  1. No, hoses just don't last as long as they used to!
  2. I would say 2.5 hours to 3 is the standard here, although I have rarely paid for a rehearsal (directly!) and when I have it has been a tenner - and it better be a nice place for that! Or be different in some way. We save that for the gigs. Although to be fair, the guitarist never turns up drunk. Yep, sounds about right. ok - that is a new one on me!
  3. In the same village, it had a quaint little country school, so if you didn't leave for work before school time you couldn't move for 4x4s parked across the roads and driveways, the village was also only room for 1 car width in the main road, so that was often blocked, and you certainly didn't want to walk, that would have been lethal. Nothing more dangerous than a pack of middle class mums in land rovers who aren't paying any attention to anything.
  4. See now how can you take anyone seriously who says that?? In a village I lived in, yes, someone bought a house and then complained about the bells (although not sunday, wednesday bell ringing). Didn't get far, I think the answer was 'did you not notice that large church?'
  5. No, its cost. A place near a venue is going to be cheaper as it is near a venue. People buy the cheap house and then complain about the thing that made it cheap, get the thing closed down, nice house cheap!
  6. That doesn't seem uncommon for a lot of people. I think if mine gets to that point I will just sell it, as they are quite expensive things. Currently I am still in the learning if I can do anything with it stage. I noticed the one on ebay, don't see many of those and it seems all of my watches are still in place!
  7. Smoothhound here. All of my basses are active.
  8. Is there a noticable change in levels (assuming almost identical patches) switching between them when playing, like a click or something?
  9. Can you switch individual effects on or off with the big buttons? Clearly you can ddo it with the little red buttons, but if you are gigging and want to turn the chorus on or the echo, can you do that?
  10. Strangely enough, I just said to my wife how odd it was that all of the people of my generation got really old apart from us.
  11. To be fair, he is quite old now.
  12. Yes, I just finished watching that and the sound is great.
  13. Have a look on here for the thread on SBL where scott explains it. No, youre not!
  14. I hear this quite a lot. It seems that very few people stick with a stick, there are lots of "i usd to have one". So what made you get rid of your last ones?
  15. http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/GALLERY2/main.php?g2_itemId=3099 is there a wire to the bridge?
  16. It can if that connects to the metal. Either way it should connect to anything that needs earthing
  17. Ok, that is just an earth lead, so it goes on the biggest chunk of metal you can find. Ideally it has to connect to the bridge or the strings somehow, if not just tuck it out of the way in a screw so it doesn't touch anything, all it does is ground the electronics to stop a risk of buzzing
  18. Yes, it would be easy with a dual input preamp. Something designed that way would be good but you could take any old preamp, put 2 large input resistors in, increase the preamp gain to compensate, and bobs your auntie, you would have totally independent circuits. Most of the old fender (the man not the company) circuits pull be like that, grab one from a g&l or something
  19. Any chance of a picture, and where you say from the volume pot, which bit of the volume pot? The case, or one of the contacts?
  20. Oh that is impressive, yes, something like that solves most of the problems in that, yes, it doesn't have enough buttons but they are easier to add than the processing.
  21. I couldn't spot myself either, other than shades of other things, but it was funny, well written and not offensive so I liked it. And I do know a lot of people from those categories.
  22. What Rickenbarker? no, I think it is safe!
  23. Well, luckily they do. In the multi effects world, the age of a unit is as significant as the functionality. I mean I know everyone is mad keen on the helix now, but go back to the last generation and it isn't much difference, just the way it is laid out and the displays etc. Sound wise its probably not possible to tell. So in a few years old all this stuff will be 'old tech' so their sales will drop because it needs to be updated, so it will be and in 10 years time people will be on forums saying 'well, yeh, I remember when the helix came out and everything thought it was ok, seems so primitive now'. I have an HX Effects, which currently provides the base of all the effects that I need for the stick to be getting on with, but obviously not amp models. That isn't so much of a drawback at the moment, but it maybe a limit later. I am still seriously thinking about HX Native. TBH, I think that Bias Amp and effects actually would cover all my needs (and easier to use than helix), except for a lack of dual channel input. Blocks are a helix thing really - you just have a number of DSP processors each of which have a processing chain of what they can do in a given time, pretty much like any processor (like the frame rate in games). Line 6 have divided that into a series of blocks to make it easily understandable by people who don't understand technology (ie, guitarists). Not directly but it does have an impact. Obviously the more power you have the better quality you can get the effects, but you still have to program them in the first place. When it came to synths I was considering going for an SY-300 but not sure how well that would work. In my situation it might actually be a good option, or a VG-99 (or 88). The SY has the advantage that I could also use it for the bass, but again it is one extra thing to lug around and power.
  24. I must admit to knowing absolutely nothing about it. Will now have a look into it, cheers.
  25. I would like both the strap and the stand that this guy made: The strap is easy (except getting the hook thing), the stand might take a bit more work. So what sort of action do you have in mms, and it is consistent from the X to the 24th fret? The thing I am concerned about with the bridge is that it says if using bass reciprocal contact them for longer bridge pins, but I don't have shorter bridge pins and I am going from bass reciprocal to standard. I guess I will find out. There are certainly a lot of playing styles! Almost a confusing amount when you start, as none of the starting things tell you where the notes are in case it is in another tuning. I do find that starting up, some of the information that is available for other instruments - string height, string gauge, what the knobs on the pickup block do*, how flat the board should be etc is a bit hard to find. I know, low numbers of people but with so few people out there with one, I think there should be clearer info. I also don't know what you could do to improve a stick, but I bet some people do. I don't think a slide would work as is, because a slide needs pretty hard strings, otherwise you just bash off the frets. Like with a guitar, its hard to use a slide with light gauge strings, or very low action. Talking about slides though: * yes, I have found that now, but didn't for a while.
