I've now settled on Reaper despite being with Cubase from the old Atari ST days. I was fed up giving them more money for upgrades. It also didn't help that they discontinued support for their Midex 8 (RIP) interfaces. So these days it's Reaper, EMU 0404|USB2, Superior Drummer 2, and Steven Slate Drums EX.

Love it ! Hope the dvd thing can be sorted at some point

Sad day. I always enjoyed his posts, and his humour.

IIRC WTTC was Mo Foster, Roy Babbington, and the cream of the british session scene. There we go: Drums:Pete Van Hook/Simon Phillips/Barry De Souza Bass:Mo Foster/Roy Babbington Guitar:Ray Russell/Mike Paxman Keyboards:Chris Parren/Paul Hart Percussion:Morris Pert/John Punter/Mike Paxman Soprano Sax:Ray Warleigh String Arrangements:Paul Buckmaster Brass Arrangements:Ray Russell Tabla:Kesh Satche Orchestra leader:Gavin Wright/Richard Studt Piano notes:Steve Nye Great album. I took a lot from the bass playing on that, harmonics, fretless etc. Had my Aria TSB550N defretted because of it. Another £60 for Jimmy Moon

A lot will depend on the hours and set lengths etc. We always charged double for Hogmanay, but were expected to start about 10.00 and finish about 2.00 with a couple of breaks.
I had an Aria TSB550 too. It's a very nice bass. My one criticism of it would be the narrow string spacing at the bridge but that might not bother you.
Looking back I think that's one of the things I really liked about it.
-
As I've posted elsewhere on the forum, I had an Aria TSB550N which was 32" medium scale, with a through neck, and I loved it. Very comfortable. I also had a 32" medim Yamaha BB of some description after I had the Aria de-fretted. That was nice and comfy too. Most of the 32" I've seen recently tend to be either cut down PJ's, or very expensive Mark King Statii, Stu Hamm Urges etc. If I had the money I'd try and get one built for me, as I've got hand trouble these days. HTH

At weddings etc, before we learned sense and refused to let any one come up and play, I used to take a Korean Spector, so if we had a band wanting up, they could use that. No one got my Anni 'ray

Worst was an 80's Fender P with a horrible gun metal finish. It just sounded lifeless, and it weighed a ton. Also a Yamaha BB300(?), a medium scale bass which was great until the nut broke during rehearsal. I took it back to Sound Control and got another one, and I broke the nut on that one in the same place in the same song*. SC were calling me "Mr. Destructo" I gave up on them and got a synth module instead (stiil had my fretless anyway). * Alright, I'll own up. It was the slap bit in the middle of Sting's "Set Them Free"
Hello I'm looking to acquire a mixer for my mini homestudio. It will need to take an input from my computer (which only has a headphone out), a couple of line level inputs from various rack preamps and also a few other inputs for microphones and anything else which comes up. As far as outputs go, it would rock if it could have a USB or Firewire output, but that is not essential at all. Headphones and speakers outs are essential, however. It would also be grand if it would go in a rack too - 1 or 2u. I can't see it being much larger than that. The snag I see is the computer input...unless there is a thingie which can convert it to line level? Any help appreciated!
Is this too over the top for what you need ? You could also use it without the computer, but I have it synced to Reaper via it's midi sockets. For Sale: Korg D1600 Digital Multitrack with HD and CDR (see sig)
What's there not to like in JT's voice? highly underrated singer at her prime and I liked Rhino's playing on her stuff too, even some fretless if memory serves. I'm off to see Tzuke next month. Saw her a few years back and wasn't expectying her voice to still be up to much but she was spot on.
I've always liked her voice, band(s), and music. However, a couple of bands with female singers I was in didn't. Probably jealousy I'll be buying "Road Noise" (again) as soon as it is on sale :-) Remember, Rhino had to recreate some really good parts (esp fretless) from the likes of Mo Foster (get his book "17 and a half Watts" it's hilarious AND informative) etc. Not easy, but he managed really well, while injecting his own character too. Did I say, I liked JT ? I'm sure I did

Good interview with a great player, but I wish he would have said more about the Judie Tzuke band. OK, her voice isn't everyones' cup of tea, but the playing on the albums ("Road Noise" in particular) from Rhino was great !

what was the first number you gigged on a bass ?
2pods replied to essexbasscat's topic in General Discussion
Early '70's, St Pat's church hall, Top Twenty bass with missing "G" string, Selmer Treble and Bass 50 with Selmer cab, First three songs were "Know Where You Are" by Slade, "Black Night" Deep Purple, and "Stay With Me" by The Faces. Just remembered, it was a Top Twenty Bass, not a Zenta. -
Go to a doctor. Don't leave it. It could be anything from cramp, to nerve endings. Mine is Fibromyalgia now, but I'm pretty sure I put up with it for a few years thinking it was something or nothing, making it worse. I'm sure it will be nothing like that, but it won't hurt to check , eh ?

I'm selling a almost mint Korg D1600 digital multitrack with full 16/24 bit uncompressed recording. Containing a 16 track recorder, 24 channel 8-bus mixer and FX, built in hard drive, built in CDR, touchscreen control, four XLR/balanced line inputs with selectable phantom power, 4 balanced/unbalanced line inputs, optical SPDIF/IO, seperate monitor outs, MIDI IO, full range of digital EQ, FX, Finalisers, Amp sims etc, Scene memories for faders, guitar input, drum machine, and phones output. • 240 x 64-pixel backlit LCD touchscreen. • 16-bit or 24-bit uncompressed recording at 44.1kHz. • 16-track playback at 16-bit (eight at 24-bit). • Eight tracks of simultaneous recording at 16-bit (four at 24-bit). • Recording time with suppied 20Gb hard drive: 62 track hours at 16-bit or 41 track hours at 24-bit. • 100 songs per drive. • CD-RW support for song copy, data backup and import/export of WAV files. • Track-at-a-time audio CD creation using non-consumer CD-R discs. • SCSI interface for connection of external drives. • Eight analogue inputs: one with high-impedance guitar jack, four with 48V phantom-powered XLRs, four with quarter-inch balanced TRS jacks. • Master Output: two quarter-inch unbalanced jacks at -10dBu nominal level. • Monitor Output: two quarter-inch unbalanced jacks at -10dBu nominal level. • Aux Output: single unbalanced quarter-inch jack at -10dBu nominal level. • A-D conversion: 24-bit, 64x oversampling. • D-A conversion: 24-bit, 128x oversampling. • Optical 24-bit S/PDIF I/O with sample-rate conversion of 32kHz and 48kHz sources to 44.1kHz. • 24-channel digital mixer (eight input channels and 16 playback channels), with 32-bit/44.1kHz internal processing. • Three-band EQ on every channel: outer bands fixed shelving, mid-band sweepable. • Onboard Scene automation (with 100 scenes per song) and dynamic automation via MIDI. • Effects: Maximum of eight Insert, two Master and one Final Effect simultaneously, with 44-bit/44.1kHz internal processing. • MTC and MMC transmitted and received; MIDI Clock transmitted. • Tempo map with 200 points per song. • 96 metronome patterns and 215 rhythm patterns. • Four locate points per song and 100 mark points per song. I say almost mint because, apart from being used as an occasional mixer in the spare room, it has only been used for recording twice since I've had it from new, is working perfectly, and is from a smoke free house. All manuals, and original Demo CD are included. I was so busy gigging to pay for it and other gear, I just didn't get around to using it properly. It cost me £1200 new, obviously I'm not looking for anything like that now. £350 plus P&P, or free collection

I saw this last week, but didn't flag it as I thought it was a wee take. However, I have had great fun with Mrs 2pods who works for Amazon.co.uk, asking her what kind of people they let sell over priced stuff on their site

As I am no longer assaulting the ears of the general public ( Stingray, bass 70%, mid 40%, treble 70%, amp flat.), I've been thinking more and more about bass sounds in general. Especially active basses and recording. Obviously, on a reasonably pro recording, notes are made on the bass eq etc, but what about the likes of our home recordings ? There must be some of us who take notes in case of song neglect (Guilty. Start something, lots of gigs, come back to it in a few months, can't remember how the bass eq was set.) but I'm not one of them. As in the original post, I liked Rhino Edwards (though more for his work with Judie Tzuke. Check out his stunning birthday perfomance on the live "Road Noise"), Mark King etc, though I like a nice smooth sound as well. So I think I'm going get the bass out, and try to get at least a "Vanilla" recording starting sound I'm happy with. Oh, I forgot. Have never used flats, though I will give them a go at some point.
Can we not knock it?
Eh ? I'm a bit lost here bigjohn, I thought you thought it was Nina Hagen who did 99 Red Balloons. I was just pointing out it was a different person. I think I like the NH version better just for a change, as has already been said, a lot of bands cover the original "Stick" now. I like 99 Red Balloons too
