Apparently the dimensions are fender standard but you never know.

Anybody sampled a "Freestyle Model 51 P" bass off ebay? I was looking at 51 model P basses after the revelation that a P bass solves all my bottom end needs (after 35 years of avoiding them as they are too simple - idiot.........but that's another story) when I came across these models on ebay; http://www.ebay.co.u...%3D282387750394 I just wondered if anyone has sampled the wares of Freestyle instruments and whether this would do as a base model from which I could mod to my hearts content?

What bass do you regret selling? Was it love?

Reading through all the posts here i realise i need my modulus VJ4 back. Or just a VJ4. I mean my initials are VJ so clearly we were made for one another but by god they're rare.... -

That's the thing isn't it? Do you try to find "that bass" that you let go but shouldn't have and attempt to get it back? Or an equivalent. Life's too short for regrets right? -

I wonder if we need an "I want my bass back" or "broken hearted bass player seeks reunion with former bass" page? -

I thought I was upgrading when I sold my modulus after succumbing to GAS for a USA Geddy Lee Jazz. Now the geddy is fantastic but that modulus vj4....... The more I think the more I regret that sale. More so than the rick. Silly me. -

It's the basses that are becoming classics and played like a dream that are galling. A rare 74 white 4001. How stupid. A rare modulus vj4 that played better than anything I ever owned. What was i thinking? On a similar note, aren't those basses that we all thought were crap in the 80s selling for a fortune now? When did satellite, columbus and kay become good? And collectable? -

That reminds me that in my search for "that bass" I may have regretfully discarded more than just the ricky and my modulus. I had an imported usa g&l l2000 before they were popular. I imported it for around £500 from the US. It was black with the slimmer jazz style maple neck and played like a dream. My only reason for selling was that there were that many tonal options that I could never settle on the right one (aka my own ignorance). That's 3 then. There's probably more. -
I just saw a pic of a bkack 4001 on bass players united and it reminded me of a regretful sale. Hopefully this won't sound like our tune (Simon Bates from the 80s.......) I bought a 74 ricky 4001 from music ground in leeds in 2000. It was stripped to the wood and sporting incorrect tuners, incorrect bridge and a jazz pick up in the bridge position. Having sourced all period correct parts, it was rewired and refinished back to original vintage white. It played like a dream, having been chosen on playability and I let it go about 4 years ago. Unfortunately I sold it to fund a modulus VJ4 which happens to be the only other bass I regret selling. How stupid is that.

I once again turn to my fellow bass players to help solve a band situation. As a regular pub / party /beer festival covers band we're considering pumping some money into a professional media pack, i.e. better recordings, video shoot and pro photos. The quality of the band isn't an issue and we're capable of the better paid gigs. However, is it worth the £1000+ for a pro media pack and do agents like Warble actually produce the goods or is it a closet industry full of self fulfilling demands from agents whose interest is as much to get a band to shell out £1000+ with a recommended media company (which I wouldn't use anyway) to get bands on their shelves?

Cable keeps popping out of amp during gigs. Help!

You are correct. In fact it would be a nightmare job. Direct replacement may be what's required however first to trial the neutrik jack. -

All good points. It's 2nd hand. Apparently it wasn't an issue for the previous owner. Apparently..... It's not me moving causing the cable to be spat out - it's speaker vibrations which should be eliminated by my gator case. Tethering the cable may help which I'll try. The neutrik jacks havent arrivred yet so no action to be taken by me yet and ok i wont shave a miniscule bit off the collar. I'll wait to see how the neutrik works and then just replace the fatter jacks if thst cures matters. longer term I may replace the input socket with a nice neutrik locking socket. I never had this before so it must be the socket at fault one way or another. -

Well the collar of the socket does sit proud of the nut and does seem to stop the jack seating home properly - but the PW jack does seem slightly shorter than some of my others. The proud collar would exacerbate that. I was considering a gentle trim of the socket collar to allow the jack to go in slightly deeper. It may be all I need to do to avoid any change of cable / socket.............I wonder if I should try that first with my dremel or a hack saw. -

All this leads (no pun intended) me to believe that I need to change the PCB mount input socket and I'm minded to change to a neutrik locking socket for good measure. There is no way to bend tangs or contacts on the current socket. Also it appears that some of my other jacks are very slightly longer which allows them to seat home correctly and not come out as the PW cable appears to.under the feintest of touch. Over the last 10 years using planet waves cables I've never had this trouble. Common denomination must mean the input socket needs changing. Out with the soldering iron, head torch and glasses it is then...... -
Whilst having a bit of amp trouble, the drummer in our band lent me his Roost SR 150 all tube guitar head. He said to give it a go and if I didn't want it, could I sell it on his behalf. Now I don't know where to start with guitar gear but understand that these Roost amps were used as bass amps too back in the day. As I understand it, the amp is modelled on the Hiwatt / Sound City amps. It's a 150w non reverb version, point to point wired which dates it as early 70s as later amps used PCBs. Weighing in at a mighty 35kg, it has 6 EL34 output valves. I had it hooked up to my bass cab and it was a rather loud 150w. I had it on 2 and it was flapping my trousers. Great tone also but too heavy for my ageing back so I'm putting it up for sale BUT don't really know a true value. I've said £600 or offers so please treat that subjectively. Any offers would need to be passed by our drummer. In the case of anything vintage it's only worth what someone will pay! I'm in Cheshire. It can be tried. I can deliver or meet up within a reasonable distance of Cheshire.

Cable keeps popping out of amp during gigs. Help!
vinorange replied to vinorange's topic in General Discussion
I only got the TF amp 2 weeks back so the planet waves cable isn't responsible for stretching the input socket. However I've ordered a couple of right angle neutrik 1/4"s so that if in any doubt gaffa tape will hole the jack ion at the right angle. I may of course be flapping about nothing now as once sitting it's Gator rack then it may be more immune to vibrations. The planet waves jacks are slightly fatter btw. That may mean my guitar jacks are now a bit floppy as I've certainly had them a while. New cables may be the answer. Not sure why I need the isolation switch now anyway.................... -

vinorange replied to vinorange's topic in General Discussion
On further examination the planet waves jack is slightly shorter and slightly fatter than my others and they seem to seat home in the socket better. I think I'll buy a couple of neutrik jacks and chop the planet waves jack off my cable at the amp end (I use the isolation switch at the guitar end). The socket is soldered to the underside of a PCB which contains all front panel controls so it is not a 5 minute job. The bottom of the chassis won't release to reveal the underside of the PCB as all the internal hardware is mounted on it so a new input socket will be last resort. I wonder whether the amp being in a rack case may help as it won't be vibrating so much.......... -

vinorange replied to vinorange's topic in General Discussion
I'll give that a go but having just tested different cables my older ones stay in the socket a little better than the planet wave cables. It's the vibration that spits the cable out so I'm not sure tying through the cab handle would do it. Gaffa tape may do it. Just a pity you can't get something that goes behind the socket nut and loops over your jack - that would do the job. -
Cable keeps popping out of amp during gigs. Help!
vinorange replied to vinorange's topic in General Discussion
It only spits the cable out due to vibrations from the cab however it wasn't in a rack case on its first outing and I've remedied that. I can't do anything with the socket as it's not the kind where the contact can be bent - it's a surface mount pcb type. I've realised after your post TimR that someone told me that planet waves cables are slightly bigger. Damn I love those cables but not as much as I love my cable staying in my amp so a cable swap it will be. I did wonder if there was anything on the market to lock the cable in. I know there are neutrik locking sockrts but as mine is pcb mount then that's out of the question. Unless I take it in to a tech of course.....
