Also 5 string were expensive. In fact it was cheaper to buy the thing to use ordinary strings and a set of strings than a 5 string double ball end

Its a Chapman NS/Stick. A joint thing between Emmet Chapman and Ned Steinberger.

The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash - Now Sunday 19th September 2021
Woodinblack replied to scrumpymike's topic in Events
ok, might as well add myself to the list Attendance & Gear List: 1. @Frank Blank‘s No Longer Acoustic Corner - Rob Allen Mouse, ACG Harlot SC, ACG Recurve SS, Ibanez SRC6, QSC K12.2, Helix Stomp, HX Edit. 2. @rich’s Garden Of Delights - Shuker custom 5, Tanglewood acoustic 4, EBS Neo 2x12 & probable new amp (tbc) - both basses strung with nickel Elixirs. Possibly some FS stuff, details tbc once it hits the paid Marketplace. 3. @wrinkleygit, Jabba’s Semi Hollow Fretless, ‘72 Gibson EB0, SWR Working Mans 10 combo & 1x10 ext cab & a set of h’phones. Both basses strung with Labella flats 4. @scrumpymike Setting aside a bunch of FS stuff to give SW Bashers first shot and minimise packing and shipping work/costs. Unless cash flow dictates earlier sale, this will include: a couple of BF cabs (either SC Gen 3s or Two10s, to be decided); BF One10; Maruszczyk Elwood 30" scale; Spector Bantam if still unsold (already posted FS); Eden WT550 if still unsold (already posted FS); Ampeg PF800. 'Keepers' also on display will be: the other pair of BF cabs; my no. 1 gig bass 'Rascal Mervyn-Lyte; 'Rascal Lyte Mkll - provided I can decide what it's going to be in time for AndyJr to build it; my no 1 gig amp (Subway 800+); my old no 1 gig amp (Genzler Magellan 800). All of which will hopefully bring forward the day when Mrs Scrumpy can finally join her old man in retirement 😁 5. @Pea Turgh My Frankenstein Jazzguarman(!) strung with D’Addario XL Chrome flats. My black bitsa (same strings). Probably my Peterson combo which I’ll flit between selling and not selling (still). 6. @stevie Ibanex SR1200-VNF, Ashdown RM500, BCbass 112, plus some other bass cab developments (probably) 7. @yorks5stringer Gretsch Electromatic, Markbass CMD101 Micro Marcus Miller 8. @Andyjr1515 Not yet sure what I will be bringing except my athletic physique and chiselled good looks (and if you believe that.... ) 9.@stewblack Trace Elliot Rig of Death. Ric inspired 'tributes' various amps and basses for sale unless they shift here first. A hernia (probably). 10. @basstone For Sale refurbished Marshall DBS200 combo fitted with beyma 12" speaker. BC v3 cab with G&K MB500 amp. '78 Fender fretless jazz bass with rotosound nylon coated strings. Probably plus one other bass TBD 11.@woodinblack - Ibanez 5 string (not decided which), Chapman stick railboard, Chapman NS/Stick, Probably TC450, BC 112 Speaker. 12. -
Well, it does play like a 5 string with 3 smaller spaced guitar strings. Pretty interesting so far, you can actually play ordinary bass and chords on it at the same time. Think it might take a time to master!

Having looked into getting double ball ends for my Hohner B2V, I am happy to not have double ball ends!
-
They did and I would never disrespect them by playing one of their covers
-
Which is after the end of that group, exactly what the singer did. He said he only wanted to do his stuff in future. Thats fair enough. We used to be a combined covers / originals band and I guess it must have been depressing that when the originals were played, people went and sat down or went to the bar, and when the covers came on they all got up and danced. He has been on the local radio though saying about how unimaginative playing covers is. Fair enough, keep banging out those imaginative i-iv-v acoustic songs in 4-4 time.
-
I have played in both, and to be honest there was not much difference, as the 'originals' weren't actual original to me, they were just something the guitarist had come up with and frankly, they weren't very original! Obviously some originals would be great to be in if they were actually original. Original bands were certainly more common back when I was starting in the 80s, although again, not truly much originality, and pretty well all original bands I have seen do the occasional cover. Personally don't mind what I am in, as long as I am playing stuff and get to say how I play it.
-
OK, I didn't intend to get one of these, but they don't turn up often do they and I had the money I had aside for the Ibanez headless that isn't turning up fast. Turned up yesterday so early days - it is not much like the stick, but it does have the immediacy of being able to play it like a bass, so i will see how it goes!
-
Well, I hope they take longer to release now, with a new purchase it means I will have to sell something before I can get one!
-
I am the same. I am about 10 - 20 years older than the other members of the group and it makes a difference as I don't like the rubbishy old stuff that they want to play, blues and stuff.

New embassy (and also thunderbird) bass, Classic style!
Woodinblack replied to tommorichards's topic in Bass Guitars
ok, sorry if you read it that way. I am not a fan of fender necks. Well, fenders in general. -

Woodinblack replied to tommorichards's topic in Bass Guitars
Err.. yes, like me, exactly the point! -
The 805 is exactly the same size as every other standard SR series bass, so anything you want to get should be fine. The only thing that could be different is that the b string bridge piece is very close to the edge, but that shouldnt' cause an issue to something with padding on the bottom. When I had mine it just lived in whatever regular case I was using at the time - I think it was before my blake, so probably a thomman.

Yes, it has certainly put me off one of these. I think the thing about the Gibson's (and the last epiphone classic) is the size of the neck, so completely un-fender like, disappointing that they have made it chunky, although I guess not for a lot of people.. -
Probably not on her own piano any more though

Covers band players. Nail it or close enough?
Woodinblack replied to krispn's topic in General Discussion
Yes, similar here. If there is something iconic in the bassline, or well known I will copy that, or if it is something I really like I will too (and in fact if I really hate it), but in general it is a variation on a theme. What person from any original band plays the same thing all the time without adding or removing. I am there to bring life to the song and enjoy myself in the process, so I do whatever feels right. -
are they good with piano moving then?

I must admit I did feel bad for the movers - like they had one job to do and they were specialists at it. Some guy has to go back into work and explain to his boss that he broke a rare 150k piano. Wouldn't like to be having that conversation.

Noone is 'having a go' - just having a little humour. Yes we all get it is bad for her, Yeh, we got that. It has all the pedals. It was very pedally, the most pedaled one apparently. Great pedals. Not seeing too many people upset here

For me it is definitely a pleasure. Yes, I like gigging too, but if I wasn't gigging I would be playing anyway. i would move on basses that I don't play, and I do try to rotate the, so they all get bogged, but some have done a lot more than others
