  1. If you want just an effects pedal that you can rely on to do stuff using the normal sort of effects, you would be better off with the boss - it will retain its value, it will work flawlessly at all times, it will be hiss and noise free. If you want to experiment and play around with options and have some non standard effects or other noise generators, the mod is the one to go for. My mod has been perfectly reliable (although I have only gigged it once and group practiced with it twice) but you can get it into states of not producing any noise as you have set it up badly - my mod was not producing any noise at the practice, turns out my standard snapshot I had fiddled around with and removed the path to the amp! Other snapshots were fine. As for future proof, when getting a unit rely on it being what you buy - never assume it will be any better. Line 6 are good at updates, when it comes to things like the helix, not sure about older stuff. I have had quite a few boss things that never had updates. The Mod, yes, the chance of mod being around in the future is less likely (they have gone down the tubes once), although you are not tied to Mod for updates as the software can come from other people. But again, that involces work on your part.
  2. Easy one - I went to andertons and put in 5 string basses under £300 and there were only 5, so I would get the Ibanez TMB35, seeing as I already have one and I have already gigged it.
  3. I would actually be pretty annoyed about that
  4. Aint no mountain, Groove is in the heart, I wish, Roundabout (yes), Josie. And probably a load more
  5. I don't get it - I am not a guy who needs the money, but if I am going to show up at an audition and I have to learn 4 songs you can be sure I will have learned those 4 songs. And probably checked them out on line and learned a couple of the others too. Because if I didn't want it, I wouldn't be going, which means I obviously do want it, so I am going to make sure that I have every chance that I can have.
  6. Oh what a pain, i have been waiting for one of those in that colour for ages, now it is here, I am flying out of the country after the weekend for a few weeks!
  7. Apart from on a mustang, I have never liked flats on anything. I have tried a few. I guess with the mustang I was just going for a vintage sound anyway
  8. Tell you what though, the demo reminded its a good idea to record something on the dwarf, and put it in a loop so you can refine your effects. And a great effect is taking the output of the audio to CSV to control the pitch of a harmonizer. Totally unmusical, but still a great effect - and reminds me of one of the things that you get with the dwarf that you got in the early days of synths - unliike, say the helix, where everything is thought out and musical, this lets you do stupid stuff!
  9. haven't tried the demo, but the device has no clicks when enabling / disabling, unless there is a huge level change
  10. Hard to see what the actual values are, there are several statements, and calculations that show it should be 5ms, but could be up to 8ms. But it is hard to tell what is real or opinion on those forums, so probably one day I am going to have a latency measuring day, of measuring everything.
  11. I haven;t currently but probably will add my SY200 back at some point. however I didnt have it in an effects loop on the hx, it was just before the input, probably would do the same, or put it in the other channel and mix back in
  12. Also not going to turn up at the same time, if you were talented, you would have learned the songs. We got a new guitarist just before christmas, showed him the setlist, asked him to learn 3 songs for the audition, come the audition he had done those 3, but then we went through another 12 doubt it - our old guitarist did that, he never changed
  13. I assume the sum of the energy going in is the same as going out. Although this is only an emulation so it is a choice that the values are lower. Getting the live levels right can be a bit of a pain.
  14. I think with that set list I have probably been in that band!
  15. Local pub, first time with the dwarf effect pedal, only one issue! - we were in a little alcove which seemed not great but turns out it was great for sound, the PA was outside, we were inside, no feedback or anything, could keep the volume inside quite low. Its only our third gig with our new guitarist and it is going from strength to strength. A few silly mistakes but nothing major, crowd were good, didn't seem like anyone at the start, but by the end it was pretty busy. Effect pedal is excellent, very happy with it, considering going ampless soon and just going through the PA.
  16. Basically, from my brief reading, on connecting the CC device (footpedal or whatever) introduces itself to the dwarf, describing its features, along the line of 'Hi, I am an external device called "Footpedal from hell", I have 12 switches, 8 knobs, and 3 expressions, here are the parameters of my controls" and sends a list saying for each control what its limits are, if it is a button it is latching or momentary etc. Then in the webUI setup, you can assign whatever parameters to those knobs, so when you load that patch, the dwarf will send a list of parameters to the pedal such as 'Switch 1 is called Drive and it is off, switch two is called octave- and it is on' etc. Makes for quite a flexible system because obviously just because you have say, 4 buttons, you don't have to say you have 4, you can say you have 8 if you have ways to send 8 virtual buttons to the system, so if you have 5 buttons, and one switches between 4 banks, you can say you have 16. The downside of it at the moment is that you can just control the mod dwarf this way, but if at sometime you get something else, you can just change the code.
  17. ok, so 3 people who know I am an idiot Been fiddling around with stuff, getting the hang of it. Very important to get the levels right, I switched patch on the gig yesterday and almost deafened everyone with the bass (mind you, it was deafening, but it sounded great!) Have spent the evening looking at the footswitch specs. Think I will probably go the easy route and just make a control chain interface. That way all the asignment can be done in the Web UI, so there isn't anything else to do.
  18. Yeh - how dumb am I, within a few minutes of actually looking I solved both of those issues. As you say, the advanced does the label (never clicked on that) and the banks are on their own section (I was looking in pedalboards). I am not actually sure if I still want to keep all those pedalboards, even if I have got banks, but I dont' want to lose them either. This is the great advantage of posting here, only 2 people know I am an idiot here, whereas in the mod forum everyone would!
  19. Well, the actual pedalboard looks really sad - it has an audio effect pedal, the dwarf, a large gap and a aby switch (used to be wireless / wired, and below the pedalboard and page turner. More spare gaps than anything! The actual setup in the dwarf not that exciting at the moment, I need to spend time with it, but not got any time at the moment. I took the SVT patch that is default, and added a crossover before the octaver, so it doesn't really kick in until the octave below is in normal bass range anyway (or things get messy). The thing I had the problem with at practice was too many pedalboards - I see there are banks - they are not explained at all in the manual and I don't see in the Web UI how to make new banks. I suppose I can just delete all the patches already existing, and maybe back them up, but in practice I tried paging between all the banks from the top to the bottom, and the dwarf locked up, just flashing the purple lights at me. I settled for naming my patches with 1, 2, 3 etc in front of them for easy access. that worked, but not ideal at the moment. I guess I should just ask on the dwarf thread. My current other issue is that when you assign a knob in the UI to a knob on the panel, you can't seem to be able to name it, so when playing around, I had assigned several knobs to several controls, and I had a panel labeled 'Volume' 'Volume' 'Volume' - which is remarkably unhelpful!
  20. So first gig with the mod dwarf yesterday. I put it on my pedalboard in the space taken by the Helix HXFX. I had a new pedalboard on order from thomann, backordered because they are waiting for the power supplies, and I need to cancel it - i need a smaller board not a bigger one! it takes the function of all my other pedals. Sounded great, using mostly the stock SVT patch, although as i have dedicated output 2 to keyboards, I messed up and used a stero patch in one song that was way too loud - Have to ensure either to mute the output when not using keys, or more generally make sure the patches are mono. Navigation isn't as smooth as the helix, mostly due to the number of buttons (same reason I never got a Helix stomp) so will need some external footpedal to be able to switch effects on and off - unless I can just use the 12 step somehow. Switching between patches is a bit cumbersome during an actual gig, unless you know what is coming up, I often dont. So I will need a general patch, a patch for when I am using keys, and a patch with a lot of different switchable effects. Still great fun and it sounded really good.
  21. had a difficulty searching for that second one until I searched for the first and realised the second was 'gift of love'
  22. Not really relevant to this coversation or actually that useful if DHL fail to deliver.
  23. Certainly sounds like you are diving straight in! I hate cmake with a passion (and not a huge fan of VSCode either), but they are good for that sort of thing if you can deal with their stupid ways and mostly unavoidable if you are using a bunch of different other peoples libraries. I haven't done anything about footpedals yet - I am a few months behind you and I am still not sure how I want to use the device, it could well be I can use the mvave as it is.
  24. Merged with the "Boss Wireless alternative" thread.
