1. Well, this has been a succesful thread!
2. John Taylor!
3. Okay, who'd be your personal preference?
4. So, money is no object - you can have your very own custom bass guitar, your way. Who do you trust to build you the perfect bass, and what gives him the edge? Who's the Michelangelo of luthiers?
5. Congratulations, some bit o'gear.
6. I thought JPJ was widely regarded as one of the greatest bassists of all time?
7. Been eyeing up Warwick Corvette $$ today, but I'm pretty sure they'd be too chunky at the neck for my useless girly hands. Listened to some demos of Ashdown amps, but there is no way I'd want to lug anything that heavy about.

I'll tell you what, that is a bloody beautiful instrument. Congrats Tom, she is most droolworthy.
9. Hunter Burgan from AFI - great lines, great playing, great tone. In fact - MONSTER tone. I also dig Mike Inez's style. Spector tones, lots of melody and movement in his playing....love it. Plus, I never see Mark White's name mentioned anywhere these days. Dude can play.
10.
It's to stop ringing and overtones and provide a modicum of muting. I've tried the Gruv Gear Fretwrap but didn't like it - obviously it will only mute open strings and not fretted strings. Also it takes up too much space at the nut first/fret. I'm going to try the new rubbery thing that fits over the strings at the bridge (also from Gruv) which hopefully will be like a more controllable version of the traditional foam sponge.
Please give us one of your superb reviews when you've had some time with it. You do a better job than a lot of pro music journos! (Actually!)
11. Yes, John's been in touch
12. Yeah, I know I'm sorry I responded to that so bluntly, I didn't mean to be rude. I'm genuinely terrible at stuff like that, and yes, I should learn - but if I screw up I'm snookered. I'm terrified of wiring, hence my reluctance to try it.
13. I've never tried a Geddy Lee jazz but I've been eyeing them up. Lovely basses. I'm at a gear crossroads here, I either sell all my gear and start anew, probably with a Fender Jazzer, or I keep my Squier and add a Squier VM Jazz or something like a Sire V7. But I will never buy a bass without playing it first, too easy to make an expensive mistake. thanks to everyone for the input so far
14. Thanks fellas. Wow, £20? Not shabby! Pity I'm in Scotland
15.
Alright Guys and Girls, I've got an old MIM Fender Precision that's just sitting in the corner collecting dust (literally). I've been toying with the idea again about having a fretless for playing Jazz with but funds are tight. Do i... A) defret the precision and get some new hardware to spruce it up Swap it for a fretless of similar value or... C) Sell it and Buy something else?
D) Give it to Funky Dunky Seriously though, I would go with B or C if it were my choice. Or as has been said, sell it, buy a Squier VM fretless. Pocket a few bob.
16. If you can apply the words thick and chunky to it compared to anything other than a wafer, it"s probably not gonna suit me. I have gimpety hands. Thin, shallow necks all the way for me.....
17. Did Jason use a Spector on the black album? Always thought it sounded like a Spector on Enter Sandman.
18. Thank you, that's very helpful.
19. Just out of curiosity, roughly what do shop techs charge to put a new pickup in a bass these days? Since I'm punting my Sterling, I might as well beef up my trusty ol' Squier.
20. Thanks for this Andy, yeah they sound nice and vintage. I like how they sound slapped. Gorgeous bass, btw, most droolworthy
21. Mods, please delete this on the grounds that I'm a silly man who doesn't read things properly.
22. Listening to this I'm reminded just how bad a drummer Lars actually is. Horrid, lumpy disjointed playing. And don't get me started on Quirk Crammit. His note choice is just abysmal - but I give him all the credit in the world for his rhythm playing. Dude goes stroke for stroke with James Hetfield (fnarr) on those riffs, and he does it live.
23. Oh you must've been gutted! I can't believe I hadn't heard of him sooner, incredible chops, wicked tone and great composition. What else do you recommend by/featuring him?
24. Yeah, that would be fine, anything at all that lets us hear them!
25. Any soundclips or video yet Andy?
