    a shelf is like a treble or bass control, and is flat like a shelf after a certain point. a cut is a continuous slope after a certain point. So taking a low filter at 200 Hz for instance 12dB / Octave low cut: 0db @ 200Hz, -12dB @ 100hz, -24dB @ 50hz, -36db @ 25Hz etc. 12dB low shelf: 0dB @ 200Hz, -12dB @ 100Hz, -12dB @ 50, -12dB @ 25Hz etc.

    I would have gone for red on mine, like a darker red, but it was out of stock and I couldn't be arsed to wait! I finally got to try it at some sort of volume as I had a practice for the other group. Had a bit of a panic, I plugged it in and played and there was no sound but then i noticed the amp wasn't showing anything going in, for some reason it was a dodgy lead. It is so clear and bright, it was a great sound (even at a lower volume you could hear it much better). I realised I should have set up my older speakers too so I could see what the difference was. But I am pretty impressed.

    Which is the whole point of having your own group isn't it. I am not a fan of Nad but it doesn't make any difference, I am still going to see them anyway, so its not like he is losing out!

    Assuming that nothing is touching anything, I cant see that that itself would create much of an issue, although I wouldn't have done it myself. What blew up / smoked?

    Pretty much. There will always be a really small reading, nothing is ideal, plus some AC voltage might register with the general noise of being on, but any significant (ie, volts rather than fractions of millivolts) is going to melt a speaker eventually Well, I would but I was an electronic engineer for many years, so it might be a bit different! But yes, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

    The thing that will blow your speaker is a large DC offset which is just putting power into your speaker and burning it out. You can measure that. If it is a solid state amplifier, it doesn't need a speaker connected when you turn it on, so turn it on and measure the DC offset on the speaker terminals. There should be very little or none. Find a little rubbishy speaker - something from on old radio or something, and connect that, at low volume. Does it go bang? As said above, what was the mod and if you were surprised at how good it was, did it really need it?

    Mine too but would work for me better as a jazz. I do love the look of this though (and the sound).

    I haven't seen one (although since I have had one I haven't looked), although in a way a video of the sustain would be unexciting, because it literally does what you would expect. You press the button and whatever is playing when you press it carries on playing until you let go of the button. I find it rather handy for songs that hold a back chord, something like 20th Century boy, where there is a held chord but the bass can carry on playing.

    I gigged the aerodyne Jazz last night (odd as I don't normally play 4 strings). Everyone commented on how nice it looked but it seemed to lack something. Just played it back to back with the CV P, and it is really, the P has the clarity and depth the jazz is lacking. I am hoping some new strings fix this, otherwise its pickup time!

    On Squier CV bass, picked originally over a fender MiM bass (which was actually not much more expensive) because it sounded and played better, not because of some inferiority complex as some people would have you believe I have kept this bass for several years because it had sentimental value, but it has been sitting around unplayed for several years and that is a bit pointless. All my basses are regularly gigged apart from this one, that hasn't been gigged since my last group 4 years ago. Because of the sitting around it does have crackling volume control, I will take that apart and spray it to see if it makes a difference. The other thing that kept me not wanting to sell it is the look of the neck when playing it - it really is nicer looking than all the other fender styles I had apart from the flame maple on my Maruszczyk. Unfortunately the thing that stops me playing it is I could park a truck between the strings, and for someone who thinks that the 16.5mm string spacing on the ibanez is a bit agrophobic, the 19mm+ spacing on these is way too much for me. So in the end I decided to trade it for a jazz, and as no trades came up here, I bought a jazz and now have to sell this. I have the metal plate thing that gets in the way of the bridge in a box somewhere which I could add. I am currently lacking boxes as nothing I bought recently had one, so pickup is best for me, and any offers really depend on closeness. I can deliver or meet people within 30-40 miles of yeovil and I get to bath and bristol often, and maybe also exeter at weekends.

    Surprise birthday party last night at a cricket club. Slow start but crowd were happy and interactive. But the place was like a sauna! i took my new aerodyne jazz, a bit concerned as it was a 4 string and I don't generally play that, but mostly it was ok, as I practiced the ones I knew would cause me problems. The band thought it looked great. I thought the sound was a bit weak compared to the Ibanezs but it was ok, nice enough to play, missing string notwithstanding, although that arm bit isn't the most comfortable, it you know, fashion, you are suppose to suffer for it! Anyway, mother of birthday boy happy and wants to book us for her birthday

    I had one, same specs, using 400ma of pedals, lasted 5 hours in practice, died at 2 hours from fully charged one gig. Got sent back. Was a good idea, not trying that again!

    I wouldn't go for a 7 CD set, but a 1 CD best of would be good.

    The FX is very clear on stage as to what is on. There are a couple of times I have looked down because something sounded a bit off and noted that I still had an effect on that I wasn't aware of!

    Don't get many videos of people playing bass like that on a greco SG copy!

    It has a schaller 2000 bridge, so that gives a string spacing adjustable between 15.5mm to 20.25mm Which is nice, I could live with that spacing!

    I had a bit of a problem with the grill. First it had a bit of scarring on it, luckily just one side, so it doesn't show, and the minor marks on the front are covered. Second, the holes don't line up with the edge, so I couldn't get screws in one side, and they are right at the edge on the top. Seems pretty solid though.

    We just use google calendar, you can just knock up a free account and subscribe to it from anything. Yeh, I wouldn't be doing that. They want to be in a band or they don't, so either they leave or I leave, I can't be bothered to put up with that attitude, I would just go and find a band that wanted to play. There is enough hassle being in a band without that. I admire anyones patience if they put up with that more than once.
