Well, not so much the dwarf, as mentioned I do have one of those, but I have a tonex one, and am wondering if a ToneX would be something I could use - seems quite a flexible device, still not sure. There was so much to look at there! As to the etch-a-sketch, that was magnetic paper, shows the magnetic fields on various pickups, so I was looking at what was under the plastic / metal of the pickups. Was going to put them here, but will post under a different thread for that!
-
I have been looking at the magnetic field of the pickups in my rickenbacker 4003, and they are the weakest magnetic field of any pickup in any instrument in the house, which probably also says why they are quite low output, compared to the 'hi gain' pickups in my 4004, which are about normal for most pickups. Not sure how that affects the tone, but it must do somehow!

And because people had asked, and my wife promised to get it posted, here are some public service announcements regarding food! Spanakopita recipe https://domesticgothess.com/blog/2020/01/11/vegan-spanakopita/ Vegan lardy cake is based on this recipe except I soak the fruit in boiling water with a teabag, then drain and let dry as much as possible. I then mix them in the fat/sugar/spice mix and laminate the dough, so I roll the dough out as a rectangle, cover the left 2/3 with some of the filling, fold the right side over then the left, roll out again and repeat until no mix is left. And I bake it as a loaf rather than 4 small cakes. https://www.sweeterthanoats.com/vegan-lardy-cake/

No, Its a very headful Sei Flamboyant.
-
Probably not. They are a short run, they will all sell and then they will not make any more for a decade or so. Its the way ric do things, if they didn't they would all not sell for a fraction of what they cost. Rickenbacker didn't get to where they are today by giving people what they wanted!

There were some other league raffle prizes indeed - not often you can get a bass in a raffle! So many interesting things there, as I said surveying the scene at lunchtime, I doubt there is a shop in the UK you could go in and see the same range of basses as at the bass bash! Great to meet everyone new and old, it was another fine bash and this one just a little bit busier than the last few, so we had to get more tables
-
I have mine I am bringing just the 4 basses and a few other things, but that is probably just as well as MrsSabbyInBlack will need the space to get a couple of days of food in the car!

A space behind the bridge where maybe you could put a sandwich for half way through a long gig?
-
I don't use Amazon, so I have no idea what that means
-
You waiting for it to be delivered huh? That would be good. I will also bring the my bass board, thats always entertaining.
-
Well, the schaller machine heads and high gain pickups would effectively make it the parts of a 4004, with the bridge of a 4003
-
Even if you have to buy the band saw, router, sander and CNC you have a chance of it coming out cheaper!
-
That is really just a normal ric with the bridge put on in the wrong place isn't it!

Recommendations. Bose L1 type set-up for small venues.

Like most things, it is down to placement and eq. We also have a very loud-ass drummer, and yes you can get feedback if you turn things right up, but we don't generally have problems other than our singer is actually naturally quite muffled (ie, I have to turn down a lot as a backing singer to not cut through more than him). once you EQ its fine, and it is not normally something we worry about as compared to the saxophone feedback, vocal feedback is no problem! If we play outdoors I sometimes take a bigger bass amp to take myself out of the PA but in general I don't, and we can still be heard at the back. If you have facebook this is recorded from behind the bar in a busy pub https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1JZ6tcXy9j/ -

I would add the evox which repaced 2 Alto 12" speakers on poles has been great, both of my mine were second hand bought at different times (for a while I was on one evox and a speaker on a pole) - both cost around £500. We put everything through them (I also use a bam200 bass amp with a 10" gnome speaker as backup) and in general for pubs they work great and as you say, it doesn't get in the way and not so much of a cab landing on someones head issue. The biggest change was the clarity of vocals. -
Fun fact, I was one of the few people who didn't almost by a Wal for £300 in the 80s!
-
Sure is. And it will be joined by its new 4 string cousin as that has just turned up

I love everything until hold your fire (which was the last tour of theirs I saw), after which I went off in a different direction to them. It seemed every subsequent album was weaker, but that maybe just because I didn't listen to them to death like the previous one. For me Power Windows was one of the very good ones. There aren't any before hold your fire (maybe even including) that I wouldn't sit and listen to the whole album.

Yep, ben is the creator of Crimson Guitars, really well spoken with a biohazard tattoo on his head.
-
Yeh, I thought about the bridge, its just a bit too old to have it (6 years), but I will leave it to see if it annoys me before getting one.
-
Many of us in the south west did a 1 day maintainance course with fret leveling a few years back* when they were starting up - Ben came to one of our early bass bashes. It was very good and would have always liked to do the building course but it is just getting a week to go! * Of course, when I say 'a few years' that means 11! edit - I looked for the original thread for it, but it suffered in the old Photobucucket purge of 2016!

First impressions, good to play, B string aside, although the action is too high, but I don't want to change that just yet, because the A&D strings are proud of the nut, and looking on the interweb, rics are supposed to have a weird 45-55-75-105 gauge for those strings, and I suspect this is just a standard 45-65-85-105, so I ordered some new middle strings and see what that is like before I adjust anything. Also the pickup seems quite a way down, but also slightly on an angle, but one of those metal surrounds you get would be nice so I will get one of those.
