1. https://youtu.be/tLi8pOa6zYk Here's a demo by Ed Friedland.
2. That's plumber behaviour. Doesn't he understand the concept of an audition?
3. Cheers! I
4.
It's the one with Dougie White on vox. Not bad but a bit 'generic' I thought.
My mum's cousin! I joked at the time that I would see him with Malmsteen in a few years. He laughed, but sure enough.......after RB's Rainbow, he got the Malmsteen gig!
5. Which session bassist invoiced a famous band (The Stones, maybe?) after unsuccessfully auditioning for them? I read about it on this very forum a while back and cannot for the life of me remember who it was.
6. Best rock band on the planet for the last 10 years IMO. By a mile.
7. Maruszcyk, all day long.
8.
DR Sunbeams, very warm, quickly lose their top end, but still have a lively beefy character.
This. Or, I just got a set of the DR Pure Blues and they have a colossal thump to them. A tiny bit zingy at the mo as I just put them on about 12 hours ago, but I'm confident they will go the way of the Sunbeams and the zing will be gone in ten days or so. But the sound off these bad boys is massive. Massive, I tell you!
9. Congrats on your new beauty! Videos please!
10. Watched this clip again and fell in love with the bass again. It's called a Sterling 5, and not, say a Ray35 or something? I'm having trouble finding one to price it.
11. Motherwell born and bred here Moved to Beith a few years ago. Miss the 'Well, but whenever I go back, it's changed so much it barely seems like home anymore. Welcome to BC.
12.
Me too. I was waiting for the hook, but their wasnt one.
This.
13. Very talented lady for sure, but her music does nothing for me.
14. Patrick Leonard, who produced the track, said in a Billboard interview that Guy Pratt was the bassist.
15. Guy is a monster player, absolutely tremendous bassist. Played on Madge's 'Like A Prayer'. Listen to the bass on that song - it's quite superb.
16. Dang. I really want this, but I can't make it happen at the mo. Mudpup is right, btw, these are superb basses and pretty hard to come by. If anyone is curious, Ed Friedland has demo'd these on youtube. They sound terrific. GLWTS.
17. https://youtu.be/Hk7MCvCHNQA That's one of the few instances of fretless playing/tone that I actually love. Everyone loves Pino's line from 'Wherever I Lay My Hat' but I think the tone is horrid. It's a nice line but the tone isn't my cup of tea at all.
18. What's all the fuss about with this gizmo?
19. Funkshui has pretty much nailed it. I don't have it horizontal when seated, it is defenitely at more of angle, and it's hard to replicate that when standing.
20. Why can't I do it? Sitting down, I can jam through some Rush, Chili Peppers, Jamiroquai, Chic and even a couple of Level 42 songs. Standing up? I can barely play along with a Nirvana song without slopping it up. I'm thinking it must be something to do with hand position, but my instrument is at the same position as it is when I sit down. What on earth could the problem be? I can't get any speed or control in my plucking, can't get the nice ticklish light touch I use for fast playing. If I raise the bass up to a position where it's so high I could pluck with my tongue, I do a little better, but my left hand is suddenly in an uncomfortable position where I can't get freedom of movement.
21. Still trying to figure it out, but a straightish neck, low action but no fretbuzz. I do like quite a high tension in the strings though, that's a recent development.
22. Yeah, totally, Superunknown is one of my all time favourite albums!
23. You're right, Kev. My comment actually looks a bit silly now. But the song still sucks. As a marker of talent - Sam Smith wrote this in twenty minutes, which is five minutes longer than it took Chris Cornell to write Black Hole Sun. It should be like with actors - Chris Cornell should get a five film deal to do the theme songs etc. Is Shirley the only artist to do more than one theme song? I have no idea why we're getting so upset and protective about this issue, but.....we are, rather, aren't we?
24. This is what you get when you let some flavour of the month do the Bond theme. Sam Smith sounds like he should haunt houses, to me - but what do I know?
