1. Thanks Jon. It's just too much for what I ended up doing, but it's a great machine as you say. Peter
2. I'm selling a almost mint Korg D1600 digital multitrack with full 16/24 bit uncompressed recording. Containing a 16 track recorder, 24 channel 8-bus mixer and FX, built in hard drive, built in CDR, touchscreen control, four XLR/balanced line inputs with selectable phantom power, 4 balanced/unbalanced line inputs, optical SPDIF/IO, seperate monitor outs, MIDI IO, full range of digital EQ, FX, Finalisers, Amp sims etc, Scene memories for faders, guitar input, drum machine, and phones output. All manuals, and original Demo CD are included. I was so busy gigging to pay for it and other gear, I just didn't get around to using it properly. It cost me £1200 new, obviously I'm not looking for anything like that now. £350 plus P&P, or free collection
3. I saw this last week, but didn't flag it as I thought it was a wee take. However, I have had great fun with Mrs 2pods who works for Amazon.co.uk, asking her what kind of people they let sell over priced stuff on their site
4. As I am no longer assaulting the ears of the general public ( Stingray, bass 70%, mid 40%, treble 70%, amp flat.), I've been thinking more and more about bass sounds in general. Especially active basses and recording. Obviously, on a reasonably pro recording, notes are made on the bass eq etc, but what about the likes of our home recordings ? There must be some of us who take notes in case of song neglect (Guilty. Start something, lots of gigs, come back to it in a few months, can't remember how the bass eq was set.) but I'm not one of them. As in the original post, I liked Rhino Edwards (though more for his work with Judie Tzuke. Check out his stunning birthday perfomance on the live "Road Noise"), Mark King etc, though I like a nice smooth sound as well. So I think I'm going get the bass out, and try to get at least a "Vanilla" recording starting sound I'm happy with. Oh, I forgot. Have never used flats, though I will give them a go at some point.
5.
Can we not knock it?
Eh ? I'm a bit lost here bigjohn, I thought you thought it was Nina Hagen who did 99 Red Balloons. I was just pointing out it was a different person. I think I like the NH version better just for a change, as has already been said, a lot of bands cover the original "Stick" now. I like 99 Red Balloons too
6. Was that not Nena ?
7. Me likey, oh yus !
8. Used to change the Slinkys on my Stingray every couple of gigs, but since I sold it, stopped gigging, and bought the Ibanez a couple of years ago, I haven't changed the original Elixirs. I know, shameful ! I used to love the sound of new strings, but the Elixirs STILL seem OK.
9. AFAIK John Peel was drafted in to mime the mandolin part on TOTP, 'cos of a MU rule about actual players being represented, or something. I think little Ronnie used Tony Zemaitis custom jobs, as did Ron of the six string variety plus his usual Fenders. I've played it hundereds of times, and still enjoy it's loose, laidback feel, which after all, is what Rod and the Faces were about. It's like "Stay With Me"..great intro, even better outro with solos all 'round, and that bit in the middle Peter

Mr. Foxen

Belated feedback for Oli. He bought my compressor, and was great to deal with. Thanks. Peter
11. I've had a quilted Anni 'ray, so I'd prefer Flamed now, though my current Ibanez isn't a great example.
12. It's only friends (and sometimes not even them-you know who blew up the OHM60 combo !) and trusted bands by prior arangement and/or supervision. It can be even worse with the wedding thing we used to do. End of a good night, getting ready to strip the gear, when a few drunks seem to think if they get their pals to pressure us, I 'll be only too happy to give them my nice Anni 'ray and Trace to abuse. I took the hit for the band, as they had no keyboard player (Ramones tribute band) so ours didn't care, and our other two were "well, if it was just up to us.." (lying through their teeth). I don't care, I just said no from then on (even though I used to bring a far eastern Spector for guys I knew)
13.
Currently the jack casady I now came strung with chrome di'ardio flats, a little old I guess now but they sound great, full of warmth and body, especially with fingers and surprising on the shorter scale. However sometimes I notice that the higher strings can seem rather thin and it doesn't sou d to good when slapped, and since me an the band are becoming more experimental I want to have this ability on the jack casady. I don't really want to take my jaguar to slap the 2 songs I actually slap in. I know I could just use the jag but I want to use both on an equal amount. I'm also looking for the added sustain and overall roundwound tone that I lie on my jag. Anyway, my worry is I've heard that short scale basses can sou d muddy and thumpy with rounds, I also don't want to lose any string tension. I guess my question really is if anyone has had any experience with rounds on this bass how do thy sound? Also could anyone suggest a set that would be ideal, I've always previously used EB super slinks.
I had an Aria TSB550N which was 32" (medium) scale. I used cut down Roto's (there wasn't much choice then locally, though I also liked Dean Markley's) on it, and it sounded great slapped. I think it would be more to do with the PU.
14. Well, Ronnie's got to come up with the alimony somehow Anyway, what happened to Tetsu ?
Circa £200 - but can't recall the exact figure. The original Moon receipt is on file - but don't have the file to hand.
Hah ! I got him to do the same, plus brass percussion plate (his idea, he was also quite keen to stick a bug in there too, but I just took the plate option), to an Aria TSB550N in nineteen canteen for about £60. It was, as they say, a Stoater !
16. SOLD
17. Now Sold Small blue half rack stereo/mono compressor with side chain input. Various presets plus fully manual setting. PSU and manual Sounds good, goes great except for now and then, I have to give the input control a twist. Maybe grotty pot ? Anyway £25
18.
Actually i just saw how much it was. Maybe not then.
Did you try the demo ? I agree re the price. I was thinking £130-£140, not too bad, but £199 and over (some places are £223) is just too much. It's a pity, but it must be selling OK if there has been no reduction in price.
19. Has any one been using this at all ? MarkBass Studio 1 I downloaded the demo (times out in 14 days), and have to say I was impressed ! I found the amp and cab sims a lot better than my old PodXT Live with Bass pack. Considering I was using the standalone version with my bass straight into a Emu 0404USB2 interface, on a standard Windows 7 pc running the usual everyday stuff at the same time, the response was instant. Unfortunately, it's pricey here as opposed to the USA, so I think it will be back to the DI in two weeks. Great while I've got it though
20. Given a well made, comfy, easy to play bass, I'd go for a Roland VG99 and GK PU, and (according to Roland, but I think Ped or CK has one so he'll know) get any sound of any bass and any amp. I must say my guitar version (VG99) works just like it's described, so I'd love to have the loot for the bass version. Plenty of "signature" tones to pick from
21. I don't know about the V-bass, but I've changed the battery on a number of modules, keyboard etc, and didn't lose anything. Maybe I was lucky, but if the battery needs changed, it needs changed.
22.
One of these maybe? http://www.yorkville.com/products.asp?cat=...pe=71&id=80
That looks as if it is. It's a pity there is no UK distributor according to their list
23. About six or seven years ago when I worked in a music shop, we had this little blue carpeted combo with, I think a 10" or 12", (though I'm convinced it was a "10") which sounded great even though it was only about 60w. Although I was gigging a Trace stack at the time, for house practices etc I was using a really crappy 30w Marshall, and this little blue thing blew it and every other baby amp away ! It sounded like a 15" combo with "proper" bottom and punch, having none of the boxiness of the usual combos in the 60-100w range. I should have bought it (not least 'cos I would get a discount ) but I demoed every shop bass through it and eventually sold it. Ever since then I keep trying to remember what it was. I think it was a Yorkville or Maine (these could have been the same makes- I can't remember). I've had another nice "mini" amp since then which reminded me of it, but that was a EA 1AMP350 combo, considerably more power, and more loot. If anything It seems to have been something like the Mark Bass or Phil Jones stuff now. I wish I knew what it was, cos I'd buy one Now I'm not gigging anymore, I'd like a nice light 8" or 10" combo with a bit of the same sound for messing about with, but without getting into the realms of MB, PJ,etc Is there anything available that sounds like the above ?
24.
Price?
Have a bump for a great unit. I love mine, and I'd like a VB99 to go with it (post lottery win, of course)
25. I may as well get a "proper" psu then. It says it can also be powered via phantom power too. Handy for recording Thanks
