Yes, exactly the same here. I paid €1430 for mine. If the question had been would you pay €1440 and not have spend an afternoon hoping that your friend who had a clue about woodwork would be able to get the remains of the strap lock screw without too much damage because you wanted to put strap locks on and didn't realise you weren't supposed to use a screwdriver on the screws as they were just decorative, I would say, yeh, sure! Seriously, it is a lovely instrument and that sort of thing puts a cloud over it. It wouldn't have happened on an ACG or similar, and my ACG was cheaper than that.

I always end up configuring a headless frog, but as they don't have multiscale and I have the ibbby ehb, not really much need to do that any more. Would still quite alike a multiscale version of the elwood L that I have.
-
The bridge is fine, the knobs are also fine, although I wouldn't really complain about the knobs anyway, if they are poor I can change them without a risk of damage to the bass!
-
I configured one almost exactly like that, but with a darker neck

Not sure about that, there are literally 10 screws on it, not sure there are big savings to be had there

What have you got against slap bass?
Woodinblack replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I don't. I think that is one of tropes that people drag out to justify why other people don't like things that maybe they do. It is perfectly possible to dislike a thing while still appreciating the skill required in performing the thing. Like recurring things, Jaco, Joe satriani, jazz, etc.. in a lot of cases skills that I would kill for doing something I wouldn't want to do. There is a lot of slap that is very skilled (although I would say not the majority), doesn't mean you have to hate the skill to hate the sound. -
Yeh, wasn't too impressed with that. Although cheaper then than now as I got it 3.5 years ago so I paid for half of it at the pre-brexit cost.
-
I was one mentioning the cheap screws. I didn't send mine back although I did talk to him about it. I replaced the broken screws myself anyway, I wouldn't have sent a bass back for that.
-
I would call that the normal position that most people have, so it would be hard for that to be heretical.
-
It is - but fairly typical. TBH, not so much bothered about the tools, can get those anywhere, but the manual would be handy. And if you are going to provide tools, say what they are for! It is small and very light. Today I was doing some practicing and my wife joined me for some singing, and she commented that the bass sounded a lot more "substantial" than the others.

I hadn't heard of them so listened to it on apple music. Really like it, if I had heard the track last plane out on its own, I would have assumed it was spocks beard.
-
Ah, I had missed that as they look exactly like the big singles. Probably explains the lack of noise pickup then, as that is litterally the purpose! And I assume it would have to make a slightly different sound as they are different. Certainly sounds good. I couldn't have gone for the barts. I think it is the ibanez way really, I have a few ibanez manuals around and none of them contain any real information, same manual for guitar and bass, so obviously they aren't going to do the model. Its a bit of a shame really, as making a manual isn't hard, especially when you have a range, like the SR range manual, the EHB range manual. Also, according to all the reviews, I could reduce the string spacing. Great, I would like to do that. So how does that work then? Oh, now I look I guess it is that screw at the top next to the string height that moves the string guide over.

NBD: RedSub Coliseum Fanned-fret / Multiscale 6-string
Woodinblack replied to therealting's topic in Bass Guitars
There is the original Combustions, although I couldn't go for that as I hated the sound of whatever they had. But a bit cheaper. I would certainly like to try another dingwall but couldn't buy one without trying it in person after the combusion. I assume they sound better, because people really seem to like them. BUt for a 6 which I have never successfully got on with, it would have to be cheap, and that is right in the redsub territory. However, think I need to move a few basses on first! I don't find them super skinny, I find them normal, so anything else is judged by that. The dingwall was certainly wide. The new EBH is pretty wide for me. -
What have you got against slap bass?

Sadly it is. Its something I am trying to correct at the moment. While recording I find that I am always slightly ahead of the beat, unintentionally, its only miliseconds but it shows. I guess live it doesn't matter as I use wireless and people on here complain about the latency - maybe it fixes my playing -
Variax Bass Electronics in a Non Variax Bass
Woodinblack replied to barlemniscate's topic in Bass Guitars
Because they are all idiots. Well, people use the wrong terms for everything, sometimes even the opposite thing and once you have been told a wrong term, its what you tend to use. I suppose you can validly call it a midi system, as if you want a midi out of a bass, it is a part of what you need to do it. Like a seat is actually part of a car system. -
NBD: RedSub Coliseum Fanned-fret / Multiscale 6-string
Woodinblack replied to therealting's topic in Bass Guitars
Hmm.. thats a shame. I would like a 6 string but I can't see me playing one much, so this seems like a good idea, I was looking at them the other day. However, a fat neck is a non starter. I would say there probably isn't 'an equivilent' dingwall, I am guessing it isn't that good. The closest equivilent would probably be the 1506 multiscale, but yes, its a lot more. -

Undoubtedly, but then you would expect the ibby to be good. This is a fraction of the price so if you are prepared to put the work in it seems like a good deal. -
Variax Bass Electronics in a Non Variax Bass
Woodinblack replied to barlemniscate's topic in Bass Guitars
Yeh, its a common way of mounting it on the stick, what with it having no front and all... http://stick.com/instruments/midi/ -
Agreed, they do. Its not the bass itself, I liked it and really quite fancied one (almost got one) but then I saw 3 together and it looked completely wrong that they looked so identical. You would be hard pressed to get more identical ordinary jazzes! Yeh, as I said I fancied one but it was more than I would pay for a fender and then the identikit thing put me off a bit, and then people started getting issues with new ones. Which is a shame, I love the colour and the general vibe of the bass.

Sometimes it is what people say. My wife absolutely destroys laptop keyboards, you can see the more common keys on her laptops because they have no letters any more. Her latest macbook (underlit) has survived better than most but it is still 2 years newer than mine. Mine looks like new, hers looks like a relic. I always assumed that is because basically women have acid for blood but maybe that is not true?

Artists whose music only sounds good when tampered with
Woodinblack replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I would say the remix is better, but still not a fan of either! -
Well, that sure is a very odd D, must be a bit floppy. But if you want something smaller than a 20p for a 36" scale your options are really someone like newtone or the like. If you want a 009 string for your high g, and your bridge is not through neck and your machine head is close to your bridge, a didario string is about 39" so it is long enough to reach in some cases (I had one on my stick, which is 34 + scale.
