Obviously you know more about the construction of these things, but my dean is a 45mm nut, and the spector was quite a bit less. Also it had I believe a single truss rod. It was a better bass to play than the dean (but in my case 4 times the price so I didn't keep it, but maybe I should have).

Mine neither, I only mentioned it if people were interested in seeing them. Which I must admit I might if they were down my way!
-
You know they come as 8 strings don't you?
-
haha - trust me, the 4 of us did make up a large group of the people present!
-
Yes, but we never won the meat raffle!

Sorry to hear about the stroke, but aren't they Cloudbusting as in the song, rather than Cloudbursting?
-
Oh this is nothing like yours, yours are a work of art, this is what I picked up from ebay for £50: which I have to redo the headstock for because: Umm.. thats not going to work! But the previous owner I bought it from at least replaced the machineheads with more decent ones. Still in the wrong place though!

Interesting and reminds me I need to finish off my 12 string thunderbird soon, or at least redo the headstock!

Mine is deeply unexciting. Ie, that is what it was. We were the for 2 hours, had absolutely no involvement with anyone except one woman who kept asking for zz top between every song, as its what was played at her wedding, when we finally gave in we asked what song, and she didn't know. It was very depressing. All the others where things have gone wrong or something kicked off weren't worse because at least they weren't as dull as that! That is an accurate example of what it was like, except bear in mind that there were about 100 people out in the garden, having a barbeque on a nice night. And about 40 people in the bar which is about 40' behind this. And for a while there were a few kids who slid around on the shiny floor.

(READ IF YOU HAVE A) Fender '61 Flea Bass (Woes)
Woodinblack replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
When I had the geddy fender its neck moved the most of any neck I have ever had (which in general is hardly at all), but even that didn't move that much, that is pretty major. The new neck would be great (although I suspect it will sound a bit different) although no neck should do that! -
Almost certainly. As I suspect he won't burn out due to drugs and a rock'n'roll! And in 20 years time there will be a load of 40 year olds going on about how great music was in their day and how modern music is all rubbish
-
Could certainly be tempted by this: Although I think I would need a black fingerboard, and I am not sure how I feel about that solitary lower machinehead!
-
Sounds good - will have to miss that one as I am gigging that night, but some other one I am sure I can come to, don't have many friday gigs.

How come I haven't updated this in 5 years? Here goes then. Well, there is the iceman Although it has new knobs and is active now. The GVB36, although I have just sold that one Here is the SR5005 and the SR1605 with some of their mates (including an ibby SA36) The others are upstairs, the ATK 305 and the SRF805

Maybe, I am still optimistic enough to think it is still slightly above nothing.

Might nip along to that at some point!

No more Procrastination! (An interesting small valve head story)
Woodinblack replied to Bridgehouse's topic in Amps and Cabs
Oh yes, I would take a spare if it was a valve, but mine is completely bottle free so I don't. Worst comes to the worst I can plug in the PA. -

I take two basses to every gig in case, but I must admit I have never thought of having a spare amp. -

Woodinblack replied to Bridgehouse's topic in Amps and Cabs
Almost all guitarists I have played with had a valve amp, and pretty well all of them had a problem with it at some point in a gig. Some are definitely worth it, but some really aren't. Im always a bit happier when our guitarist hasn't brought his orange amp to a gig. - edit - in all fairness I do have 2 valve guitar amps, and haven't had any problems with them! -
That is one of the hot rods!

Life's priorities, at 20 vs whatever age your are now
Woodinblack replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
When I started 20, I had no priorities, I had stopped working and was enjoying hanging round with my unemployed mates. Having a great time, getting stoned a lot, riding bikes around, having fun. Then part way through that year, my girfriend said she was pregnant, then shortly after that I had a bike accident and broke my leg quite badly, so my priorities changed quite a bit in that year. Now, who knows, got to pay everything off, have no mates anymore, actually enjoy working, and enjoy music. Generally fairly happy so I guess having fun still plays in there, it has just changed how I do it -
Best second hand 5 string ibanez I could get under £300. Probably a 505

Last sunday of the year at the top of Ham Hill, a local beauty spot with a pub on top. Sunday afternoon gigs there are often good if the weather is nice as they have extensive gardens, food, drink and a covered tent out there all summer with benches that people can come in to watch the music, and a second, less crowded bar than the main building. Turns out the weather was nice, it was pretty well heaving, including a number of people who had specifically come to see us. We didn't mess up anything much and it went down well. Afternoons can often be a bit of a bust as noone is drunk enough to start dancing, but there was quite a lot of dancing, and the great thing is the age range, from just born to late 80s (who was dancing on a table near the end). A great afternoon, nice way to end that season

No more Procrastination! (An interesting small valve head story)
Woodinblack replied to Bridgehouse's topic in Amps and Cabs
From a very small sample set, they really don't seem very reliable things do they! Now I remember why I tend to avoid valve amplifiers -
Do they? I don't know. There are many reasons that something breaks down, QC certainly has an impact, as does cheaper / poorer assembly. That makes sense, it would make it vary more but not necessarily make it more unreliable. obviously a 1% metal film resistor costs quite a bit more than a 5% resistor, and it would affect the frequency response or gain in an amplifier for instance (assuming it was out - there is no reason a 5% resistor actually has to be more out than a 1%, its just more likely), but not the reliability of it. Cheap construction, bad wiring, poor switchgear etc, they can have an effect, but on a circuit board with low current components, there isn't much to break.
