Depends - I will do friends and family for any amount that I am reasonably confident on and I have established that the person I am talking is a real genuine person and I would be prepared to send them an envelope of cash, but if it is a large amount that I am not prepared to lose I would pay ordinary paypal, it is only a few quid more and you get protection on it.

To once again reiterate a point that has been made many times before, paypal Friends and Family is the same as stuffing some tenners in an envelope and posting it to someone. If someone is your friend or your family, or equivalent and you are sure of the address they are using, then fine, use it if you trust them 100% or you don't care about the money, but otherwise don't. And if someone insists on you using it, run a mile. Also thanks to the members that flagged these posts up as dodgy.

Yes my Ibanez artcore semi hollow, it's too gassy live but louder than the other basses when not plugged in

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Woodinblack replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
I would put it a bit lower, but yes, it is quite clear when you go up the M5 from Bristol there is a sign that says "The North" - so obviously anything more north of that is the North. -
Help & Advice - Roland/Boss COSM & MIDI Synth experience
Woodinblack replied to Richard R's topic in Effects
Sorry - missed this before - I think it has a lot of potential. As mentioned the pitch to frequency is a bit slow and not great for stuff with attack (although can be used fine if you prepare for it and play for its latency), the stuff the V synths do (and the new boss stuff) which uses the actual signal and processes it works fine as it is using the actual signal (same as the current boss pedals but with the whole set of strings). Ironically the original roland system used this too to produce its best sounds. Also don't ignore the Variax stuff that already does this in one instrument -
That is literally one of the purposes of midi - to be able to control many devices from various places.

Local pub tonight (like, took me 3 minutes to drive home local), but had never been there before. only reason we got the gig was our singer went in to ask if they had rehursal space - they didn't but they did have gigs. I wasnt' sure what to expect, the place looked small, and when we set up it was right against the bar, so the drummer went in the corner and the rest of us were out from there (looking at other band pictures there, that is what everyone does). Really easy setup and by the time we started quite a crowd. We played well and the crowd were enthusiastic and energetic. Great night, they overpaid us and asked us back for their leaving night do in December. There is some video they shot but its on facebook, so no idea if people would be able to see it or not!

Compact mixing desks - what are you using?
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
I do all channel multitracks, but we only wire up the full drums on outdoor gigs (such as todays) so I will multitrack from this one. I use Garage Band on an old laptop to actually record, and then just put it in logic to do any mixing, the laptop I record on is an old 1st edition macbook air with a floppy lid that is dented, so I don't mind it dissapearing on stage! I record all gigs but never really tried it with my zoom, maybe I should - I just tend to stick the recorder somewhere. The XR16 had a usb recorder, shame they took that off on the 18, but then you get the multitrack (which is the main reason I changed). -
I had one, black one with no scratchplate. played well, the pickups were a bit weak I thought, compared to a geddy lee that I used to have. The non beveled sides in the end started to irritate me a bit but then I got rid of it, as I always do, because it was a 4 string so I couldn't really use it live. Overall I liked it, but it didn't have anything to really make it stand out, other than its looks, and that wasn't enough.

haha - I would say the exact opposite!

This has already been fixed

why is it a univeral thing that people who want £15000 for an instrument can't actually take an in focus photo?
-
All these things are compromises. Obviously 2 5" speakers aren't going to get you that flat a response, i mean you know full well, *nothing* will actually give you a flat response / full range, it is just a compromise of how close to a flat response you want to go for what size and what cost. The Bose has a nice range and response, and a great battery life, but not so loud and stupidly expensive (does go nicely with the dwarf though), the gear4music one was actually pretty good considering it was reasonably cheap (b stock), and reasonably light for a tower, it would have been good enough for playing without a drum kit. well, 30W-50 amp modules are common and cheap, as well as small enough to put in a cab, and as all you need from a preamp is to be flat, any sort of hifi preamp module would do.
-
Depends on your volume requirements - for lowish volumes, yes, for rock band volumes, no. But don't you already have a battery combo? I had a gear4music battery powered PA, probably ok for the singer/songwriter level, but not much good for anything else, and I have a Bose S1, which is pretty good at what it does but again, there is a limit to volume.

Sorry - fail to believe that any crowd loved a drum solo!

I do hope so!

That is one pretty neck. I must admit I prefer the matched headstock and I don't think it would be my first choice of colour, but sounds like something rather nice.

My wife has always been (and is still) convinced that Mike Kerr will eventually turn out to be a serial killer, she is fairly convinced of this. She still likes the group though.

I don't think so, they did a signature thing for Geezer Butler, and I am sure as a result they sold a few units and their company carried on trading. I almost bought one once when I saw a clearence one. I doubt anyone ever needed that setup, but the unit itself looks really cool (and you can see with the EVO V, a lot of people thought so!) and that is 80% of the job!

Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
Indeed - the options for expanding are much greater and thus the options for spending money are much much greater! -
No, don't confuse the things - that shows them running 4 speakers - if they were all 4Ω and in parallel then yes that would be 1Ω, but they aren't, they are 4 separate 4Ω speakers being driven by 4 separate amps, driven from the same source. And note this is perfectly possible with 4 separate ABMs (or even 2 separate ABM1200s) just that it has a mod to make this easier.

I have a pro and an air 2, the air 2 was just for gigging, until recently it ran all the soft synths. Well, until recently it ran! still cost £80 for a new one so sadly not worth trying to fix. I have a pro for everything else -

Yeh, I have to do that too, my gigging iPad died, and I assume the new (old) one I got on eBay will probably come with an updated OS! I am on the beta test for the new software, it's looking good but still going to be a while
