  1. Rare beast in the UK. Powerful pj style bass, jazz neck, adjustable mfd pickups, black metallic sparkle finish. In really good condition as she's a case queen, new when I bought it and gigged only a few times. Light surface marks which would polish out, no dents and dings. Open to trade offers, especially for mim jazz with cash either way. Pics found here. Drop to £370

Now, I don't expect 2 tops and 2 subs to do too much. That sort of rig will do a
pub very well and a small hall, but not much further.
Having said that... there is something to be said for the P.A that runs out of steam before it hits the bar area
as that is where people can get away from the sound.

That's always been my philosophy. Play to a sweet spot. We play weddings mainly so you don't want to be loud to the point it puts people off. We have an extra set of tops if required along with our wedges, never needed anything more for a medium sized hall with a crowd of 100-150.

  3. Interesting, our guitarist is a sound engineer and is looking for thumps as he reckons they're the best. Not sure if I agree. I have a couple of 15" passive subs and a 500w crown amp that have served me well. Sounds crisp to me and the drummer loves them too. I hope he keeps the receipt!

  4. If your anything like me, you'll only be arsed to take one, but want another as an option in case you get bored or there is some work going on to your main axe. I nearly won a cassidy on ebay, special edition silver burst, twas lovely. Went for around £320 I think. And I agree with the t bird comments. Sounds pretty good but it's a workout keeping them in your grasp (mine was modded too, with a quality strap, still behaved like a seagull in a school playground at lunchtime)

  5. Stumbled across an open group on Facebook called "the bass guitar". Omfg! Guys tearing lumps out each other over their subjective opinions, the old, an seemingly constant "4/5/6 is better than 4/5/6" (delete where appropriate) argument and general character assassination. Ok most seem to be 'merican but some Brits too. Sometimes it's funny but it's rarely educating. I was always of the opinion that us bassy types were laid back, noble, wise and mildly intoxicated fellows with nothing but respect for our mutual love of the lower frequency, as we all are on here. Throw a book of faces at it and everyone loses their minds.

  6. I can see why it's referred to as a jazz on steroids! It's definitely a bit more aggressive with the taps right open. It can be tamed though by backing off the neck pick up. I think it's almost identical shape wise to my sb2 (photo of the sisters attached) It took a bit of setting up, action was high even before my chromes went on, but I've managed to get as low an action now as I ever have, brilliant! I've heard the fret finishing can be dodgy with these but no issues, smooth as the proverbial. Sustain in bucketloads as per with a g&l, really happy. She'll get a proper workout at practice on Friday, can't bloody wait!

Very nice. These are ridiculously cheap on Thomann at the moment, I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on with it, and seeing some pics of your own!

As an aside, I don't think I could ever get a bass delivered to work. It would be pure torment!

I'll throw a couple snaps up tonight. Yeah, you couldn't get a used one for that price not all that long ago, with a couple vouchers to redeem too, it's pittance really considering the spec. And yeah, it's borderline torture but the wife's got her mean eye and grimace on just now so better for all concerned!

  8. Just arrived at my work. 3 tone sunburst with maple board, lovely translucent finish showing the stunning grain of the swap ash body. 7 hours til I can play it, will be a long day lol! Must add that I got the original model photos as it was the one thomann used for the website images. Nice touch :)

  9. Yeah, went off the idea quite quickly lol! I do use the pickup to rest on sometimes but move around a lot depending on the song so it's not always possible. I play an sb2 so have no tone pot, still getting used to it but it is making me use my fingers differently which is good. Floating is ok, just don't feel like I get the necessary purchase sometimes. I'll just keep working on it, I'm sure it will come.

I don't really use the B string as an anchor (maybe about 30% of the time?), I tend to still use the pickups for this. I do however love having the Low B on the bass even if it doesn't really get used all that often.

I say go for it. Worst case scenario you sell it on and stick to 4 stringers.

Certainly not afraid to buy and sell myself to the ideal solution. It's the fun of the game!

  11. Guys! I've been quite conscious of my technique lately. I tend to mostly play with my thumb resting on the string above. Obviously, I can't do this with the E string so tend to use an imaginary one if that makes sense. Does anyone specificly play a 5 for this reason? I would like to fret an E sometimes, as well drop to flat tuning without second bass, detuning etc. I did play a peev 5 once, quite liked it actually but never played any low notes really. I have the chance of an G&L L2500 but would it be overkill or a sound reason for a punt?

  12. Ibanez BTB300FM, four string bass. Mahogany body with flamed maple top, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, 35" scale, brushed chrome hardware and 4 band active eq. Fantastic sounding and beautiful instrument. Was using as my back up but have switched to using a semi hollow, it just hangs on the wall looking pretty now and deserves a new home. Couple marks on the face of one of the pickups but only noticeable close up and doesn't affect anything. Collection from Aberdeen or £200 posted.
