1. I'm having this problem at the moment, and all I did qas change my strings. My bass is all rattley and my left hand seems to have lost most of its dexterity. The gauge is more or less the same, but I"ve gone from Dunlop Super Brights to D"Addario Balanced Tension, and my playing has just.....gone....
2. Congratulations, and thank you for this. A fabulous and essential guide for any bassist. Would it be okay if I share this link elsewhere? I will give you full credit when doing so, naturally.
3. At the risk of being extremely forward, I'm looking to try an Elwood 4 before committing to purchase one next year. If anybody in Scotland or North England would be willing to let me loose in their home for an hour, I would be forever indebted.
4. Yes indeed. I wouldn't necessarily expect it back within a month due to how long shipping takes but I would've hoped the repair would be completeda and sent back. At the very least, I would have hoped for an email. They did say it would be repaired immediately - from that I assume a week. If it's going to take a fortnight, say so. I'm not impatient but I would expect communication.
5. What's a reasonable turnaround for fixing a preamp? I sent my bass back to Thomann and received an email dated 8th July saying they had received it and it would be dealt with immediately. It's now the 4th of August, no bass and no contact from Thomann. Am I being impatient, or does that seem like a good while to swap or repair a faulty preamp? I will give them to the 8th, that's a month, and if I don't hear from them I will chase it up, I've never done this before but I would've expected some communication by now?
6. Sorry!
7. I checked some videos on YouTube of the Maruczszyk (that never gets any easier to spell) and they sound as gorgeous as they look. I'm certaonly thinking about it.
8. Thanks for posting, that's given me serious food for thought. I read about the Maruczszyk basses a few weeks back and they look fantastic. I had read elsewhere that someone had paid around $1600 for their ADE bass (around £1200) and I thought that was alright for a part custom Fender USA Jazzer, but if it's going to be nearer $2000 to import it, sack that! I will look more into Maruczszyk though, looks more like my budget.
9. That's certainly true, and by a couple of hundred quid at least.
10. Wow, that seems pricey to me. To put it in perspective that's more than either of my current basses cost!
11. Yeah, I must have it! Had a Squier Troy Sanders Jaguar (those are great basses for the money) but gave it up because I just hated the shape. Vowed to have another Silverburst bass someday.
12. It's my 40th next year and I fancy treating myself to something nice. Saw a pic of a Jazz bass in Silverburst last night and it looked simply gorgeous, and after a bit of digging I found out the only to get one is via the Fender ADE. Any basschatters have any experience or info on this? Is it worth the dough? Some people say the options are pretty limited but I'm not overly fussy about pickup spacing and the like - just want a J bass in Silverburst with blocks and binding, and this seems like the omly way to get one. Alternatively, how much does it typically cost to get a bass resprayed?
13. 40w, 1x10. Way more power than needed but then it's also adequate for small jams. Made a delicious blackcurrant one just last week.
14. "But he's thirteen" And that's why. I disagree with that being used as a reason to promote him, btw. Is he good for his age? Yeah. Is he good compared to the other contestants? No, he's sloppy.
15. NONE?? One P Bass and one Jazz in Glasgow, and about 6 Strats. Yolanda is a fab bassist, very inspiring to see her. Consummate professional. And Rob Harris is a well tasty guitarist.
16. http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/22746-beef-its-watts-for-dinner?page=1 WELL worth a read if a large portion of amplification is all Greek to ya (as it is to me).
17. Beautiful bass. How hard was the mod? I have one of these in blue, but it needs taming and I'm loathe to invest - probably just going to sell it, sadly.
18. Nah he's filed for one of his many companies. He's still absolutely minted. Stupid clickbait headline.
19. Self-taught all the way. Would like lessons but it would mean a lengthy travel.
20. I'm in Ayrshire, would certainly be up for a Scottish bass bash.
21. I love Dave Hill! Always looks like he's having the time of his life onstage. Does anyone remember when Reeves and Mortimer parodied Slade? The likenesses were uncanny.
22. Just received an email from Thomann saying they have received my bass (sent back for warranty repair) - eleven days after I posted it. Not complaining, just updating
23.
I have been on eBay since it started, probably have 700 transactions. I don't usually bother anymore as it's meaningless. If you're a buyer and there's a dispute, you'll always win. The only feedback I look for is negative on odd looking listings. EBay isnt there to build your ego with positive feedback.
These aren't 'likes' on facebook, these are testimonies which validate that you are a legitimate and trustworthy individual to enter into a financial transaction with.
24. There is a general lack of etiquette which is now rife on the web. It used to be that positive feedback on eBay was something people went out of their way to earn, and give in return - but in recent times I have seen a real drop-off in both manners and good practice on eBay and other sites. More and more people don't give a rip as long as they get their goods (or money, in the case of sellers) and then they just move on. Trust on these sites is built through good transactions and trustworthy people are identified by good feedback. If someone has low positive feedback (even if there's no negatives) a lot of people are simply reluctant to trade with them. If these low feedback numbers are the result of people not leaving feedback, that unfortunately makes it harder for the user to do business. My last few eBay deals have been like this (no feedback left) and it's a pain in the tights.
