The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Woodinblack replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
My Squier Mustang has Fender Flats on it, which are the only flats I use* (that I kept) and also the only time I used fender strings! I wanted flats for the AGB, as it tends to be the one I play acoustically these days as it is the loudest acoustic. The chromes were too anaemic, they didn't sound good at all, which is why i thought I would go for the original gauge. It probably isn't a bass I would be gigging much (I took it to a gig, it was so boomy) so not so important. * by that I mean, the only bass I use that has flats on! -

On strings I wanted new strings for my AGB 205 as I think they may be the original, and it has to be a decade old. After measuring I realised that although it is short scale, it has so much gap behind the bridge that it uses long scale strings I had some old chromes, thought they would work but the are way smaller than the strings on the original. looked up the original sizes and they are 55 - 145, so couldn't find flats. couldn't actually find a t string set either, so got a 4 string set and an individual -

I would like a "singer handed the microphone to the most tone deaf woman in the room" filter, but they don't seem to have one! -
I assume that Trace Elliot had a lot of valves left over in the factory when they shut down the plant, and ashdown just carried on using them recently.

Indeed - was mentioned in the release

Certainly if you want to be cabled that is probably the best way. I am wireless both ways. -

Honestly I would like something better, but for me, the XVives, while being mono and maybe not the best, don't cost that much (I think they are on the high side of what they are worth), but the fact it is a bit of equipment that I don't have to put somewhere, find a plug for, set up etc is worth it for me. I already have the PA, the cables etc. OK, not quite so bad now as we have a new guitarist and unlike the old one, he helps setup / breakdown (I would have mentioned that I wouldn't carry the evox 8 and the alto back to my car in one go had I seen him start - still, he will know next time!) If someone else was doing it for me I woud be happy with something else, but when I look at equipment purchases now, after years of gigging, my views are "How does this make my setup easier?". If its no easier but better, thats fine, but if it actually is more complicated, then it better be a hell of a lot bettter than what I have to be used. -
Do an admin request with what name you want etc (or PM me about it).

I dont' know what desk you have now, you have been through a few - on my X18 I just turn the aux output for my IEMs down, so the same thing as that. -

Not really, no. Yes, you can get interference although it tends to knock the channel out rather than distort the sound. If your bass is clipping it is too loud for something, Either for your headphones (don't know what you are using) or too loud as an input somewhere - maybe turn your iem output on the mixer down and the xvive volume up?. Wireless is fine at dealing with the whole signal, I don't get any clipping anywhere. Also if it was fine at the soundcheck and not with the band, I assume there was a volume difference? -

Not sure what the Eh? was about - Digital or analogue, the signal goes out, and everything on the same frequency that can handle its protocol receives it. However, if you want to encrypt to one device, you either have to have set it with some unique code in manufacture or setup, or have a pairing time, where you can press a button on something to set the code (but then you can press the button on multiple things at the same time to get round that), or the receiver also needs to be able to communicate back to provide a code to the transmitter (so both need to be transceivers, so more expensive). I am sure my XVives talk to multiple receivers (I can check, I have 1 tx and 2 rx) -

Indeed - so if you need to synchronize with something it gets more expensive as you need a transmitter and receiver on both ends. The cheaper something is, the less likely it is. -

Its radio - unless its encrypted you can have as many recievers as you like recieving the same mix from the same transmitter, as long as they are on the same frequency (ie, channel) -
neither the Euro 5LX or Euro 6LX are listed as having a split coil option. I see mention of people having that put in, but not from the factory.
-
I got one too, was looking for something similar so see if that fits the bill
-
Just tried it on mine. the back beat does vibrate to the aux in and the aux level doesn't appear to be affected in any way by whether or not the bass or output are plugged in and/or playing.
-
I can try it on mine - I mean if you plug the aux in does it vibrate, as I think it should, but now of course I have said that I can't remember if it does. Trying to establish if the vibratey thing is working or just the connection to it stopped
-
Does the sound go through it still? Does it work with the aux in?

As mentioned in a couple of other posts, but here in the pinned section, @Norm passed away suddenly yesterday morning. 25/02/23. He was a regular to the SW Bass bashes and other events in this area and will be greatly missed by those of us who met him.

Compact budget PA set-up to put bass through (without back-line).
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
Sadly (well, not too sadly) the sax is wireless, so he dances around with it like mad. It tends to not be when he is playing that it feeds back, it is when he is singing and holding the sax to the side. Irritatingly he has recently started doing that.
