The IEM (in ear monitors) Bible thread

I guess "affordable" and "budget" are in the ear of the beholder! -
Well, that is a terribly polite version. More pop goes easy listening. Technially well done I suppose but a bit lifeless compared to either the original or the more well known Nattybruge version!

His acoustic bass section was certainly good. Although the 80s was starting to a look a lot like home!

Would you fret a vintage fretless p bass?
Woodinblack replied to Cscsiga's topic in General Discussion
Personally I would just get another neck that was already fretted, mainly because it is just a lot less faff than fretting something. Save the neck in case you want to go back at some point. -
Well, this helps a lot to start with: https://github.com/deezer/spleeter

Residency. Kind of. Who has done one, pros and cons?

We did one pub every month for a year and a half (then covid came along). It was handy in that it felt comfortable, it had people that knew us and we could try out new stuff in an familiar environment to see how they worked. -
if the audio is before the beat why would you want to advance it, or is this just me misunderstanding your use of advance here? So (for my clarity) in your DAW you have some data you have put in by hand (that you call the audio) that is on the beat, or the reference, and then you record by playing that out and playing along with it from a keyboard, where you would expect 20ms input delay and 30ms audio delay but find that the recorded midi is in advance of the audio? In which case the only two possible reasons are that the computer is deciding you have this delay and shifting it by this number forward, but the numbers aren't right, or you are playing in advance of what you hear (I have this really bad problem for doing that unless I concentrate). Not sure about cubase, havent' used it for 20 years or so, but is there any auto correct in there for midi input? Oh yes, checking the web, there is an 'auto correct for latency' in the audio system, maybe something about that?

I have been looking but I don’t have an android phone so I am currently not able to find a way of reproducing it. Is there a specific page that it will work on, or a specific phone / version of android? (I assume it is specific, there are hundreds of android users here and I assume only a subset seeing this?) -
Maybe they used to be smaller - I am sure I still have a bag for one somewhere, unless I added it when I sold mine. Glad you like it but safe to safe it wasn't the best amp i ever had!
-
Handy to know, I saw that but didn't know if it was any good. I had a £66 bow from bass bags in my basket currently
-
i had one of their bows in my cart, but now I look it is only available on bows over £150 which seems reasonable but I am nowhere near the £150 bow level yet, so I guess I will have to get something cheap to find out if it is something I want to do, and then if it is I can get something better

No, obviously they are into the music as well, but they also want the whole package, sleves, lyric sheets, and the general tactile feeling of a record.
-
I don't think it has anything to do with that. People who buy records (AKA vinyl) are enthusiasts in having a thing. People who buy CDs just want the music, and now streaming is the way of doing it, so there is less of a need for a CD, plus you can often download it from the website when buying now, if you want losless. The CD doesn't have any advantage over the lossless download (I buy CDs, rip them and then listen to that).
-
Where on earth do you do that? The only places I know of are online, and they certainly don't do that. I don't believe there are any shops within quite a way of here that will do it.
-
Yes, so it is sort of like you have had to have somethinng to know what it is you don't like!
-
Love Cats. OK, not a tricky song, but its my first on the big standy up bass!
-
And if you get your tone with that, fine, as I said it is not an issue if you don't have an issue with it, but regardless it happens. Obviously you can boost the treble up again if you want, I just find it easier to not lose it in the first place for the sake of a 9v battery.

using a cable that is 10 metres long has a big effect on a passive bass, so much so that wireless sender manufacturers include a 'cable tone' switch or option, and people say 'oh I don't like the sound of an active bass, I just like passive' - the 'sound of a passive' bass is the same as the sound of an active bass with a notable resistor and capacitor network introduced before the first gain stage, as at the end of the pickups, unless you have EMGs or something, you are listening to the sound of a passive bass. I prefer to have control over that. I am aware other people dont care, or prefer the highs to be removed. That isn't even vauguely relevant, that is a voltage drop on a cable on a 50Hz, which isn't important, you can just boost that signal back up again. Now do the same calculation with the resistance and capacitance on a 1khz signal - sure, your low bass frequencies are fine as above, 50Hz, but your 1k signals are way down. Boosting that up just gives you a louder signal with the highs reduced. Now maybe that doesn't matter to you, thats fine. If you like the james jamerson thing with 10 year old strings, or someone that wants to wind the tone down, thats fine and you aren't going to notice anyway. And thats before we get into injected noise.
-
For me, I don't care about the tone, I just want the signal that my bass produces to be the same everywhere, and not be dependant on the cable or the input of the amplifier, so the original purpose of a preamp - a buffer to get rid of tone loss in the cable.

Sorry hadn't seen this, looks like some kind of corrupt image, or something that android doesn't like. I haven't seen this and don't appear to be able to recreate it (but also don't have any android devices). What are the steps to reproduce it please? Can anyone get it to happen on a desktop at all? -

The main thing seemed that your videos were very big for what they showed, some software is better than others, not sure what your platform was again to suggest anything. The other option for videos is youtube with a link here -

Because you have almost half a gig of uploads so over the limit, so I am surprised it lets you upload anything! Ultimate you need to trim a bit before you can upload more -
I loved playing pump it up in my last group, its such a fun song to play, I had never actually heard it before it appeared in a setlist of a group I had joined, I was glad it did, spent ages getting it right!.
