  1. I had that for 5 or 6 years. Reducing cafine in the afternoon helped but didn't make it go away. We lived in a small village at the time and it was worse because you could hear every church bell chime through the night just to remind you how you weren't sleeping and how little time had passed. I tried a load of things, a few things made it better, quite a few things made it worse, such as cafine, computers in the evening, all that sort of stuff. Those calm pills helped sometimes. In the end it just switched off one day and I have slept like a log since, it was around the time I gave up smoking, I have no idea if it was related or not but I was very grateful either way. Hope you find something that works for you
  2. Now I look, jazz knobs are 34mm apart, so there is tons of room
  3. I would wire them up so you had two volumes stacked and a separate tone (like a jazz but stacked). Or just two volumes.
  4. Guessing one of these https://www.joyoeffectpedals.co.uk/joyo-zgp-guitar-effect-pedal-filter-isolated-output-power
  5. 2 pickup - gives a look of something different rather than just another slab bodied P
  6. Can;t you just bolt that part back in where it came from? Mine is a bit weak at that point too, but I always use it on an extension lead anyway.
  7. I am not a fan of the old telecaster style slab p basses (well, not even P basses in general), but that looks very nice - what is it?
  8. I don't know, not a huge fan of the triangles, but ship it at a reasonable price for a machine produced US bass (which I know isn't going to happen) and I would buy it.
  9. A great advance in engineering knowledge everywhere, and has been shown to everyone studying resonance since as the most dramatic effect, how a 40 mile an hour wind can take out a bridge (and kill a dog). I think the most amazing thing though, is not that it happened, but they were actually filming it at the time. I know they had a problem with the bridge anyway due to the vibration, but considering how few things were being filmed back in 1940 compared to now, the fact the filmed it was so lucky. If they hadn't, noone would know about the bridge today, it would just be another in the list of bridge collapses.
  10. Wish I had thought of that
  11. No, the original pickup went all the way round, then they changed it to be a bit like a normal pickup but kept the style so put a cover over the top. I don't mind that so much as you can take it off. I meant on the one with the triangle pickups, that had a nice bridge and the edges of the bass were rounded, I think they had done it well, even if maybe the triangle pickups aren't to my taste. I can see the point of the triangular pickups if it had the triangle inlays, but seems odd with dots (and I must say, I am not a fan of a ric with dots).
  12. All that time I didn’t realise the P had such a wide bridge when I posted in the other thread about swapping it, thought it was just the usual 19 that is too wide for me, obviously 20 is going to be bad. i will see what my bridge options are to take it closer to the good side of 19!
  13. Honestly not much of a fan of the pickups, but I wouldn’t criticise ric for actually experimenting on things, and that certainly looks a lot nicer to play than the normal ones
  14. First gig with my new group last night, freebee in a pub, weren’t expecting many people but turned out the place was heaving. Set up was good, got a good sound. Off we go in knock on wood. Sounds terrible, we stop, turns out despite it always working on practice, the keys player is playing in D, where we are playing in e, because he always uses a sheet of paper, but is now using his iPad which hadn’t got the right key. Skipped past that and everything worked. We all make the usual amount of mistakes but its ok. I can see a few problems for the future, but I am sure they can be fixed before it becomes an issue.
  15. Interesting idea. I think the headed version is less good from the point of view of the finished article, although understand what you mean about the bridges, it really does limit the choice, and you are right in that it flows well. I do like the new bottom lip though!
  16. No, its me and the drummer when it comes to breaking down. Some woman came up after the gig and asked where the signer was, I said, oh you won't find him here at the moment, we are packing up!
  17. Gigged it tonight, as well as one of my 5 strings. Still had to switch back for a few songs due to the lack of strings, but it sounds excelent and is so fun to play (apart from the switch, that stopped working on the bridge pickup until I shook it a lot). I think I will put a varitone in it though, the tone control is a bit like an on off switch.
  18. First of a 3 gig weekend (the weekend before a 4 gig weekend 🤨) Easy setup, and actually quite good as it wasn't as noisy as normal. Started, but something wasn't right and I couldn't get into it. When I put my IEMs on, I was playing my gretsch for the first time, and it sounded like it was out of tune with itself. Its really offputting, it was almost like it had a flanger on it or something (its passive). The next song when I sung backing, I realised that my voicelive had been switched to a random preset that had autotune on it, and as my iems are the bass and my mic, my mic was autotuning the sound of the bass! Having sorted that out it got a lot better. The cheap gretsch sounds brilliant and plays very well, apart from the switch which is pretty tragic (It originally didn't work with the back pickup, yesterday it stoppped working with the front - a lot of wiggling and it worked again). In the end we had a lot of shouts of encores, and people seemed happy. I broke down the lights and the pa and put everything back in bags while being told by another bandmember why it was good having 2 gigs on one day and it wasn't too much work 😡
  19. Maybe might just try one of the Js in a shop somewhere and see what they are like, it could be they aren't the same.
  20. Which may be a problem as he is playing for his family
  21. Thanks - handy stuff to know. I have had some turn up recently, should be able to make something out of this...
  22. 2 of my last 3 bands have been through joinmyband You have to weed through a lot, but it does work.
  23. The bass was fine from a B string point of view. In fact the bass was ok, I just didn't gell with it. It was a beautiful thing, but the neck profile wasn't right for me and the pickups weren't exciting. I would not have a problem having a 30" 5 string again.
