  1. It absolutely is. My latest bass is the most expensive I have ever bought, previously something held by my Maruszczyk elwood. The thing that helped me to justify paying that much on the bass is not just that I fell in love with the bass (although I already did in 2017), but also the support I got from the luthier on a completely different bass that I got second hand on here, something that I would have had no issues if he couldn't help me with - he wasn't making anything from it, but he cared because it was one of his. And I know that if I had trouble with that bass, he would help with it. And there aren't any troubles, When you start customising the prices can go up a bit. The difference there is you get a bit more customisation. My Elwood has an Ibanez neck profile. I couldn't get that from an off the shelf jazz bass. However, as the costs go up you start getting closer to the other custom luthiers and then you do get more options. It is optional, mine doesn't have one of those, just a M logo.
  2. For the price difference you could probably get the Nordstrand pickups for it Good colour!
  3. Well, clearly not *everyone* is welcome, just that there are some people we can't stop coming
  4. Are those neck mute strap things any use? I have never used a mute, but there are probably some times where it would be easier than doing it with my hand
  5. I must admit I didn't know what they were until I googled, like Les Claypools bass. They look ok I guess, I don't get on with the curl at the top. Actually looking again, that is the brown ones, but there is a picture of Les Claypool with a black one and that looks very nice. I think they are some of the most beautiful basses going but then maybe thats because I haven't got a background in art and design? Not too keen on the pillowy guitar ones, but the long thin ones, the royas, raptors and jupiters, fantastic. I think though both of the manufacturers have the advantage that at least they are a NAFF* design * Not Another Fender - some words may have been removed.
  6. and of course, as a contrast...
  7. How do you get it to start up in any other mode? Mine always starts up in stomp mode. I assume it just started up how you shut it down My mistake, I was refering to the HX FX, but I assume it is similar
  8. Great, we will get baked peas instead
  9. I love those, and to be more honest, I love that someone is making those. I view it the same as high fashion anyway, like the clothes on a catwalk at a fashion show are not meant for general use, they are there to show ideas and directions as to the way fashions are going, they are there for the purpose of art itself. And Jens basses are the same. Although I would love one, I would look stupid playing it because I don't look good enough to pull it off, I am not the right model for the fashion
  10. Which model was the placenta? I guess they used a different name in production
  11. Obviously not, we all have our tastes. If I could ever afford a Ritter Roya I would get one, it is pretty well a dream bass for me. There is no bass made as beautiful as one of those But sadly out of my league!
  12. Its exactly the same thing on the bass as the sax. Ok, the register and purpose is the same but if you can hear the tonality as a sax player, the only thing stopping you doing the same on a bass is familiarity.
  13. I have been saying that to my band. TBH, I have practiced a lot and I am ready to play tomorrow if there was a gig, so it doesn't matter to me about practicing. Obviously not so easy for drummers or anyone who only practices when there is a group practice and takes half the practice learning their parts.
  14. Some people will pay the higher price, some won't, I guess the market will just be smaller here. Maybe we will just have to play music and not buy so much gear
  15. A bit silly to put prices up in a pandemic with loads of job losses, people selling a lot more. I sold my LT a while back for 575 which was good for me. If you want something, jus wait a bit, there is going to be a glut of things second hand.
  16. dunno, just one of the first ones I saw on eBay. Thats what I thought, it sounded like a good deal if it was any good.
  17. I did, he sounds great as always, he is one half of a great sound. But clearly people here like it and thats great, if something works and makes people happy thats all that matters, it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the original and seeing it done live.
  18. No, its £35 including shipping from London.
  19. This is true, the first hit is the worst. i now have a custom instrument that wasn't custom to me. In fact it wasn't custom to anyone, it was for a show. If it had been custom to me I would have made decisions on it that would have been different to what it has, which would be bad as it is perfect.
  20. ok, well at £35 worth a test I guess, even for someone that doesn't do much looping.
  21. Indeed, although bigger manufacturers will have a bit of an easier time getting stuff in because the costs in bulk rather than the costs of individual shipments. Similar to getting something direct from the states. Obviously everything will cost more, but some things will be just too much hassle.
  22. We can certainly agree on that one.
  23. Indeed - I think with additional import duties and the value of our currencies, those won't really be viable for us here any more.
  24. Tell me more about this. I have the looper on the HX (not that I use it live) and I have a jamman solo, but just for sample playback. What is so good about this? They seem cheap and small, which is a good thing as I don't have much room
