  1. Does yours have a noisy switch? I have never known one that loud (in fact one that made any noise). I know it isn't just mine as they mention it on the andertons video too. Seems an odd thing.
  2. It is good, I think it might get gigged at the weekend. Which will mean mistakes, as it has a string missing, but you can't have everything!
  3. I am not even sure why I got this idea, but I was looking into short scale basses and I came across this. A Gretsch, for £250. 30.5" scale, 2 pickup. Turned up today, I thought it would have to go back as I thought the rear pickup wasn't working, but turns out that the switch is so cheap, I had to flick it back and forwards until it started working (it actually squeaks). I think a quid or 2 might go on a new switch. That aside, it sounds great and the short scale is nice. Will set it up a bit later, but am very impressed at the price.
  4. They of course pick up vibrations in the body as they are attached to the body, and as the strings move relative to the body, it follows that the body moves relative to the strings - the combined relative movement between the strings and the body. It is a far smaller amount but it is there. Personally I believe the bigger effect is the effect of the body on the string vibration but you can't rule out anything
  5. Whilst not really wanting to get into the argument either way, as I can read both, there is a clear difference here in that there is only one key for any note on a piano, whereas there are only a few notes (the lowest / highest 4) on a guitar / bass where that is the case.
  6. Maybe it is designed to look like those 50s music videos where people had white instruments and it blew out the sensors on the camera?
  7. Cool, if a bit traditional with the strings. Am looking for maple with black blocks and binding. How was the ebay neck?
  8. Antigua finish is one of those things that should have been tried but never released. Every finish should be tried, and then some of them released, and some of them, such as antigua, the person who made it should have been slapped and told not to be so stupid.
  9. I remember they were very popular around here. to me it doesn't. A bit of a better quality here, a few better graphics and ease of use, seems like part of the same path to me. And the Voicelab I had before that, pretty much the same. I have the helix HX, fantastic for guitar, not necessarily blown away by it though. I guess for recording it is good, for gigging, not really much difference (not the stomp, I couldn't really gig that so easily due to the buttons). The only place it really does shine is the looper, having individual buttons for everything and it seems to really work well for that. If it wasn't for that I would probably put it back up for sale and stick with the B3 for live use, and for recording i have Bias Amp and Bias FX on the mac, which are fantastic.
  10. I was tempted by that as a stand alone pedal when I am not using my pedalboard, but I still have my B3.
  11. That would be interesting, although that listing says P neck, but certainly interested in a J neck just like that
  12. Looking for a jazz neck for my P bass, found this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202542172424 I think he has assembled it wrong. Shouldn't the strings go in the front?
  13. I must admit I hadn't thought of it, seems quite a lot of work on a common neck. I think if I can find a yellowed jazz neck it might be a good option.
  14. I am sure that may be true, but I had a VM Jazz before and it wasn't as good as the CV P. But then this CV P i picked over a mexican P fender, so maybe I just got lucky with this one. Obviously the other option is finding a neck but I think that is even less likely
  15. Probably a long shot this. I have a 70s Classic Vibe Squier P bass, the black one with the blocks. Original condition (I have the metal somewhere, took it off the first day). Lovely neck on it (to look at) great thing, problem is I can't play P basses, necks too big, uncomfortable shape. However, this P bass was bought for me by my mum so not selling it. Swapping it would be ok. So does anyone have a 70s Classic Vibe Jazz in black? Or I suppose a fender jazz, also in black. Not interested in going down the squier range below classic vibe.
  16. Similar in the south. Although my last group did 2 x 45 or 2 x 1hr, my current band generally does the 9/9:30 to 12:00 ish (often going on a bit) with a 15-25 minute break. There are a few places that dont pay well that we do a 2x1hr, our regular haunt does 9:15 -> just past 12. We do an outdoor afternoon gig, 3:00 to 6:00 with a 20 minute break.
  17. Why if it is factual? Its not saying they are good or bad, it is just something that happened.
  18. We had a gig a bit like that. A friend of 2 people in the band wanted a free gig, they said yes, and I said no, wasn’t doing a free gig for someone I didn’t know, was an awkward feeling for a while that I didn’t appreciate but not changing my mind on that. In the end me and the guitarist got paid, the others didn’t. The upshot was a clear “don’t ask this again”
  19. Dream of doing that. Doing 2 x 1hr set is known as 'a short gig' for us. And even then the singer would try and extend it a bit. They view it as a positive, I don't. Who the hell wants to watch a band for that long?
  20. Luckily I am not Ted Nugent, although 3 hours would be pushing it for a min playtime for us. Although we are managing to keep gigs down below 3 hours, with the setup time etc, that would be running out of power.
  21. Even by shabby chic standards (something I don't really like that much), that is pretty bad!
  22. On the premiums, yes, but not on the SRMS, which are the old barts. Or even on one of the other range.
  23. I would prefer the finish of the 4505 to the 805, my wife would prefer the 805 to the 4505. I would prefer both of the SRMS805 finishes to both (although I suspect my wife would still prefer the 805, although her favourite is my Maruszczyk and mine is the 2605)
