1. Thanks. I have a photobucket account so I will just have to exploit that. Anyone know how to get them to appear in my posts rather than having to link to my account page? Can that be done? Apologies for steering this OT guys, feel free to delete once resolved.
2.
You've probably filled your allocated space for uploading on Basschat. I would recommend uploading the photos to flickr or similar and linking to them in your post, as opposed to uploading directly into your post.
Am I only allowed to upload 30mb of pics, ever ever ever? Surely some people have posted loads of pics? I haven't posted that many.
3. http://youtu.be/c-6rzOTMR6A You may argue that it's technically not a cover, but I'd bend the rules for this if I may. That rhythm section too - oh! And of course, Hendrix's sublime cover of All Along The Watchtower.....my favourite cover of all time.
4. Ach. Having problems uploading photos again. Worked fine the other day and now I'm getting Error: This upload failed. Most frustrating.
5. Thanks Gary Yeah, last summer when Fender were doing their annual Roadshow, every email address who ordered tickets were entered into a draw to win the Fender Am Std guitar of their choice. I was the lucky winner! Forgot all about it and thought the email was spam. Almost deleted it! Spent two hours wondering about it and then googled the name on the email, turns out it was legit. I was over ze moon!
6. My 2015 Am Std Jazz what I got for nowt.
7. I dunno why but I thought it was a combo. Back to sleep, FD!
8. I would love to hear some soundclips of this pickup in action. Anybody?
9. Eric Johnson and his bizarre claim that duracell batteries sound better in his pedals. Nah man, you need to see a doctor! I only give some credence to the "tone is in the fingers" adage - I sound a lot better playing a Jazz bass through a good amp than I do playing a cheap bass through a cheap amp. I think fingers are the last variable in shaping that tone, but gear is the foundation of the tone IMO.
10.
Yeah, adding my credit card to my PayPal account did result in finally getting some kit I desperately needed... Interest free! PayPal do offer credit too should that be needed.
I don't have a credit card but the paypal credit thing is tempting. Probably daft interest rates though. I'll have a look.
11. Tremendous offer. I would certainly be open to that. It's looking like a Markbass head on the top. The sheer enthusiasm for BF cabs on these pages alone serves as a ringing endorsement.
12. God that is lovely. GLWTS.
13.

Model? How much do they go for? I want one!!
14. Emailed them late last night. Had a reply at 07:40 this morning. Top service.
15.
Wilkinson Vintage bridges are cracking and great value for money. Have used them on a few basses. They are very well made, substantial and the brass saddles do it for me. Wilkinson tuners are also great. There is an online site in China, www.eyguitarmusic.com, that I tend to use for hardware. Good prices, (well pre the Brexit vote they were), and quick delivery Changing the Pots/Jack to CTS/Switchcraft will make a big difference for not much money. If you aren't handy with a soldering iron, then Ki0gon is your man. Will a standard pickup fit? If not what about speaking to Aaron Armstrong. the UK arm of Kent Armstrong, who could re-build your existing pickup to sound however you want or if standard size, look at what he can do for you. Prices are more than reasonable. This guy can also make whatever you want in a pickup and is apparently the man. http://jlguitars.eu/shop/index.php
Thank you, this is exactly the type of input I've been craving. Soldering isn't my thing, and I spoke to Ki0gon a while back about his kits and it's my best option I think. I foolishly assumed a standard P-replacement pickup would fit, this is something I'll need to investigate. I'll have a good look at that site and see if there's anything I could use. Pots and caps? Well sir.....I know nothing, so I had better get studying! Many thanks for this, very very helpful
16. Yeah, I like Ashdown stuff, everything sounds great. That's pretty lightweight for an Ashdown, too. Worth a closer look, for sure.
17. I watched a few videos on YouTube tonight and was suitably impressed by how meaty they are and how sweet the tone is. The 58 P is especially gorgeous, gives a lot of pickups a run for their money. Whips the SD and Dimarzios, IMO
18. The bass on Simple Minds records is almost always excellent. I like the album in question but can only remember a couple of tracks. Nothing sticks out from memory as sounding like Marcus though. I'd be equally interested to hear the answer to this one.
19.
^^^ I wonder where that's going... Any particular reason why you are particularly interested in buying new? 2nd hand will give you so many other options, and a second hand cab at least has its speaker properly broken in
As stated above, it's to do with financing. Shame, as I could potentially pick up a beauty 2nd hand.
20.
Do you actually want a 2x10" or simply a cab whose loudness/tone/bottom is in the same ballpark as a typical 2x10"?
I'm open-minded Alex! What do you suggest?
21. How hard is it for a complete novice to replace bridge? Is it unscrew, remove, line up, screw, done? Or is there voodoo involved?
22. Any owners/users/fans? Just got turned onto these today and I have to say, I am highly impressed. Quite why I haven't heard more about them is a mystery, I think they sound immense. I'm going to get a 58 split coil P for my project bass, need to see if they're compatible with my current pots though. Lovely sounding pickups.
23. Nice bits, but they look a bit pricey, no?
24. I've set a budget for the project, and I'm thinking of saving money on the bridge in order to allow me a better pickup. To that end, I think it'll be a Wilkinson bridge, and this here pickup, which is about £30 more expensive than the Fender I had considered - but when I heard this beast in action I knew right away I had found the sound I'm after: http://youtu.be/Bd1vBVU5suU
