Hmmm looks a bit like the Bobcat, Ultrasonic and Cheetah. It's got a made in japan imprint on the neck plate if that helps...

My Great Uncle found this in the loft, knowing I was a bass player he gave it to me. all I know is it's a Vox and it needs a new nut and a new bridge (if anyone could point me in the right direction for these Id' be grateful). Possibly some electronic attention too Any ideas what model it is?

Been emailing a luthier in America who specialises in the sublime. Interesting development, he said he could do it and he's mentioned that he could do a 25.5" scale version. Obviously the playability would be crazy cos of the guitar scaled neck, what I'd worry about is how it's gonna sound...

I never take a backup, I'm a heavy handed plectrum player and I've yet to break a string on my [b]own[/b] bass. I did however snap the A string on the bass I borrowed out in Hungary, halfway through the set and carried on - luckily I managed to play the rest of the set in an improvised manner

TJs is your best bet for a good punk crowd. I gigged there with the UK Subs not too long ago and the crowd were awesome

TJs - Newport, goes without saying. Metros, Barfly, Clwb Ifor Bach, The Point - Cardiff Ponty Muni is pretty good too

Unfortunately no... We play to crazy punks with mohicans and skinheads... and general bikers etc. Altho I would love to play a wedding just to see the faces of the bride and her family haha

Does anyone know of any reasonably priced luthiers who could produce a Devastator?

Yeah, I got a warlock. Really I'd be looking at something as near as near can be haha. I can see me enquiring with some luthiers! I've held the real deal in my hands, Jerry's a top man - ever since I saw it up close in the flesh I've wanted my own version

The BC Rich looks pretty close, shame it's a 5 string

I've had a look, I know Bernie Rico Jr is making replicas but as you are aware they won't be cheap. I'm looking for a suitably off the shelf option that I won't be afraid to gig Just incase anyone isn't sure of what it looks like this is the bass in question

Love it or hate it it's an iconic bass in punk. I'm itching to get my very own, unfortunately there are no production models - only custom shops (I think) Anyone know if there's any sneaky similar basses out there?

Ah that's cool. I ask because I know someone with an Arbiter who's not too fond of it and I might be able to prise it from them

I phoned last night and the guy said it had been sold. Glad it's gone to a good home and another BC'er. Looking forward to seeing the pics!

I was actually thinking about making a TRC myself... not a Rickenbacker one. a NICKenbacker one, since I'm a Nicky Wire fan haha That Fresher is a Nickenbacker in Wireglo

Yeah that's the one. The fretboard isn't too bad. It needs a new nut since the groove for the E is worn out (currently being supported by a rollen up square of card - I kid you not) It's generally worn around the edge but rough n ready suits me, I would never play a mint condish bass! The thing literally weighs a stone. How difficult is it to obtain a convincing looking truss rod cover?
