Yip, that's a staple on my playlist now. Listened to it about thirty times since Wednesday.

Can you post a couple of photos of your new baby?

I can't believe Joe Dart's name isn't on the cover of every bass magazine on the planet right now. Give it time. Cream always rises.
It's because it's the easiest Prince song for a guitar/bass/drums/vox band to cover.
That answer satisfies me, believe it or not. Makes sense. I waive my objection

Apologies if this in the wrong forum; feel free to berate me and relocate this if needs be. My first bass was bequeathed to me by a friend. It was the bass that started it, and if not for a chance conversation I would likely not be having the time of my life playing this instrument. It's a pink Jim Deacon P bass, but it started the journey and I will never part wirh it. Aaaaaaaanywaaaaaaay......that bass has stickers on it, and I want to remove them. Does anyone know how I can remove them fairly quickly and easily without damaging the paint? Ta muchly

Is this guy the next big bass hero? Only just got into them, after seeing their name being bandied about for months now. Joe's feel, sense of groove and dynamics utterly floored me. Just an upsettingly good player, right up my street and has really inspired me to practice my butt off.

How are these things in terms of heft?

Joined. Never really read or post there, for the reasons many have mentioned already - but I have found myself there through googling bass related problems and had my problems solved with an approximate 50% success rate. BC is just flat-out better, a nicer place to hang out and ask questions, IMO. Far less conflict in 'ere.

......why is EVERYONE covering Purple Rain in tribute? The guy recorded 17,000 songs (maybe) and EVERYONE is doing Purple Rain. Stop it. Somebody pick another song. Please. I'm going to lose appreciation for the song. I get it. Big power ballad. Dead guy. Emotive. But please - somebody pick another song to cover. Sorry, it's been bothering me for days now.

Marq "Remarqable" Jefferson. Fantastic musical bass playing.

Lamarqis is outstandingly musical. A difficult line to learn, but it's a tune all by itself. That feel is outrageous. -
Principle involved here or am I over reacting?

I agree with the OP, that's shameful behaviour, but I imagine the owner is collecting money from the punters to meet your fee so he can pocket the takings from the till. Is it right? No. Is it nice? No. Fair? No. Smart? I hate myself for this, but.....probably. It's sickening. I actually got mad reading the original post. -

I considered the Ampeg in question, and while I never played one, I did extensive reading of reviews and the overwhelming response was that, while it's a good-sounding amp, it lacks power, and more concerning is that it seems to be unreliable. An alarming amount of reviews reported that the amp craps out at high volume. This immediately put me off, unfortunately. The Fender Rumble 500v3 combo is getting rave reviews at the moment - even Duff McKagan has jumped from Gallien-Krueger to Fender recently. For power and portability, it seems to be the one at the moment. While I'm tempted by it, I'm still swithering over whether to maybe opt for a second hand Genz Benz Contour or an SWR. It can get confusing when everyone starts to weigh in with their opinions. I tend to see what comes back as the more frequently recommended options, then road test them or visit YouTube and listen to demos. The GK recommended would, as others have said, give you excellent oomph for the style of music you play and the right amount of bang for thy buck. Keep us posted, and let us know what you plump for in the end.

Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string Vintage P bass SWR Redhead

A quick jaunt to wikipedia reveals that they do indeed have an association with SWR! Shoulda checked there before I sent the initial post So.....recommendations?

Can anyone tell me a bit more about these amps? What's the background of the company? I think I may have read or heard recently that they have an association with SWR, is this true? How do they sound? No dealers in my part of the world, sadly, but I am curious. What's good in the range, combos and/or separates-wise?
Where flats are flat textured, i.e. no windings, they don't accumulate dirt and sweat as much as rounds do, and are easier to clean/maintain meaning you can get MUCH more life out of them. I've gigged and played for at least 1 hour EVERY day for the whole time I've had these strings on my bass, and the life of them is awesome, initially they were bright, like a new round wound string, though not quite as bright, but within a month they deadened off and have VERY slowly become more settled tone wise, now they are perfect for me, they're still bright and articulate enough, but they do thud well too! Where are you based, if you're near Portsmouth we can arrange a meet up and I can show you exactly what I mean! In the meantime listen to/watch this video of Ed Friedland discussing P Basses. His 1973 P has 17 year old LaBella's on it!!! https://youtu.be/TMNTN-9SAUQ
Aha, right, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation, and for the video. I happen to love Ed Friedland, he's my favourite guy to watch for gear demos on YouTube, great player currently on tour with The Mavericks. I do not like The Mavericks. Unfortunately I'm in Scotland, but thanks for the invitation, that's really kind of you. I see my next purchase being a set of flats!
That sounds good for DRs . Im keen to try them. Do you not get hit for duty or tax?
Nope. No hidden charges.

Ridiculously good guitarist. Has an Allan Holdsworth type legato.
-
Two years? How does that work? I've never used flats, so I don't know the ins and outs. That is incredible, and in fairness that does make sense economically when you put it like that.
-
James: where did you purchase your TIs? I do think £32 is expensive for a set of strings. Depends on how wealthy/poor/tight you are I guess. I'm definitely in the latter bracket!
