Guess it has to be short scale, as there isn't that much in it.

And doing very badly it would seem
-
hehe - yes maybe. I don't forced cheerful people in the morning!
-
Nope - for me sport would be the same as listening to a program on religion. As it is I have to turn the TV off before I leave for work as they get to the sport bit. She is awful for what I want in the morning, she is bright and cheerful and tries really hard to be funny. I don't want her interviewing people, the last thing I want to hear is interviews with musicians, frankly, I don't care what their song means to them, that is irrelevant to me. If I cared I would look it up. Its before 8.00am. I don't want bright and cheerful, I don't find her good to listen to, she is professional and she seems like she is trying really hard (and I am sure she is) and I find her kind of shrill. She is kind of a perfect radio DJ. The previous guy was brilliant. He was subdued, grumpy, moaned a bit, completely random, not even vaguely enthusiastic and played a variety of music. He is not a perfect radio DJ and as a result he was perfect.

I had no real opinion on her when you posted this, but now she is on 6 music morning show, I now need something else to listen to in the morning. I used to listen to radio 4, but it got too depressing, then i got 6 music as I got a car with DAB, and all has been good in the last year. Now she has taken over the breakfast show I can't listen to it, I have been going back to see if radio 4 is any less depressing, it seems it isn't. Local radio is dire, I am not yet old enough to listen to radio 2 so I guess it is down to listening to my own recordings.

Hell Is Other People (who know you play in a band)
Woodinblack replied to Monkey Steve's topic in General Discussion
Actually, no, when i have conversations about music, it tends to be the irritating one that goes like: Them: Oh you play instruments, I would love to do that, but I have no talent. Me: You just need to get an instrument, learn it and practice Them: Oh but I am not good at that sort of stuff, it must be nice to have talent so you can do it. Me: Its just practice, you just keep practicing and you get better. Them: No, I tried it once, I couldn't get a decent sound, but its easy of you have talent isn't it -

That sounds pretty bad, but if I had gone somewhere expecting slade to be repeat and they were having an Aqua barbie girl party, I would still think I was up on the deal! -
Good luck to them. However, I just bought a new bass from dawsons, as it was £340 cheaper than PMT and Guitar Guitar, and £150 less than Andertons (I don't think andertons got the price fixing memo!). I am happy to support whatever shops, but I am not paying £340 for it, and dawsons were in stock.

I would say it is like a democratised public service thing. Where you get 'talent' on the BBC getting millions for doing very little just because you have your foot in the door, with youtube, you get paid per view, so if you get millions it is because a lot of people think you are worth listening to. This is a lot fairer system then broadcast television has ever had. You can go and get a camera, plug it into a computer, get a free youtube acount and start making your millions from doing very little today.

Ahh - reading round the web, this is probably something to do with the new buying consortium GAP, which is Guitar Guitar, Andertons and PMT, which is designed to raise the prices of guitars and making exclusive deals (hence all the new G&Ls) to protect them from internet undercutting and protect them from going out of business. There are a few things on the net about it. http://www.musicinstrumentnews.co.uk/2018/08/02/is-it-time-to-start-showing-some-of-the-big-brands-the-door/

Actually, the keyboards had prices on them because I was looking at the nords.
-
Yeh - I thought about it but I haven't got the space and noone to form a prog band with!

Depends what amps you want, they have ashdown and orange basically from what I remember. Some of the ashdowns sound nice, especially the head of doom going into the CTM300.

I don't understand what you are not getting. It has happened already. We have become a less attractive country for investment and finance, we have already lost sections of the banking industry etc. We have gone from the 5th largest economy to the 7th, the country has lost many billions. Our economy was based on our stability, and we have lost that. We have spent the last 2 years slagging off the rest of the world and telling them that we might not pay our debts, now people don't want to lend stuff to us for some reason. We don't get that back even if we stay in the EU, the damage is already done - those jobs don't come back, they have already gone.

Heads up: Modal CRAFT Synth 2.0 Kickstarter ending soon.
Woodinblack replied to BassTractor's topic in Other Instruments
here it just went to a 404, then I tried various other things to get it, and it went to other pages, then I gave up and did a search for synth on kickstarter and found it! Sorry to be negative on it, the synth looks great - although i am trying to cut down on stuff and I would more likely trust something from bristol because I could drive there and shout at them in case of problems. It is also soon to release so the delay is likely to be less. Just got burned a few times, both on delay and on costs, but it is a fact I am sitting here with kickstarter things I use every day! -

Cool Well, with kickstarter, I tend to multiply the distance between now and their expected shipping date by 1.5 and assume it will be that. I have only had one beat that, I have had 2 that were over a year late, and 1 that was over 2 years late and a couple that just went bad. Luckily not expensive ones. Now I tend to just make a note of what I am interested in, and if it is already funded, wait until a year or so later and see if it is selling! When you paste it it puts the video and there is a banner underneath asking if you want to post a link instead. As even adding the h to your link it didn't work. -
Thats the thing as I said 'it' has already happened to our economy. The actual brexit is irrelevant to the concept of finance. Our economy is physically worth a lot less than it was (many billions) because finance isn't a absolute, our economy was based on our stability and reliability, and that we have lost, we are not a reliable or safe place to store money. Whether Brexit happens or not, it doesn't materially affect that, we have shown a side of ourselves that the world hadn't realised. Obviously if it does happen then it will have an impact, more companies will have to move out and inward investment will be reduced so our economy will go down further. This will affect us in prices although it will make our workforce more competitive, which will be a shame as we no longer manufacture much, but maybe after a decade or so we will have increased it a bit. But even if we did cancel brexit, our economy can not rise back to where it was because we have already lost a lot of influence and the investment that went away won't come back because it is already somewhere else, and unless there is something wrong with them it will stay there, it costs money to move stuff. However, it will go back up a bit, and more importantly, stabilise. So yeh, maybe I should get that Ibanez now!.

Only real drawback is kickstarter. Always a bit of a pain, always at least 2 months late if you are lucky, and several years if you aren't. Looks an interesting project but I have to be totally sold on something now before I back it. Not that I haven't had good stuff from there, I am sitting here with a watch from it, and I had an artiphon instrument 1, which was ok. Just a lot of other hassle! and that link doesn't work. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/skulpt/modal-craftsynth-20 -
A large part of it has happened, in that our currency is worth a lot less than it was 2 years ago as we don't have the economy that we had. €1000 euro bass in 2016 was £700, now it is over £900, so it is a reasonable reason for things costing more.

I was in PMT in bristol the other day too, and noticed the same, which I thought was odd, but there were things being moved around (they weren't like that before christmas). I had a look at the ibanez, but without a price tag on it I am not looking. I think it is a bad move, regardless of whether it is understandable or not. There are less than 50 basses in there, unless they are changing daily it doesn't seem totally onerous to put a price tag on it. Also I noticed, looking at the price of one specific ibanez, it has now gone up to the price it was 6 months ago, whereas andersons are the pre christmas price and someone else is lower.

Ooh - you put your drummer in a box - would love that
