2. Best thread ever! If my wife ever saw my office she'd be questioning my occupation! "My worst fear is dying and my wife selling my gear for what I told her I paid for it"
3.
Where in the Highlands are you?
Between Banff and Buckie, not strictly the highlands but close enough
4. Yeah, I don't doubt that there are real good heads at bargain prices to be had second hand but I've had bad experiences that put me off. Its ashdowns that I've had problems with but the next guy will say their ace. Its the lack of support up here in the highlands that nails the coffin for me. It can cost £50 in courier fees just to find the issue. If I had a repair guy round the corner, I would go s/h.
5.
Congrats mate Chuck a review up when it arrives!!
Will do, I don't think I'm back in the practice room til next weekend so I'll hold off until its been thoroughly tested. Thought I'd say too, I tried to play DV off against dolphin and g4m but none of them would touch it!
6.
Yeah DV will always price match In all honestly they've probably made a loss on that particular unit. They made a loss fairly often when I dealt with them apparently. When we got my singers microphone they actually said they'd 1p profit on it
Yeah, the guy kinda alluded to that on the phone! Can see them taking some more hits in the future now hehe!
7. Thanks Dan, and thanks to charic too! DV have (reluctantly) price matched the hartke and thrown in their 4 year warranty so I've went for it. Should be here Friday. Happy! Now, how do I break the news to the wife! Seriously, thanks guys, a 500w hartke for £250! Sick!
8. Free bump as I very nearly bought this! Amazing deal for someone
9.
In my whole playing life (over 30 years) I've only ever had to have one amp repaired, so I wouldn't worry toworking uch about that aspect. Re couriers... how do you think your new amp will get to you? Seriously - used (bought from on here) is the way to go, unless you know exactly what you want and it is not currently available on here. And yes, another vote for the LH500 here. Loads of clean, clear power (although the tonestack does take a bit of getting used to!).
Yeah well I'm maybe unlucky but I've had a couple go. Always output transistors. I'm wary as hell about s/h stuff coming via courier. It would be too easy to say it was working before. Then you have the hassle of postal insurance, nah, too busy for that. Also digital village do a 4yr warranty which is nice. I noticed the red sub head but its difficult finding reviews etc. Same with the Promethean 300h, I love ibanez basses but not sure about their amps. DV do a 30 day money back guarantee so I'll return it if I don't like it. The tc sounds good with its toneprint function so I might try that if the lh500 doesn't live up, I'm doing a wide mix of styles so it could be handy.
10. Thanks guys! Its great to get advice on here. My local crappy music shop only stocks "kustom" so its really difficult to even try some amps out. I use an ampeg pf350 at rehearsal, its OK but I'm sure there is better to be had. I've sent out some price matches on the hartke so fingers crossed! The cab is a hartke too (never used it but drummer says its mighty). Can't wait to finally get out there, first gig in 5 weeks time, been playing for years but I've never gigged. I'm sure I'll be nervous as hell but excited too!
11. Genius! Thanks, I'll check that out
12. A while back, I posted here about an ash down eb head I picked up cheap. New to the live gigging game, I didn't realise how much power I needed to compete with a live drummer and everyone was right, it just didn't have the balls! I've flogged it on and now have a budget of £250 ish. I want to buy new as I'm miles from any reputable repair guys and just don't want the hassle of couriers and sh*t. The drummers bro has a 4ohm 410 that I can borrow so could anyone recommend a suitable head in my budget. I've spotted the likes of the little mark and the tc electronic but would 250w be enough for smallish gigs? Any advice appreciated!
13. Interesting, thanks. The guy with the 410 is round the corner from my work so going round to see it with my head when I'm back on Thursday (off on paternity, hence the need for extra income!). I thought £100 was pretty reasonable myself. We are hiring a PA and I can hire the 810 for £20 a day if I collect/return but ideally want my own rig. Might just squirrel it out for an 810.
14. Hi guys. I'm a bit new to cabs and that and wondered if I could ask for some advice. I've always played combos (never needed anything bigger) but when I joined the band I'm in, we decided to hire a room so I've been playing through an ampeg 250w head and an 8x10 ashdown cab. It sounds too good and its demotivating coming home to my behringer bx1200! So I took the plunge and bought an ashdown electric blue 180 head. There is a guy not far from me selling a Laney 4x10 cab and wondered what I could expect from it vs the 8x10? Also he's asking for £100, does that sound fair or are there better ones to be had? I'm playing small/medium venues with drummer, doing soul/funk/disco stuff. Any advice appreciated.
15. I'll second (third) the ashdown EB180. Love the tone and I just picked up a second hand head for £80!
16. There is a subtle difference. I've just spotted the thread from the other day and someone there spoke highly of the afb. Definitely worth seeing if I can get a try of one.
17. I'm in uncharted territory here! Started an acousticy type side project and really think that a semi acoustic would give me the sound I'm looking for. I've only ever played a gretsch I borrowed from a friend of a friend. They are a bit pricey for me though, I've got about £300-£400 to play with. Could anyone throw some decent semis to look at in my price range? I play an ibanez sr just now and love the neck, has anyone tried an afb200? Any guidance appreciated!

Hello all, new to this forum. Just recently got back in the game after a wee break to produce offspring! Play in an 8 piece function band to pay for the wee buggers lol! I'm from Scotland and am 30 years old, my name is Stu. I ise an sr600 and a fretless p bass special, my rig is a 500w ampeg head with ashdown 4x12 cab. Usually play funk/soul but I'm happy playing anything! (Was serenading my daughter with my slap version of call me maybe yesterday, hehe!) Anyway, hope to make some acquaintances on here, bass is a specialist subject round our way! Just to add, I waxed my p bass pickups last night to try and fix feedback issues and it works, I'll link the video I followed if anyone is interested!
