Nathan bought my US edition Fender Squier Contemporary. Lovely bloke to deal with, very straightforward, good comms etc. Hope you enjoy it mate.

That's a great video mate, very nicely executed. TBH I don't think there is much to choose between the two basses in terms of tone etc, just that great Warwick sound! What interface were you using to record?

Jon Shuker’s work is outstanding and the similar bass I have almost plays itself as well as being a thing of beauty. Shuckers are also super-reliable/noiseless for recording. This one looks outstanding and is at a great price from a great seller. if I wasn’t married I’d be on the phone to Harry now! GLWTS - someone is gonna get a bargain!

Hi folks - So you have to cut and past the link into your browser. The pickups/controls are: "The Squier Contemporary Active Jazz Bass V HH delivers vibrant J Bass tones via a pair of ceramic humbucking pickups. Voiced for punchy lows and clear, articulate highs, these pickups offer ample output. And with the addition of active electronics, you've got the potential to shape your tone for any mix. Deviating from the traditional J Bass control set, the Contemporary Active Jazz Bass V HH features controls for master volume, pickup blend, master tone, and bass/treble boost."

Price drop ****** NEW PRICE £350 ******* to clear some space - but please remember that ALL proceeds are going to the "Big Issue" towards the homeless during the pandemic. Reduced price excludes shipping. Hi Folks, First off, all sale proceeds are going to be donated to the Big Issue towards their work with the homeless (evidence will be provided). So here is a Squier Contemporary Jazz 5 string bass which I imported from USA last year. It is therefore probably unique in the UK as it was a "Sweetwater Special" (see link below) reflecting their massive buying power with Fender. It differs from the UK/European ones because it has: - All black hardware - Maple neck with lovely black block inlays - Satin black body with black pickguard So its a bit special, hence why I'm looking for £390 (in nearly new condition - no dings/scratches, just some hardly visible swirls on the pickguard) compared to the £370 odd for the much less nice UK/Europe version. I don't have a case, but do have the original box it came in, so it could be shipped (at cost), but I'd rather collection or socially-distanced meet up. (I am in London a couple of times a week if that helps). The only negative for some will be the weight at around 11lbs. Its 34" scale with a comfortable 18mm string spacing at the bridge. Build quality is top notch and right up there with the Fender American Deluxe Jazz I used to own. Its a lot of bass for the money, and looks killer ! Full spec here: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JBassCAVHHMSB--squier-contemporary-active-jazz-bass-v-hh-sweetwater-exclusive-satin-black PM me if you have any questions. See my positive feedback in the feedback section. Dave

Ahh - I see.......

Ermm - you will - you will just have to pay 3.7% duty on "Musical instruments, the sound of which is produced, or must be amplified, electrically (for example, organs, guitars, accordions)" So Thomann may still be cheaper than some other suppliers................. On the other hand you could import a "rocket launcher or grenade launcher" at a 0% duty !!!! 😉 https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/762822/UKs_Goods_Schedule_at_the_WTO.pdf

Well they definitely do - if you're still looking to do this I could give you the contact point. They were excellent throughout the process, keeping me up to date right up to shipment followed by tracked delivery. That said the actual bass has only just been released from Stansted customs so I haven't seen what shape its in yet !!! Its coming on Monday........

Just imported a "Sweetwater Exclusive" bass guitar and had reckoned on total import taxes being 20% VAT + 3.7% Duty for a guitar. However the Duty came to nearly 38%. when I queried it FEDEX said that if the shipment costs are not known, then they can be estimated based on the package's weight. Even allowing for this it seemed dear so I challenged it and it was duly reduced to just 27.5% inc handling fees. The helpful E Mail I got from FEDEX (although no apology for their vast over-estimation) said In order to clarify the amount of duties and taxes calculated, here is how the customs procedure for calculation looks like. In order to clarify the amount of duties and taxes calculated, here is how the customs procedure for calculation looks like. - First, value for duty is calculated: - Value for Duty = Invoice value+ freight charges (non EU share). Secondly, we calculate duty: - Duty = Customs value for Duty x Duty Rate % Third step is VAT calculation: - VAT = (Invoice Value + Freight Charges + Duty Payable + VAT Adjustment) x VAT rate (20%) Freight charge is used in duty and tax calculation (value for duty and Value Added Tax) and it may raise duty and tax required. Additionally on top of payment of duties and taxes you must add direct processing fee, which is ancillary charge of 2.5% of total duties and taxes but no less than 12 GBP. Which all seemed pretty reasonable - so all I had forgotten was that the 20% VAT is the last calculation so you pay VAT on the Duty !!! Pretty pleased overall for a cheap-ish Squier 5 string bass that you can't get in Europe !
