shame that they haven't made a reface plus, maybe something only a tiny bit larger, that contains all 4 of the refaces, because I would be all over that. The DX is certainly the versatile one, which is why I got it. I also got a cheap YC on ebay with the view to repairing it but it was too far gone, dead processor. The hardware in them is very similar, so it should be possible to make a multiple one. Also there were rumours of a Reface VL - but that never happened. Considering how rare the VL synths are (no, not the VL-Tone!), and expensive / old / unreliable to use now, that would have been a killer thing, although not that many VL1s (or VL7s) were bought (they were hugely expensive). A lot of people complained they were expensive for what they were, but didn't really look past the mini keys. You can get pretty well everything. Its very versatile. Although it only has 4 operators to the DX7s 6, its operators do more, so it works out very similar.

I love my DX (didn't see this thread before now), it is the perfect machine for carrying around, and the keyboard is fantastic, considering it is minikeys. I really wanted the Reface YC organ, as we were doing a lot of organ things, so I wandered into PMT to check it out*, and there was the whole reface range, the organ was great, but then when I got to the DX, wow. Also it was going through decent speakers and it was such a big sound, like a better DX - none of that hissy 14 bit DAC on the original DXs, this is crystal clear. Amazingly flexible. Not so bad to program, but you can also go to the yamaha website and just preview the patches and save what you want. I now use live to play several songs live. I now have a tray as the tape wasn't really working well! * due to PMTs idea of not putting prices on anything, I assumed they would be expensive there, so checked teh internet when I got home, and found out they were one of the cheapest. Shame really, had I known that I would have bought it there and then, but as it was I scored a nearly new sh one cheap.

I have done the first of those quite a bit, but not sure me playing it would tell you a lot except maybe I should practice more!

Does anyone have a Status Guy Pratt signature bass?
Woodinblack replied to police squad's topic in Bass Guitars
In black that would be great -
Yes, mostly have to. Its a long journey to go to any place where they have anything other than a couple of fenders. Also depends on what I am getting, some brands are pretty consistent so you know what it is going to be like, like my ibanezes, all bar one of which I have bought online. In fact, now I look around, all the basses I have here, apart from the 5005 and the 8 string were bought online (and they were actually bought online but picked up in person), and all the basses I saw in a shop and tried before I bought have been long sold.

Recommendations for best cable to use with your bass?
Woodinblack replied to tvickey's topic in Accessories and Misc
Mine arent daft colours. My bass cables are dark purple, my keyboard cables are red, my PA long xlrs are blue, and my general PA wiring cables are dark red (apart from the drum ones that are yellow) and my microphone cable is florescent orange. Everyone elses leads are black. Makes breaking down a lot faster, and probably setting up. -
Anyone familiar with using garage band and a USB desk?
Woodinblack replied to ubit's topic in General Discussion
That is fine, you just have to make sure your output isn't going back to your input, so either route your output to a different destination (like speakers) or ensure that none of your output is getting to your input, which has to be possible on the mixer (I assume, it is on the behringer). -

If you have feedback it means what feedback always means - your output is being routed back to your input. Get rid of the 'listen when playing' if your output is the same as your input and the device routes it back - obviously, I can't say, I don't know how your mixer does it, its fine on my X18 as I put 16 inputs to the input and keep the stereo USB output on other channels -

Firstly, Audacity does let you have as many tracks as you want, although it is not great at it. On the garage band front, it sounds much more like an input source issue. Assuming that your Peavey mixing desk actually outputs / inputs on USB (and I know nothing about peaveys), you have to tell the mac where the inputs and outputs come from, ie, which device. Under GarageBand->Preferences (menu), the second one across is 'Audio / Midi'. For it to work you have to have the input set to the peavey desk. It sounds like you have the output set to it (why you don't hear the output when it is plugged in). If you want the output through your speakers, you need to set the output to something else, such as 'Built in output'. Then when you have the input there, say 'New Tracks' from the track menu, one of the audio (mic or guitar), and under there it lists the inputs you have. Select one of those and it should appear in the track when you are playing. You can tick the 'I want to hear my instrument as I play and record' if you have it coming to a different output -
What's The Best Deal You've Ever Had?
Woodinblack replied to binky_bass's topic in General Discussion
Thats a bit unfair, I didn't, or do you mean the correct number of lashes for pointing out that someone posted in the wrong thread. In which case, what is the required number of lashes for someone pointing out that someone pointed out that someone posted in the wrong thread? Has to go up each level no? -

Was this intended for this thread, or the 'when will it be ok to start gigging again' thread? -
I can't imagine that would actually save you any money though. The wood they are charging thousands to add is only costing about £100, so maybe you could take the price from £2000 down to £1900 by supplying your own wood?
