  1. The more power and emotion thing was why I prefered the hacket version. Musical Box were certainly doing the authentic thing, they dressed and acted the same and had old instruments that undoubtedly were authentic, and I guess if I cared about that sort of thing, that would have swayed it for me. Just the music left me a bit cold.
  2. Welcome!
  3. Thanks for that, I hadn't seen the 6 string one. And now for some reason which has nothing to do with sense, it is quite compelling!
  4. Don't get me wrong, they weren't specifically bad or anything and I am sure they were a recreation of a band in the 70s, but it seemed like they were more trying to be a recreation of a thing than to really bring the music to life. I guess Steve Hackett has the advantage that he wasn't trying to be anything but does the music as well as he can. And let's face it, he probably has a lot more practice
  5. TBH, I saw musical box a couple of years ago and expected great things, as everyone raved and I wasn't blown away. Steve hacket was a lot better for me when I saw him so I probably wouldn't go again. My friend I was with really liked it though.
  6. Richard cheese has covered most things, pretty well! I think my favourite is down with the sickness
  7. If you say so. I guess like anything, if you are into that sort of stuff you might notice a difference. And as I said, sorry if I have offended someones group (or idol) - but it literally builds up a rage in me
  8. Well, yes I assumed someone liked that stuff, or they wouldn't use it for selling life insurance or holidays.
  9. That is the very epitome of my current rage against the music industry. Its music like that that makes me really angry and weep for music. People taking songs that were fine on their own and slowing them down and doing them in a soulful and meaningful way, and thus totally destroying the feeling in the song. Its normally bank or building society adverts to be fair, and there are a few who have actually managed to covey something, but that is a rarity. Sorry if it is anyones group, but no, that is a 'leaving the venue' song.
  10. Hasn't everyone covered that song. Is there anyone who has been in more than one cover band who hasn't done teenage kicks? In my book it is an average song of the period, neither great or bad, never was sure why it was so popular. This I agree with. There is a total ban on any oasis songs in my group. And do you know how much trouble that causes? The answer is, quite a lot. Still, it does mean that when drunk people want oasis at the end of the night the others can say 'we want to but he won't let us'. And I have had more than one drunk guy have a go at me about it.
  11. In that case I would get a cheap multieffects, like the B4-one or a MS60B, that way it isn't a big outlay and it gives you options to experiment to get the right sound.
  12. I can see the c# thing, but it is just a dip down rather than an actual note. Do you have anything effects wise? I would use a synth pedal (as I have one), or something in a helix, maybe even a cleaned up distortion
  13. Two tone for me but i suspect you will end up with an equal number of replies for either, so it wont help!
  14. I love the way they get the lowest string to bend in the middle, almost like a bad photoshop!
  15. Maybe it depends on your group. I was playing on friday and my battery died in my boss pedal that I hadn't plugged in. Trust me, everyone noticed!
  16. Good hack, now hand the keyboard back to Al, you are not fooling anyone!
  17. Oh I don't consider any sound difference, but some colours work!
  18. Same here. I have never actually had any problems, but it never hurts to change.
  19. I always cut them after bending. Although almost had an accident the other day of putting the wrong string on the wrong place, as it was a different make which called the string the wrong thing. Luckily there was enough room to get it where it needed to be. Just

  21. In general almost all my basses are dark wood - I would say rosewood, but some are panga panga, and one is ebony, but they are all basically dark, the darker the better (although probably not ebony any more), however, some basses / guitars just look better with maple fingerboards. I have a hankering for a buttercream jazz player bass (I have no idea why, it has 4 strings, I will play it twice and put it on a shelf never to be played again), but that would look bad with rosewood. I think for fender style instrument, once they reach a certain level of critical lightness, maple works. Oh I had a Squier CV precision that was maple but one of the really yellow ones, and I absolutely loved the colouring of that, it had a lovely neck. I guess what I am saying is some colour combinations just work.
  22. Interesting. I am not particularly after speaker models, as I have speakers, but worth taking a look to see if it brings anything to the party. Although I do have a helix LT as well now so I suppose I could use that. The HX is still the one on my board though
  23. It is. That is why I renewed my passport before the new one. I know, it makes no difference to my rights, I have still lost them all, but at least I can go through customs with a bit less embarrassment!
  24. ok, well, I don't want to assign malicious intent to something where none was meant, but the conversation seemed very bizarre He said To which you said I am not quite sure how you worked that logic out from that sentence, but still Do you genuinely believe that there is a logic to what you have said? If so how do you work it out? Not only is it not a quote, it makes really no sense. He didn't say that and he clearly didn't mean that. He clearly said that pretty much every policy which people believe was imposed on us by the evil EU is a policy that was created or approved by the UK government. At no point does that imply that the UK created all of these policies, or that noone other than the UK approved any policies or that the UK never makes policies that in its benifit. Just because strawberries are red, it doesn't mean that everything that is red is a strawberry.
  25. Not my argument, or my conversation but I am wondering, are you deliberately misreading and misquoting everything he has said, or do you have a problem understanding? It seemed pretty clear what he said the first time you misquoted him, now it seems you are actively trying to misunderstand.
