  1. Was there no gain change in all of its travel? Its just that if it is a single turn pot, there is a gap right in the middle which would make it cut out, but the rest of the travel should work. Thinking about it, I beleive I have a tone pump in a box somewhere, I will see how that one is.
  2. Odd weekend. We were supposed to be doing a gig in a village sat night, but when we went to confim last week were informed the LL had had a heart attack and was taking it easy now and they thought thye had told us but not. Well, fair enough, they probably had other things on their minds. Then we got a notification of a local pub that is closing and up for sale wanted us on a sunday night 7-10. A bit odd, most places dont do sunday nights but whatever. Went down there in the rain to setup, and turns out the landlord had got drunk, forgot he booked us and hadn't advertised or anything. There were about 10 people there, but we went ahead anyway. Easy setup as there was noone in the way, the pub is good for live music, and the guitarist wasn't in the way, so we could get setup before he got there. Did a sound check, sounded fine. Started the gig, had now got to about 12 people, sounded awful, loads of feedback, levels all over the place, no idea why. First song sounded weird, second song we missed half of it, sounds like a trainwreck but on the plus side, noone really there to hear it. After the 3rd song, things fell into place, and continued the first half ok. A few other people drifted in, and it picked up a bit but not much, a few tracks went down ok, like the streets and Linkin park. I am playing a fretless bass, a gwb35, as I just got it and thought I would see how it did, it did fine, better for some tracks a bit trickier for others. During the second half a few more people came in and there was a bit of dancing, but not that much. Got to the end, people obviously called for one more song, even though they hadn't really noticed we were there, so we did. Easy packup and load, and nice to get back before 11. The landlord was actually really happy for whatever reason (I am sure he couldn't have made money from it) and the landlord of another venue was tehre who wanted to book us too, so I guess it was positive, and it was a paid practice which was also good, but not going to go down in the list as something to be remembered! Ironically (and maybe because there weren't many people there), some tracks I think we did better than ever, including my singing ones like "Feel it still" etc. so I enjoyed that. And the GWB35 is certainly a pretty easily giggable bass.
  3. So as promised, I did. Not the gig on saturday, that was cancelled, but we picked up another gig for sunday, which I am back from. I figured as I normally play the acrylic bass in the second half, i only needed it for the first half which is mainly the blues and rock bits before we get on to the party stuff int he second half. Well, turns out I enjoyed playing it so much I just carried on, and as there weren't many people there, didn't seem much point using the acrylic as it is largely for show. Some songs I found it actually seemed to make easier. There were a few that were tricky, the ones I normally use a plectrum for, not using that on a GWB35, anything that needed a longer sustain not as good. but most where, and the ones I thought might be tricky - all right now top bit at the 17th fret up was actually pretty good. In the end was good too - as I play the piano with one hand and the bass with the other, it was handy that it was actually up more because of the lighter pressure thing.
  4. Well, yes, you have been hitting the inspirational posters too hard!
  5. Urgh - did you read that on a new age inspirational picture? Or an MBA course about giving 110%
  6. spin it back to where it came from and see if it comes back?
  7. It gives me more speed in reality. Not only that it is more comfortable. However, if you currently use 2 I doubt it is easy to learn to use 3, I started with 3, so 2 seems a bit uncomfortable.
  8. Yep, online on the parcelforce.com site, which is where I noticed where you but it it mentions it will appear on your statement as parcel2go.com. Ironically I had previously gone to parcel2go, where the cost was £18, which is why I thought i would check parcelforces site.
  9. Ah - sorry missed that, I thought it was for a full bass! I got 3 big knobs and 6 sliders plus postage from ashdown including postage for £2.50
  10. Not sure why you would go to a music teacher who wasn't teaching you what you wanted to learn in a manner that is convenient to you? Its not like bass is a rare instrument or that you are in the sticks, you must have a huge choice of options (try chapman stick teachers)
  11. I use 3, my two fingers are not really fast enough for whatever reason and they don't seem to be getting faster, so when I first got a bass when I was a kid i used 3 fingers and thats what stuck, one fingernail like a pick, one finger both sides (like geddy lee but not as good), two for medium paced stuff, 3 for everything else. In no fixed reason, just whatver my hand decides to do.
  12. I was very surprised - I bought a bass that was pickup only last week, and the basschatter very kindly offered to box it if I could courier it. So I looked around and thought I would give parcelforce a try. Did the dimensions and the weight and it ended up at £10. I thought that was cheap so I got my wife to double check as she does lots of shipping, and sure enough, same result. So I thought maybe it is the cost of cover that bumps it up - it was covered to £150, so I thought I would put it the cost which was £250 and it went up by £2, so I got that too (ok, no good if they break it but if they lose it which seems more likely). So I booked a 48 hour service with them where they turn up with the labels, take the box and deliver it here, which they did, all went smoothly. £12.
  13. Wouldn't think that £50 for delivery from the states was that expensive.
  14. In this case that you posted it is because those images aren't not actually there. They were probably removed in the great 'not enough space for pictures' crisis of a few years ago
  15. Of course they don't, but its not about them, he specifically said he wanted to try to do not the same as every other group. Can't think of any local groups apart from us that don't do Dakota, and thats only because I put effort in for us not to do it!
  16. Wouldn't that literally fall into the thing he was trying to avoid of sounding like every other group?
  17. Just bought a GWB35 off Mike, well described, all went through smoothly and was a pleasure to deal with, thanks!
  18. Looks like a great value fun little bass. I have a 28" scale bass which I use quite a lot (and have gigged a couple of times) and it is a good size in the house
  19. Unless they are sequenced, it is pretty well impossible for most original bands too Also, not being Johnny Cash would have caused exactly the same lack of success. Ask an orchestra, they seem to like it. And the art of playing things, the fun of playing things and playing live motivates a lot of people more than coming up with something new. Some people prefer playing music to a 100 people who are all dancing and having a good time rather than their mum saying 'thats nice dear'.
  20. I should be getting a fretless tomorrow, and I have a gig on saturday. Seems like the ideal oportunity to find out if it is a good idea
  21. Is there a crossover of things on bandcamp and other streaming services?
  22. I have mine in a roqsolid cover and it has been fine
