  1. Looking for a jazz neck for my P bass, found this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202542172424 I think he has assembled it wrong. Shouldn't the strings go in the front?
  2. I must admit I hadn't thought of it, seems quite a lot of work on a common neck. I think if I can find a yellowed jazz neck it might be a good option.
  3. I am sure that may be true, but I had a VM Jazz before and it wasn't as good as the CV P. But then this CV P i picked over a mexican P fender, so maybe I just got lucky with this one. Obviously the other option is finding a neck but I think that is even less likely
  4. Probably a long shot this. I have a 70s Classic Vibe Squier P bass, the black one with the blocks. Original condition (I have the metal somewhere, took it off the first day). Lovely neck on it (to look at) great thing, problem is I can't play P basses, necks too big, uncomfortable shape. However, this P bass was bought for me by my mum so not selling it. Swapping it would be ok. So does anyone have a 70s Classic Vibe Jazz in black? Or I suppose a fender jazz, also in black. Not interested in going down the squier range below classic vibe.
  5. Similar in the south. Although my last group did 2 x 45 or 2 x 1hr, my current band generally does the 9/9:30 to 12:00 ish (often going on a bit) with a 15-25 minute break. There are a few places that dont pay well that we do a 2x1hr, our regular haunt does 9:15 -> just past 12. We do an outdoor afternoon gig, 3:00 to 6:00 with a 20 minute break.

  7. We had a gig a bit like that. A friend of 2 people in the band wanted a free gig, they said yes, and I said no, wasn’t doing a free gig for someone I didn’t know, was an awkward feeling for a while that I didn’t appreciate but not changing my mind on that. In the end me and the guitarist got paid, the others didn’t. The upshot was a clear “don’t ask this again”
  8. Dream of doing that. Doing 2 x 1hr set is known as 'a short gig' for us. And even then the singer would try and extend it a bit. They view it as a positive, I don't. Who the hell wants to watch a band for that long?
  9. Luckily I am not Ted Nugent, although 3 hours would be pushing it for a min playtime for us. Although we are managing to keep gigs down below 3 hours, with the setup time etc, that would be running out of power.

  11. On the premiums, yes, but not on the SRMS, which are the old barts. Or even on one of the other range.
  12. I would prefer the finish of the 4505 to the 805, my wife would prefer the 805 to the 4505. I would prefer both of the SRMS805 finishes to both (although I suspect my wife would still prefer the 805, although her favourite is my Maruszczyk and mine is the 2605)
  13. The P part of that set is the same as the P that I have just bought and I am very impressed with it, so I would imagine the J part would be just as good. I might have got them for my Maruszczyk but I have a double J pickup on that.
  14. Sadly it has to be a hearing thing, I need to hear one and see how it responds. I have had several people tell me their combustion sounded fine, and maybe it did to them. But I can't believe that the other dingwalls sound the same. Yeh, I wasn't that keen on the finish of the SRFF805, although my wife liked it. I also thought it was a little rough in places, especially the nut and headstock, but maybe because it was the first of its type. That SRMS looks a lot better finish and with something a bit more lively in the engine room it would be killer.

  17. There was no typo in my sentence, was there a typo in your reading? I didn't say 'My' You wouldn't find it that bemusing if you have a look back at my comments about the combustion before. I sold my combustion, I liked everything about the combustion but the output was worse than lifeless. I almost lost an audition because I took my dingwall, ie, the group asked me after a few songs if I had another bass, luckily I took the hohner B2 which I played, which they liked and I got the gig. With the standard pickups whatever they were in that. I couldn't say bad enough things about it. But nordstrand do replacement pickups for them.
  18. Mr nord is quite approachable with these things. There was a discussion on here somewhere about it. Oh looking through messages we had a discussion about this in the beginning of jan 2018! A cheap way of getting a dingwall is to get a combustion, which s/h is probably less than 1k (at least I sold mine less than that). They are remarkably different - the 805 is very much like all the other SRs with a slight bend to the frets, it isn't that noticable. The dingwall has a very very different neck and the scale is also very different (especially as it goes a lot longer). It plays very different. TBH, I would like to go the other way. Get another dingwall and put a nord on that to get a decent sound out of it. I might be happier with that. I would say though that if a 805 came up in that finish cheap enough to make it worth sticking a nord on, I would be pretty tempted.
  19. I am the same on those, I got rid of my 805 because of the pickups. It was £300 for a set of nords for an 805 as a custom order, if they had been cheaper I would have kept it.
  20. I have a smoothhound. I have rarely had any problem with it (and when I have it was power supply related), but one of the things I am not keen is connecting it to the bass. It does seem to have a dodgy hinge these days, but it is connected always by a little cable which has to be tied somewhere, so it is a bit of a faff if I want to change bass. Do the little boss things fit in an ibanez? The smoothhound will not really fit in one, well, it sort of will but sticks out and presses against the wood making marks. If the boss thing goes in then I will probably go for having both.

  22. I just use the X18 live, which has Midas inputs. Does the job for me. Wouldn't want to go back to a normal mixer.
  23. Frankly high quality opamps are about the cheapest, because they are the most commonly made. The cost difference for components between a high quality circuit and a low quality one is pennies.

  25. I quit the course yesterday. The guy can do amazing things but I couldn't really understand where he was coming from and TBH, if I had, it might be interesting that I could use a cm7 pentatonic when someone asked me to solo over a VI-II-V key-change but that is absolutely never going to happen. I don't have the knowledge to get much out of it, or the desire to get the things that it is going to give me. I suppose in hindsight it is a bit of a silly course for me to take, as there is no way I would be interested in listening to a track that he was playing on anyway. But props to SBL for having a cancellation thing.
