  1. We did a gig, it was short for us, just under 2 hours. We finished it and the landlord who was pretty drunk said if we did another half an hour we would get another £50, so we did it. When we did that, he came over and said if we did another half an hour we could have another £50 so we did that. Then he came over and said if we did another half an hour we could have another £100. But we were pretty knackered, as it was blisteringly hot, so we made do with the extra £25 each!
  2. No reason you would regret it. But you also don't know if you would have regretted something cheap. I have done over 80 gigs with a bass that cost less than £300, the rest with something a bit more expensive. Once you get past £300 you are just finessing what you want, which obviously you don't know. If you haven't played the bass before, getting something over £300 would seem a little mad to me, but obviously its your money.
  3. Get something cheap and rubbish, play it until it annoys you. Then buy something that gets rid of the thing that annoys you.
  4. Excelent.. so you won't be needing those 23" basses any more then?
  5. Odd statement. If someone views something as bland, picking some other groups that you think are 'blander' doesn't change whether the person is going to see them as less bland. "OMG, that guy killed two pensioners, hes a monster", "well, he didn't kill as many as Dr Shipman", "Oh no, you are right, he is obviously ok after all". I am about half way between the good / bland thing and I can see both sides. I mean they look good live, make some good songs and they are obviously very talented - I would love to be able to play half that well, but there is an element to them that is very 'soundtrack' - like music made for an advert or a demonstration. Very polished, very professional, maybe a bit soulless? I mean if you played some of it in a pub then quite a few people would wander off to the next pub to see if anyone was playing sex on fire.
  6. And the missing part of my order came this morning, thanks guys, you are really fast!
  7. We were learning that and a fight kicked off at a working mens club (the only one of 2 in the last 170 gigs). Well, not much of a fight, the guy was so drunk he could barely stand up and people were just getting out of his way. In the end the drummers 80 year old dad calmed him down, but we were learning saturday night, so we gigged it. Wasn't quite ready but it was appreciated!
  8. No, never played there But it seems pretty big compared to the half moon in stoke sub human
  9. THere aren't standard ones that fitted in the wider Ibanez holes, but they can make you them. They cost around £300 for a set.
  10. the strings on my 2605 are 6 months old, they don't sound anything like that. That sounds very much the difference between the Nords and the in house barts. That recording of the 1005 pickups sounds almost exactly like the barts on the 805ms I had, and the reason I don't have any more, as getting Nords that fitted that were just over £300. So yes, for me, especially as I want the burl anyway, the 1005 isn't enough of a saving to make it worth it. I do agree though that the neck is nice on the 1005, although I like wenge woods like panga panga anyway
  11. We play mainly pub gigs. Yes, there is hassle, loading out through a load of drunk people who are in your way (never really an issue going in), drunk people that want to join in and fall over your equipment, drunk people that get really stroppy that you won't play any oasis, drunk people spilling stuff over your equipment. So yes, drunk people in general (who I have never liked). Then there is the setup where you and the drummer carry loads of stuff in and set it up while the guitarist treats you to half an hour of pentatonic whiddling and stupid volume, while asking if we are ready for sound check, the breakdown where the guitarist gets his amp and goes and the singer goes to chat up people while you and the drummer break everything down. But I miss it a lot, I see the calendar reminding me of pub gigs that we aren't doing. The one in the pub that is too small and you keep hitting people with the bass, the ones where they are going to go mad for a couple of songs, the ones where they try to join in, and the ones where they just flat out ignore you, and I have missed every one. So yes, it very much is worth it.
  12. For me it is a pretty clear choice on that. To get the 1005ms and upgrade the pickups to nordstrands, it would take to at least the same price as the 1505ms, which considering that I still find that much better looking, makes it a no brainer for me.
  13. Now updated to the latest os type bump!
  14. Very impressed with the speed of delivery. Ordered 2 sets yesterday, one turned up today in a large box. No indication of when the others are turning up though?
  15. I always though looked great even if I have no idea how you can play one! Looks immaculate and great price GLWS
  16. Couldn't really concentrate on the bass, the sax players hair kept distracting me!
  17. Well, yes for me too as I am shallow AF.. but some people, maybe not
  18. I certainly wouldn't but then I wouldn't buy an RRP fender either. I have a Maruschyck which was probably the cost of an american jazz, but had features not available in one of those. I bought that accepting that if I had to sell it at any point, I wouldn't get as much money as if I had bought the american jazz. If the resale value of something is off less interest to you (ie, you are going to buy it, keep it for a long time / ever) then I see it as a valid choice if you like it. For me I don't see anything to raise it above being a fender, but beauty is in the eye and all, and if you want one and can afford it, get it. And obviously looks aren't everything, maybe they play really well?
  19. Still won't cause a drain (but a good idea to replace it). Unless you haven't wired the switching part of the plug the right way, the drain has to be caused by the plug being on without a lead in it. If it works fine on the bench, then try it when it is in the body of the guitar, maybe the pressure of it being in causes it to short out by being squashed?
  20. A loose wire in the 9v connector won't drain your battery though
  21. Must admit to never being a fan of the One Slip thing, because I like the original a lot, and the replacement just sounds like a lot of notes. Still watch the video as I enjoy the chat! Hmm.. no, I guess I wasn't looking
  22. It is 4ths all the way. I use it quite a bit but more as an extended bass, I am not sure it has the same appeal as an actual stick (although I am sure I actually play it more). I think at some point it might morph into a 12 string grand stick!
  23. Oh I liked the album enough, its just they sounded nothing like it. Not sure what the classic lineup was, but these were both in 1987 (wasn't donnington 88? - was there in 86). They were bad but fun singles at the clubs!
  24. Guns and Roses. I have never seen a band that hyped so bad. The first time I figured with the following they had it must have been a bad night. The second time I saw them they were worse.
