  1. Good? Good? Pfft.. I would be happy with one that had some form of timing!
  2. No hate from any of my basses (guitars a different matter!), but the Dingwall got moved on quickly as although I loved the neck I couldn't get a sound I liked out of it, and the ACG got moved on as I loved the sound but didn't like the neck (it was actually a heavy necked one for the reason it was made). There have been a few others that moved on because they were fairly nothingy, Ibanez BTB, various fenders, and a few that moved on because I hated the neck. I think the current spector will get moved on because of the neck soon.
  3. My 1605 was very neck heavy when i got it as the spalted poplar is pretty light (and they have the same neck on all of them). I got a set of ultralights as I had just got an Elwood with them on (as recommended by Maruszczyk) and it stopped the problem. Still have it, still my favourite. The 5005 has the same sort of neck (almost), but luckily being made with a wenge top has a lot more gravity on the bottom!
  4. Yeh. but it is custom built with not one, but TWO capacitors!
  5. My arm and knee hurt, luckily the fingers are fine!
  6. Thats probably why they never interviewed him.
  7. The preamp shouldn't define the sound of the bass unless it is defective. With a perfect preamp should sound identical between passive and active going through a very short cable to a high impedance amplifier. Obviously it won't sound the same because you don't generally use a really short cable or a perfect high impedance amplifier (although a valve preamp is often better for this). Most people use a cable that is quite long, so there are capacitive and resistant losses in the cable, giving a softer tone which is what I think people often define as a passive sound. However, you can turn bass and treble up on the preamp, but that shouldn't change the sound. Pickups on the other hand do make a fair bit of a difference. But then they don't have to cost the earth, although the nords are nice.
  8. None of the 1xxx or 2xxx have 3v circuitry, that was only used on the 5000-5006. The premiums all currently have 9v preamp, bass / mid / treble and a 2 or 3 band mid frequency switch. The 3v was on the 5000/4/5 which had bass/mid/mid freq/treble, but I have replaced the preamp with a glockenclang as treble didn't work (as it often didn't). Its a good upgrade. The premiums are basically the all same, mahogany bodies with a cap of something else, which makes the model, mostly all available in 4/5/6 string. I would love a 2605 but it doesn't really give me much over the 1605 (or 5005), and I wouldn't get rid of that and I am trying to cut down!
  9. No. I don't like wings, although I can't say I am a fan of the beatles either. Trick of the Tail though is one of my favourite albums every, of any group. Some of the earlier genesis albums are ok, but not lamb lies down, never could get into that. However, the first gabriel albums have moments of sheer genius.
  10. I like most of them for various reasons, well, if you ignore the 90s on, until maybe more recently obviously, but that goes without saying. But which one is my favourite really depends on if I am in a Permanent Waves / Moving Pictures, or Signals -> Power Windows sort of mood. Was never that keen on Hold your fire, even though I enjoyed the gig. It was the last album from moving pictures onwards that I bought on release day.
  11. I would only accept paypal if I was shipping the item to someone to have proof it was sold, paypal on collection just means you could claim that they never sent it to you, there is no proof you got it but proof that it was paid for, so it seems odd he would want it that way. But I would always be more than happy to have cash on collection, that is the best payment option method for me.
  12. I guess it is the exchange rate that we have now but that is very expensive
  13. Yep, the whole immediacy of having an instrument there. For years I had a lot of keyboards around, but never played them because of the effort to set stuff up. Now I go into my room, press 1 on the power button and all my keyboards / mixer / amp comes to life. I press a key on something, it makes sound. With the bass, theres some upstairs, theres some downstairs. Some advert comes on the telly, I will grab a bass and play along to the advert, just because, well, it is what I do. There is a guitar there too, just in case. And a flute. And a AKAI wind instrument. All just ready for inspiration.
  14. I love post Gabriel Genesis. Although some of their stuff before that was ok, I can listen to it, Collins Genesis would feature as one of my all time favourite bands. And strangely, Gabriel solo work would feature as some of my favourite 'solo' artist. For me, Gabriel leaving Genesis was one of the best things that happened in music, they both became so much better afterwards.
  15. Any bass of mine in a case doesn't get played. If it doesn't get played it gets sold. Therefore if I put a bass in a case it means that it is going to end up sold! Sometimes I will pick up a bass and play it for a minute and put it back because I have an idea I thought about - if there was a case in the way that would stop that. I guess it works for people in tidy or big houses, I have neither!
  16. Although I probably wouldn't (and I would love one of those), I don't see that you wouldn't be able to use a hanger if you could find one wide enough
  17. Go for Geek99s idea - nail it to a piece of wood and screw that to the wall
  18. Sorry Although if you do want one, there is £60 off them if bought before 25th December, which is why i got my roli this week
  19. Can you not get a cheap one and hack it around to get round the nerve issue?
  20. It absolutely would work, yes, and maybe I would do something like that. I am just saying I don't recommend anyone else did. Except I would probably use crimps and maybe heatshrink
  21. I assumed they messed up the pickup cutout so did that to hide it?
  22. you would be surprised, the difference between 25 and 37 is more than it sounds. 25 is ok for short basslines, but the problem is you have basically 2 octaves if you are in c. with 37 you have 2 octaves in any key, so you don't get that bit where you run out of notes often. I would agree the launchkeys look good. I have a Axiom 61, and a mid-air 25, but I don't really use either of them, I tend to use what is already up, so the piano or the DS61 keyboard. Or my new Roli 49. I recommend that heartily as the best keyboard I have ever used. It almost fits the criteria of what you want, apart from the pads, the keys and the 'not breaking the bank' part
  23. Just strip a mains cable back, wrap the blue and brown wire round a pin each and slap some insulating tape over it, jobs a goodun' Note: I am not really recommending this!
