Well, I got my HX today and I am really impressed so far. Played through the presets and cobbled together some patches. one thing I hadn’t realised that is fantastic is that I had gone down to two songs that I needed my 12 step for, and each of those are just a couple of chords, so I could trigger those from the hx, which frees a large amount of room on the pedalboard!

Or more likely, Gibson are asshats so charge so much that no-one buys them when they make them so they assume there is no demand. And frankly they might be right, you can flog an almost never ending supply of les Paul 57 reissues..
-
So what is the point? If you can't trust him to play something right and you have to explain everything, wouldn't you just be better off (for everyones sake) with someone else?
-
Yeh, you can never rely on him to be in the right place at the right time
-
Me too, so I went exclusively to 5s. Then after a while I came back to it and found that 4s no longer presented a problem, as instead of a 5 seeming like a 4 with an extra string, the 4 now seems like a 5 with the bottom string missing, and as such I don't have a problem (apart from a couple of songs where I have to move everything around to play them) as it is obvious it isn't right.

Rule 3: Don't stand on the thunderflash
-
So they didn't miss the 'I don't want the gantry to fall on me or to catch fire' clause?
-
Yeh, they look good on the desktop, but then they are £10 for the iPad one and £100 for the mac one - thats what put me off! I have tried the helix native 15 day trial, if only it was 15 days of playing rather than calendar days. It is really impressive though (its what made me realise I needed the HX instead of the stomp). Probably easier if you buy it with the LT as it is a cheap deal. I looked around for reviews on the amp but couldn't find anything, has yours been published? Seems like it would be brilliant with the one caviat of redundant software compatible hardware, like the old iphone effects pedals etc. But just the whole amp designer with the 'change this valve, oh that is a bit brighter' bit is certainly worth the entrance fee. I am surprised they haven't done a similar thing with the effects though - so what happens if I change the opamp in my overdrive from a TL084 to a LM741 or run the powersupply slightly cold?

Noticed yesterday that BIAS have their normal black friday 50% sales, so as a happy user of jam up pro and some of their other stuff, I treated myself to Amp2 with all the packs and Bias FX with the essentials. Spent quality time with the amp designer and it really does work pretty well. Had a bit of difficulty getting Jam up FX and Amp to play nice together (FX and Amp work ok together, but I wanted the jam up part too). Might have just got in a funny state. One day I will try gigging with them and seeing how it goes! Certainly would like to try the amplifier they do

Is having honey trickle into your earls lovely?
-
I have issues with 6s in the necks are too big, and also in the heat of a gig I can get the string wrong. Having had years of gigging 4s and 5s, I tend to reference from the G which is not so good when it is a C!
-
That 'piano through whatever' makes a good sound. There was a good 'model D through a strymon big sky' video I watched yesterday that got me thinking. Mostly wouldn't it be nice to have a big sky!
-
Maybe when they make the stomp pro, which has twice as many blocks and twice as many buttons, at the same price - I might be in
-
Well, I think they are more american aren't they. I mean they are owned by Yamaha, but only currently, they started as their own company. Frankly, if they hadn't made the stomp I wouldn't have noticed they made the HX, so it worked for me too!
-
Same here!
-
I guess it depends on what sort of a band you are. If you are a serious band, do nothing, if not, go wild!
-
Yay, that was quick

I was about to buy it full price, and then I was offered it second hand. There aren't many second hand stomps around at the moment so that is hardly a comparison. So I am not getting your point at all. So your point is that line 6 are bad people for not making a product that you wanted them to make and instead making something else? I really really don't get your logic. By that same logic are Zoom also not bad people for also not making a helix? so how many people have an HX? I am guessing it is a lot more Yes, load of people have gone out to buy the new thing that just came out this month, at the same time, rather than something else which they could have bought any time, thus demonstrating that that new thing is so much better than all the other things. That is totally unheard of, obviously or would we have loads of multi page threads where people were all buying the newest thing that had just come out like, oh I don't know, a new zoom b3n or a flea jazz bass or some amplifier etc. That would be crazy
-
Well, that is invariably the problem of buying things. If you buy something that isn't quite what you want and something else comes out later, that is a normal part of purchasing. This stuff we have today is complete junk compared to what is going to be out in several years, so it is down to whether something is out that does close to what you want, when you want it, knowing that at sometime later, you can guarantee that something better will be out. Well, that is in the real world, I suppose in the guitar / bass world it will be 'oh these new helixes aren't a patch on the original mk1s from just before the 20s'
-
I was interested in that - so what was it that made you choose that, was it a size thing or you just didn't need all of it? I mean otherwise the LT has all of the HX plus more.
-
Too right, if I was a touring musician or playing bigger places than the pub opposite tescos in town, I would have a full fat helix (or maybe helix rack) without as a second thought.
-
Very hard - what would be the point of the Helix LT then if a unit half the price and half the size did the same thing? No, easier to make a cut down unit with less DSP for people who want just the amps - I am surprised they didn't do an HX Amps, but then maybe that is what the stomp is effectively. I find the amps quite uninteresting compared to the effects. I have amps. I can have all the modelling I want, but my 2 x 12" Tc cabs and TC450 isn't going to sound the same as an ampeg and 8x10 however good they are, so until I am going straight into a PA without an amp it has less interest for me. I think you just want different things.

I bought used from someone on this very forum. I was trying to decide whether to go for an LT or an HX and got contacted with an HX for sale, so went for that. Obviously the LT had all the stuff, but the size was a bit off-putting as was the price. The Full helix was way out for price. The Stomp, although interesting, wasn't something I would have gone for, too few blocks, too few buttons..
