  1. Because wood is heavy, and enough wood so that things don't bend is heavier still. Techniques to make things lighter are more expensive
  2. That's not a plate. The budget SRs for some reason when you buy them have a plastic sheet underneath the knobs telling you what they do. You remove it once you have bought it, that one is obviously new it still has that sheet and the plastic on the pickups i assume they don't put it on the others as you are supposed to know what the knobs do when you spend a bit more!
  3. How about a 375, almost the same: https://reverb.com/item/23877519-ibanez-sr375el-awb
  4. No? https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/ibanez-sr305-left-handed-bass-guitar-weathered-black Ahh - I see none of the 305s left handed are current - you have to go up the model range for that
  5. Ah, well I get round that by just looking cool enough to start with
  6. Well, down to whether you want a 4 or a 5 I guess. Is there a reason you can't do that?
  7. I have one of those too, although it is one of those 'sentimental not going anywhere' basses, even though I rarely play it. I might have to get rid of my SR2605 though, as if I get the 1505, its almost the same colour and I really will need to cut down
  8. Still going to shiv you in your sleep one day!
  9. I have the other way round, I have the car set to kilometres per litre. I would prefer miles per litre, but sadly it doesn't do that (spanish I guess, don't care about us). Actually I would prefer the roads to be in kilometers, but that is never going to happen.
  10. Wow, there is a compliment But yes, does look good and hide a multitude of sins
  11. There are a couple of ska songs that are like this, if I concentrate on it they mess up. I guess at some point you always will!
  12. Not a bad idea, but more stuff to set up. Having said that it is rare we mix the drums, normally just outdoor things
  13. Used to irritate me but now I think, well if they can’t be bothered to research what they are buying, is it my job to stop them buying the wrong thing?
  14. Not so good on spares, 3 vocs, guitar/sax/bass 2x stereo keys and up to 5 for drums when they are used. Ooh, I could use the phono for keys...
  15. Well, that is what I was leaving it for. In my previous group before I got the XAIr, the guitarist had an acoustic, we don't have one in this group, and I don't have (and wouldn't be allowed) a double bass.
  16. But if there is anyone who actually wants the Classic IV, they would know simply by looking at the pictures that it is a bolt on, so it can't be a classic IV
  17. Does everyone use their Hi-Z inputs the same as all the others? For historic reasons, I have never used input one. On the XR16, the first input was labeled Hi-Z, so I thought I would leave that for an acoustic guitar or something (that never came along), and I guess I moved this practice when I went to the 18. Now after owning it for the best part of 3 years, I notice writing this post that both 1 and 2 on the 18s are labeled HiZ!
  18. True, I wouldn't have accepted it on a budget ibanez, but then I know it wouldn't have happened. It tarnished the bass for me for a while. Over time we made up though, and it is otherwise a lovely instrument!
  19. In all honestly, I would be happier paying more money in a smaller venue. You think by economies of scale, it should be cheaper in the O2 or another arena.
  20. The situation is that you have a repetitive bassline to-do, which involves some movement but in short loops (so not dacota or something), say a ska bassline or, quite often (in fact almost always) I get this in Billie Jean. In Billie Jeans case, your left* hands job is just to play the same 8 note run on just 4 notes, Gb Db E Gb E Db B Db, over an over again, until you get to the chorus for a little break, or the singer remembers its the end of the song. So you tell your hand to play that, and it goes off and does it. And then, the 357th time it has to do it, it decides to do something totally different for no readily apparent reason, or just completely forgets how to do it and completely throws you, because you are not really thinking about it anyway, by then you have normal gigging thoughts like 'you better not spill that pint on my pedalboard', 'did your parents really let you come out dressed like that?' and 'yes, your singing voice is lovely, why don't you start your own band'. I suppose that is why it happens, but it can be really offputting. Does anyone else get this? * other hands are available if you are built backwards
  21. So I think the overall answer here is: Schaller or Dunlop. Pick one and stick with it!
  22. Judging by the age of that photo, that was the cure to spanish flu!
  23. So very on topic https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/06/man-with-coronavirus-went-to-packed-rock-concert-at-new-zealand-arena I am sure Tool are ok here, but that is probably not good for the crowd
  24. I get that you do, you have been saying that. Just to me the music is a thing in its own right, outside of the creator of that music. Yes, I to would prefer to hear it done by the original artist assuming that they could do it ok, for sentimental and connection reasons, but I don't see it as 'theirs' - I see it as something made by them, that is the difference for me. And yes, you clearly see music differently, you seem to see it as something connected to an individual where I don't necessarily. Yet they are tied up intrinsically with their music? I saw them a few times and they were great a few times and dissapointing once. However, there is no way I would have paid to see the last tour as Geddy Lee could no longer sing the songs, and I couldn't have listened to it. Yes, I would prefer to hear rush doing rush songs rather than someone doing a bunch of covers, but I would have rather have not heard him doing the songs the way he was doing them at the end at all. Whereas someone doing a bad cover version rarely damages a song*, an original artist really can. I hope you enjoy genesis and you get something positive out of it. I really couldn't. *Apart from Zombie, by the cranberries being done in a montreal subway by someone who couldn't speak english.
  25. And repeat the previous 2 pages.
