  1. Want One! But I’m not supposed to be buying anything this year! ☹️
  2. Sounds like this thread needs reinforcements! I didn’t join as my track record is woeful, but as I’ve not purchased anything yet.... I’m in!
  3. I made my Hipshot fit my Retrovibe and added Gemini pickups. It’s good!
  4. Guitarists are 10 a penny; the others should have said goodbye to him when he threw the toys out and you could have got a new guitarist.
  5. In a nutshell the 4001 was the earlier version of the (current) 4003. It was similar, but the model evolved over the years and at some point the name changed. 4003 is the main version with the shark tooth inlays, bound body and neck. It is also wired for duel outputs, so you can have one pick up out of one amp and the other out of another. There is also the 4003s which is similar, but does not have the binding, inlays or stereo outputs. This originally was a UK only model and was used by a certain Mr McCartney. The 4004 is a modern version. It doesn’t have the scratch plate, binding or stereo and has a different bridge, and pickups in slightly different positions. It is a much more minimalist design but is still the same basic outline. These are not as common as the classic 4003 and 4003s. Recently there has been a 5 string model introduced with a different bridge, but still based around the same outline.
  6. Thank you for the info, You could be right. Thats great.
  7. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if Hipshot HB3 tuners are reversible? (For a 5 sting Sterling Ray 25). Any info appreciated.
  8. I’m thinking of getting one, but wonder if they’re neck heavy?
  9. No, just the DB sounds on a synth, can’t recall which one but it sounded quite authentic. Good point though; latency would likely be an issue for midi control 🤔
  10. Thanks, that’s the sort of info I’m after 😁 Thanks also to @Al Krow excellent info. I’ll be checking all these out.
  11. Thanks guys, I know about foam and hand muting, I’m really after info about if there is a pedal that replicated the tone of a DB and/or the 80s synth sounds. Thank you @Leonard Smalls for the pedal advice,👍 this is what I’m after. Anyone know of any others, either for the DB sound or the 80s synth sounds?
  12. I’ll admit to knowing next to nothing about effects pedals, so am after advice/pointers. If I want to replicate 80s synth bass sounds, with an arpeggiator, is there a pedal that can do this? Similarly, on a keyboard I can cop a double bass sound, but is there a pedal that will let me access these sounds via a bass guitar? Wouldn’t a unit combining this functionality be a winner?
  13. I’ve been asked to join a new band; very exciting as it’s a funk/disco function band and very different from the current rock n roll/60’s gig. I’ll have to work on a different technique, so a bit of a challenge. Anyway I thought it also a good excuse to look at a different bass! 😉 I’m looking at 5 string, active and considering: Lakland 55/02, MM Stingray, Fender Elite Jazz, Sandburg TM, Sadawsky Metroline Express and MTD Kingston. Or should I just get a Sire V2 and have done? All advice and comments welcome! 😁
  14. Great advice, thanks guys! If it were down to me alone, I’d want to put the whole band through the P.A., go down the 735 route and get rid of the back line; but there is zero interest from the others in the band to do that. So I’ve taken Alec’s advice and jumped on the 722s! I’m picking them up this afternoon. its a slight compromise, but I think it makes sense in the band as it is. I’m looking forward to getting them and will gig them in a duo side project this weekend! It should be good!
  15. Thank you Alec, that’s all useful information. Thanks also to the other guys who have given an opinion; it’s much appreciated and will help inform my choice. Cheers!
  16. Replacing a pair of 8 yr old Alto TS15s Band is quite loud (approx 110db) current speakers broken, so good opportunity to upgrade not looking to upgrade in the foreseeable Mics: Shure SM58 x 2 / Shure Beta x 1 Yes, happy with current mixer three individual monitors, (adequate but not great) budget flexible (£400-£1500) Thanks in anticipation 😁
  17. Time has come to get some new P.A. speakers: Four piece band, the P.A. just does 3x vox and a little keyboard here and there. We play social clubs and a few functions, so small to medium sized rooms up to 300 max (often less!) I'm looking for something decent and have heard good things about RCF stuff. So powered with nice sound, compact as possible, flexible budget. Suggestions appreciated
  18. And so it goes on. I appear to have accidentally brought a fretless SpectorCore! (Arrives tomorrow hopefully!)
  19. I have to admit I’m in the same mindset as the OP. I’ve got 2 Vanderkley 1 x 12 and a Mesa head. And I’m thinking of a Rumble or Ashdown, or Mark Bass! GAS is a terrible thing. 😏
  20. I went for the Waverider and Rogue Wave. Very pleased with them 😁
  21. I’ve just fitted a set of Gemini’s to my R** copy 😉
  22. I quite like the idea of a smallish light weight combo for smaller gigs or to put through a P.A. and use as a monitor for larger ones. There seems to be a few examples but these two caught my eye markbass cmd 102p vs ashdown originAL C210-300 i wonder if anyone has any experience or opinions on these or other alternatives?
  23. Well you’re definitely not too old! But that Schecter is very heavy! I’d say too heavy but interesting that it has a great tone, brings up that whole mass = tone question
