Started off with violin at primary school (was desperate to play guitar but my fingers were too small), then at aged 11 once the fingers were big enough I put the violin down and picked up the guitar. 8 years later I had a bass floating about and got asked to join a band on bass. Truth be told I prefer bassing to guitaring these days. Funny going from 4 to 6/12 strings back to 4 again.
Drug capital of Wales apparently. Good luck with learning the bass boyo!
Don't remind me, I positively despise living here at the best of times!
Root,5.Root,5,ad nauseum....who needs the other notes?Jazz players?I need a map to go above the 12th fret!
I sometimes venture past the 12th fret, mainly to vary it up when playing 'Alright' and I play the same intro as the guitarist on 'Wasted'

Welcome from Merthyr!

I actually quite like that... would look lovely on the rack next to my leapord print Les Paul bass
-
In that case Jase, you're sterling. I'm just a Dee Dee Ramone type with a bitta Lemmy thrown in for my sound haha. Not very technical but solid I suppose.

Have a look at Wilkinson hardware. Great value for money and it holds up really well (I give my bass a battering)
er ... left handed or right handed with that?
haha. Seriously for such a poor (and frankly lazy) guitarist he was a complete tosser. He was a bit of a James Blunt (writing wise and cockney rhyming wise )

I pick out the chords play those with a little improvisation in breaks and emphasise any hard hits our drummer makes. Apparently I'm more like a drummer than a guitarist when playing bass haha

I'm the opposite to the guy mentioned at the beginning of the thread. I can't play most solos, I improvise them.... Also I can't read music. Strangest guitarist I ever met was this guy who I was supposed to be joining a band with. One of my mates is a really good female rock vocalist, so she asked me to get involved with a new band on guitar. I met up with the other guitarist only to find out he was left handed, played the guitar strung up for a right handed player and played in open tuning. He was a complete tosser with it...
This is my one. I had it for sale in the for sale section, funnily enough, but have decided to put it on ebay. I've not asked for the other one to be deleted as I may bring it back over here or I may not. I have noted in the title that it is now on ebay though to keep everything right or did I. I didn't not want to decide to not list the bass neither for fear of not confusing none of the people wot aren't not disinterested in not buying this bass. Good luck with the sale, whoever picks it up has a top bit of kit there
Hey, I have the Washburn & Greco too.... along with the Silvertone (cracked mirror) and a rare Silvertone 'Preacher' prototype! Cool Basses I'll use in the show are an authentic custom built copy of his original 1976 Spector SB1 and a custom built Kramer 'Axe'. See you there!
Ah nice! Bit of a sneaky move by Mr Stanley there designing the Preacher at Silvertone then going over to Washburn again. I tried a Washburn Preacher up in Music Live, the gold PS7000 model. Quite impressed considering it was made in Indonesia of all places! I don't blame him for going back to Washburn at all, the quality is heaps better. I never really got why he went to Silvertone... they must have paid him incredibly handsomely!
Ooh! Nice Iceman! Who did that for you? I have an original 1978 Paul Stanley signature Iceman in my collection but there ain't no way I'm letting my 'Paul' play it! lol! Cool! Come up and say 'Hi'! afterwards! Should be one helluva party - doors open at 6.30, the new Paul Stanley live DVD will be screened immediately, then we'll do a two hour show with all the pyro/firebreathing etc, hopefully at least one 'dancing girl' and thenBogiez rock club afterwards! That Guitarfest appearance was a last minute thing - glad you enjoyed it! We had to use their gear and just get up and play!
I bought it as is from a KISS fan up in Newcastle. Wipes the floor with my Silvertone Sovereign Pro *suprise suprise*/ My Washburns the best tho, it's the PS500. I got a 78 Greco Frehley copy too. Hopefully I shall be there and I'll say hello. What bass(es) are you gonna use?
It's OK, I'm here! ....and thanks for the 'UK God Of Thunder' comments After BC Rich produced the original prototypes (some of which had 4-in-a-line headstocks) Gene then took the design and (word is...) had them built by Fernandes for him to sell direct. I don't have proof of this... but Fernandes is the name most bandied around... They're nice basses.... a little neck heavy, but nice and punchy/growly!
Cheers dude. Being quite the KISS fan I love Genes signature basses. I'm getting an Axe built for my collection, I'll have a guitar/bass for every member then. It'll take pride of place with my mirrorball Iceman Hopefully I shall see you at the Point in a couple of days. That's if I can get a ride there. I caught you at the Guitarfest about a year or two back, damn good band! Couldn't believe the amount of pyro for the size of the venue haha!
Thunder - now there is a great band.
Great band indeed. I saw them with Deep Purple and Peter Frampton. Great night, Frampton was on fire.
-
I'm pretty sure he owns one each of all of Gene's signature basses.
So would I if I won the lottery! That and all of the basses Nikki Sixx has had over the years
-
I'm sure Cetera does...
Ah very true, seeing as he's the British God of Thunder

Just wondered if anybody knew what factory produced the Axe and Punisher bass guitars that Gene licensed to Spencer Gifts in the late 90s. From what I gathered they were made in Japan and the name that crops up the most is Fernandes. Anyone know who made them?
all i can say is fair play mate... i wish i had an endorsement deal, i was offered one with ashdown at music live this year but couldnt afford to buy any gear at the time i will next year though ) yay! nice one mate..should be proud of yaself btw i like the vintage jaco bass sounds lurrrvvvly!!!
Cheers man. I'm very proud to be associated with the company, unlike some musicians out there I actually believe in the product. For the money you're getting a wicked quality bass with top notch hardware (one of the main factors I love is the varnished neck that competitors seem not to do) I'd love one of those Jaco Lookalikes.... snag is it's fretless. I'd be buggered haha
-
Congrats on the deal While we're on the topic of Vintage basses - I don't think I've seen anyone play so many duff notes confidently than the guy demoing the EST96 MM copy that they sell, has anyone seen that video?
That's Gavin, he was the guy who sorted out my endorsement haha. Really nice guy though.
A guitarist I work with is buting a Vintage Les Paul for his son for Christmas so looking forward to um....assessing it Just hope he makes it clear he wants the Vintage with the capital V or his mortgage has had it
Suggest this little beauty. The V100 Icon. It's inspired by the Les Paul owned by Peter Green/Gary Moore. They had the actual guitar to look at during the design process. Very good guitar for the money, bucketloads of cool with the relicing too!
nice my experience with vintage basses is that they play amazing and are really cheap but are let don't by the wriring / electronics
How long ago did you play one? Now all Vintage stuff comes with Wilkinson hardware, that includes all the electronics. Really good stuff. Theres enough high end without sounding tinny and enough low without sounding muddy.
I didn't know that - interesting. Another one to add to the list of famous Rickenfaker users..Barry Adamson,Bruce Foxton,Hooky,Cliff Burton(?)
Noooo his was a real one, I'm just not into paying Rick prices
Good job man! are you allowed to talk to us about contracts etc? Id be interested to hear the juice.
Basically I bought the bass, it was brilliant. I needed a replacement tuner tho. I went to Music Live 2008, spoke to a guy on the stand and after a few emails back and forth I was on the site. I'm doing this purely because I think the bass is awesome. I started off with a Vintage g*itar many years ago. I honestly think that the Vintage brand stuff is better than anything else in the price range. When I was looking for the bass I now play I tried a few competitors and nothing was quite this good for the money!
