Active PA Cabs, What have you got and are they any good?
Woodinblack replied to Chienmortbb's topic in PA set up and use
I had 2 alto 212s for a while, but lacked a bit in a few places. Got a cheap 12" sub which worked well outside, didn't bother inside. Eventually got fed up with a bit of a lack of clarity on the vocals, picked up a single RCF Evox 8 which made the vocals really clear, so now gig with that and one of the 212s. A bit random but mostly works -
In an ideal world, for a digital pedal, i would want it to turn on in the same state it turned off. For other pedals, I would expect it to depend on how likely it was to be an always on effect - graphic EQ, yes, Filter pedal, no.

Me and my wife were in a band, I was actually the longest serving member in a fast turnover band that wasn't going anywhere. My wife came in as the singer, she is pretty good, but her voice isn't the girly type, more rock and stuff. There was another guy singer, who thought he was very good, even though he had a range of about 1 octave and never bothered remembering anything. During lockdown we kept practicing. When we got back together it was clear he hadn't but also that something had changed with the singer and drummer as a team. After a few practices that weren't as good as they could have been and a 'recording' session where they somehow forgot to record my wifes vocals (but ok it was through my mixer and I did), I got a phone call saying the band had decided that she wasn't the right singer for the way they wanted to go but did I want to still play bass. Needless, the only reason I was with the band was because it gave us something to do together so I didn't and made it clear what I thought of them. That is the wrong way to do it - ie, she still looks them up to follow how little they are doing - my wife joined as the previous singer walked out, because of the other singer (found out later), and since watching them in their last 2 years, they are now on their 4th female singer, one of whom was absolutely fantastic for the direction they apparently wanted, and the guitarist (who was also excelent) and replacement bass player have gone.

The Continuing Story of Problem Bandmates.

"Sorry - I was just following your vocals" -
I would be happy for it to just start off - it has a LCD display and lights to show it is actually on, so I know the device is functional, I don't want it to have the effect on at startup - A synth pedal is almost never going to be an always on effect. I think it being on at startup is a defect, made worse by the fact it has a settings menu where having a flag for 'start on' would be a simple preference

Why would you have needed lifeboats on a ship that wasn't going to sink? Makes perfect sense. Plus, when they made a law that all boats had to have enough lifeboats for everyone, at least 1 boat, the eastland, rolled over under the weight of the lifeboats and 800 people died. Either way, this is playing the bass, however bad you are its unlikely anyone is going to die

40th Anniversary Precision £259 at Thomann!
Woodinblack replied to Frank n funker's topic in Bass Guitars
There are a lot of prices on reverb that are just crazy, I guess they are there just in case someone is daft enough to pay it. You can still buy them new less than £400, so there is no point paying more than that for a second hand one -
I did contact them to see how much a neck for a 5 string Ibanez Premium is, and it was about $1100 which seemed not such a bad deal as a way of getting into that.

My spare is acrylic and lights up green and blue. So its not really a spare, I swap to it at the half time mark, it is mostly not as good as the other bass I have, and it is way heavier, but it gets a good reaction and looks good. I couldn't wear it for a whole gig, but one 1.5 hour stint is ok.

I couldn't really go for that peach but would rather not have roadworn. The prices have gone up a lot, the flee was under £800 when it came out a few years ago, so it seems very overpriced now, but you can see it has things like the rosewood neck etc that are less budget. Also was not a fan of the controls on a passive bass, not enough separation between pickups (which is I assume why Leo stopped doing them quite quickly). Price hard to say, I couldn't pay that for either, but as it seems you have already made the decision, congrats on a new bass!

They also do them as an add on to an existing one of their boards. When I got mine the delay for getting the power supplies was big, so I got the board to set it up, then got the power supply on order. When it came you get new side bars, end bar and feet and just swap them over.

Anyone else got a particularly long finger nail?
Woodinblack replied to Big J's topic in General Discussion
I use either the flat of my fingers or my finger nails to play, depending on the style of the song. -
Pretty handy those, they really clean up your pedalboard and they have quite a lot of sockets.

The SY200 pedal does this - not one you want on automatically!

Arent the mk2 pickups the same ones used in the SSFRS-805 etc? I remember that nord did custom pickups for that size.

Love the colour of the neck / frets with the body, really nice contrast. Shouldn't it be under the tree with you waiting until monday though?
-
Yes, those are the ibanez barts like on most of their models. I think it is only the original prestige models that had the american barts, they are very different

Was yours the one that was in Bass Gallery a while back?

I would probably go for an X32 compact or producer. I used the X32 fill at one point at a festival, and that worked well, although the screen was a bit small
-
hmm.. wouldn't be keen on that, a lot of waiting around while you have to be there for 5 hours. We have done some odd times at nye, but not that odd.
-
Not saying bad words about it, but its not one that I would pick to put a very expensive neck on, I would pick something that at least had nord pickups
