    I have a 1980 4001 which is fantastic. The neck is skinny, stable and the frets don't wear with roundwounds. I replaced the bridge with a hipshot as the old bridges are a weak link for sure but a 78 would sound and play really nicely in my opinion. I have 2 other Rics, a brand new ltd edition orangeglo and a 2019 Ltd pillar box red with .apple board. I've also owned several others down the years but you cannot beat the gnarly grunt and playability of a 4001. Also, the necks are fiddly to set up and should be done by a pro but once set they rarely need tweaking. I can do my own fret levelling and set ups but won't touch the old hairpin truss equipped 4001. It was set up 2 years ago and plays as well now as then. Guess mine is a thumbs up to joining the Ric club.

    What a tricky question. Playability also to me also means comfort and versatility so the red 4003s would be the most playable. With having a maple board it’s a bit snappier so is less of a one trick pony and of course no body binding means no forearm injury so if I was gigging and needed the most playable then I'd take the red.

    Sure is. Number 11 of 30. My surname is Orange and it was sort of meant to be.......... On the left is a very good nick 1980 4001, middle a 2019 limited run pillar box red 4003s and of course, L'Orange on the right.

    Bought to go in my shuker jazz but swapped back to the originals as they suited the bass better and mow lingering in my parts draw is this set of fender pure vintage 74 jazz pickups. Ratings / measurements are: bridge (red dot) pickup is 7.78k ohm and is 94mm. Neck (blue dot) is 7.14k ohm and 91mm. Thanks for looking.

    Hand wound JB42 Crel jazz bass pickup from bridge position. 7.57k ohms, 94mm. Dated 25/11/21. Taken out of my Jag bass to return it to stock. £50.

    Up for sale, after another failed attempt to get back into the music scene which ended before it started, is this wonderfully resonant, loud and clear single active speaker solution - particularly useful for some state monitoring for DI pedal users. I was going to pair this with my Kemper and it worked wonderfully but I've got no use for it so I should offer it for sale. It is exactly as when I bough it on this forum last year. It has a decent RCF case but the zip is broken and it has the original RCF box. I can post it within the UK or can drive within 50 miles of the Wirral to meet up Here's the link to the original ad with pics:

    There is no chance that it’s going anywhere. I used to have a strict one in, one out policy but I’m over that now and deploy a strict 5 in, hide two, sell one policy!

    This is why I'm keen on the no amp set up. I searched for ages and tweaked an SVT profile on the kemper and through my home monitors it sounds brilliant with all my basses. It's the sound I want to carry into the live environment. That may change in a band situation but the kemper is so editable that I know with a few tweaks I'll be able to dial in what I need.

    Well to resurrect an old thread, I did regret selling that modulus but kept a watch out from when I realised - back in 2017 - until 2 weeks ago when I spotted my very own bass up for sale in Some Neck guitars in Dublin. Guess what? We’re reunited and it feels so good…..

    Reading some reviews on the FRFR route for bass and many seem to say they just don't cut it for bass. Psychologically I'm drawn to something that looks like a bass cab - no doubt due to standing front of one for years. GR and Berg look good. I take it the blackstar unity series are much lower quality.

    Great questions. 3 piece, guitar, bass, drums, rock and indie. Not especially noisy. Just enough to compete with acoustic drums. Guitarist isn’t too loud. No FoH yet as it’s early days. If I was using a traditional rig I’d probably pick 400w and a 2x12. Budget preferably sub £750 and I’d prefer light as I don’t fancy lifting ceramic drivers in a birch cab any more……I did use Eden and Tech 21 VT500 previously for a bright zingy but deep tone.     I have a Kemper with some brilliant bass tones loaded so don't want to go down the amp / can route for my backline requirements. Just wondering if anyone has experience of a decent powered speaker / active bass cab? I've seen Blackstar unity active cabs and Berg IPs but has anyone tried a similar setup or have any advice please? Ta.

    Up for sale is my limited run Ferrari red Rickenbacker 4003 bass from 1993 with origonsl case. It plays and sounds great and has the bonus of a hipshot black bridge and I think these were made for just one year so it's very rare. It is in great condition with no knocks or dings & virtually no fret wear so has clearly not been played much. There's no paint wear on the back of the neck, no headstock dings and the only signs of use are some buckle rash marks on the back and some very light surface lacquer cracks. I swore I'd never let this go having sought one out for ages but an unforeseen bill means I have to let this one go. No trades unless its something under £500. Bass is on the Wirral but happy to drive 50 miles or so for a meet up or to ship at the buyer's cost. Thanks for looking and some better pics will be posted tmrw.
