If all you want to do is play bass and lead lines, the bassstation is good (I have one). If you want to do chords, then obviously not (I also have a roland DI61 and blofeld). When I play live I use an iPad connected to a mcmillen 12 step, where I play chords (with my feet) for backing stuff), and sometime use my Yamaha Reface DX to play other lines on when we need keys. For bass, I always use a bass though, and if I want a synth bass, I use a bass with a synth pedal. If you have an iPad already, then what would give you the most flexability at the cheapest cost is a cheap master keyboard (and it can be small, the bassstation doesn't have many keys) and connect that to the iPad (they almost all have USB as well as midi, and they will connect with the apple USB connector). something like the G4M one: https://www.gear4music.com/Keyboards-and-Pianos/SubZero-CommandKey25-Universal-MIDI-Controller/221X means you can connect to something like the Moog Model D app (or model 15 if you are feeling brave), which gives you the same sounds you would get from a real model D, but 2.5k cheaper. That will give the biggest scope of what you can play and maybe that will let you know which way you want to go.

Yeh - I had a GR55 with a GK3B bass too, be interesting what this does, although probably a long way from considering one yet
-
I got two bands through JMB
-
The GP-10 doesn't work on the bass - ie, not just badly, it filters out frequencies of the low strings.
-
It uses both a GK3 and the signal input of the sy1/300, and I would call that a bonus, so it is a full synth, not just a signal processor like the other SYs.
-
Well, it had to be coming, after the SY-1 made the more expensive things look bad value, and with the GR-55 being pretty old now, there had to be something for the GK13 people. And this looks like both a SY/GR combined, which is the obvious next choice. And yes, the promo video shows that it is very much designed for both markets (which they overlooked with the GR-10). Well, as you know, my lifes goal is to cost you money It is very tempting, but at the moment I am at the limits of my spending unless I sell some things!

MIDI is 37 years old now!
-
Of course it isn't, its a tapping surface
-
How about doing it the other way round, you could put a resistor on the neck pickup to bring it down to the same level as the bridge pickup?
-
So what is the tuning on that. No way can it be tuned 4ths all the way, from the weight of the strings it looks like the bottom strings are all the same.

The multitool I got from there has turned out to be surprisingly useful! -

All of mine, apart from the really long ones come from there. In fact a large amount of my shed contents come from the middle of lidl! -
Does the Keyboard have midi? You could just use your computer / ipad for running one of the many great synths from (or maybe a £30 midi keyboard), some of those are excellent. The casio keyboard, even if it is a toy can produce a decent sound when in a mix so I wouldn't just dismiss it due to familiarity if it is just chords you want.

Oh look, they have been busy:
-
Thats why I suggested the Xi, it has an analogue synth, a midi module (x2) and a drum machine, as well as a sequencer and other facilities. THe only think I didn't like about it was the black and red finish, hard to see on stage lights!
-
and it doesn't do a piano. Probably better with something like a roland JD Xi for that
-
Main band - people who are in the same band as me. Secondary band, would hang out with the drummer, so that is as friendly as a band has been since my 20s (when we were all mates first, band second).

By seeing it slowly move, do you mean you sat and watched it happening, with a 'I wonder if that will tip into that hole'. 'Yep'. -
Plain silly statements by those who should know better.

Me too, I find it amazing that people care *so* much about which bass was used for what! -
"I really wanted to play your guitar" (tanked up punters)

We have that at the end. We finish (after the 5 one more songs). Put the instruments away and we are taking the PA of the poles when some guys come up with 'oh one more song guys) -
Agree with that, I have had that one. Give me a list of all your songs, then tell me which ones you want to audition. If I feel comfortable enough with those I will spend some time on the others too, but I have also (in this case joined a band) learned songs to be told 'oh we don't do that one any more' or 'we haven't started that one yet'

I always mute the PA at everytime that we aren't using it, half time and as soon as we stop. We often get the drunk person who gets up to sing but there isn't much distance between me and the singer, and if they try coming up there, they are going to get a bass to the back of the head. -
Songs that start promisingly and then...oh dear
Woodinblack replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
To be fair, it is entirely Joe Walshes song, so I guess he gets to say who sings it. Axl Rose has a terrible weedy voice (regarless of the rest of his faults), so with a decent singer, they could have made the all time great rock songs, but his voice is just like very small nails on a blackboard and a let down at any point. Agreed that one isn't as bad as 'you could be mine' or 'welcome to the jungle' -
They aren't actually neck too heavy if you see what I mean. The balance is quite near the front, but they weigh so little it is hard to say, actually surprisingly light.
