1. Had the pleasure of meeting Pete yesterday to try out, and then rehome his Aguilar DB751. Great communication from start to finish along with a kind offer to meet closer. It is fair to say Pete has great taste in gear and looks after everything well, and it really was an absolute pleasure to meet and chat about all things bass. Deal with him with complete confidence, a credit to the bass community.
2. Been through a rhythm and notation course at Zoltan's Bass Lounge. Really good!! I so often get caught in melodic playing (that's what I call it, some would say random meanderings) that I don't always give rhythm as much focus as it should get. And to be fair, it should get a lot of focus!!!! There's some great "simple" bass lines out there which just capture so much by nailing the rhythm side of things. https://zoltansbasslounge.com/electric-bass/courses/rhythm-notation-volume-1/
3. A new course for bass guitar has gone onto Zoltan's Bass Lounge now, and this is free as well along with everything else on there at the moment. It covers the major scales and has sections for both 4 string and 5 string which is really cool. Another good one to check out, which is where I will be going shortly to get properly stuck in!
4. @stewblack Really pleased you like it. I've been very fortunate to have some 1-2-1 electric lessons with Zoltan and he is such a great teacher as well as being a sought after player. Those things don't always go hand in hand! He has really pulled my playing up, and my musical understanding for that matter, from where it was before. And with upright, my only tuition so far has been from his foundation course through to the technical studies that he's got on his website. I've still got a very long way to go but it was the best start I could have wished for. I hope you keep enjoying it.
5. It's obviously a very testing time for everybody, and to try and help out I see that Zoltan Dekany (monster electric and double bass player as well as being a superb tutor) has made all of his courses and lessons free for the next little while. They're all on his bass education website https://www.zoltansbasslounge.com/ and there's material for electric bass and double as well. Like I say, he's a great tutor and his double bass courses gave me a great start to what was a new instrument to me.
6. If anyone fancies working on their upright playing, this is a great course at Zoltan's Bass Lounge. I've learnt loads about upright playing from Zoltan's website - to be honest that has been my only instruction since I got my stringed wardrobe. https://www.zoltansbasslounge.com/course/create-simple-bass-lines/
7. If you want to learn more about bass - be it bass guitar or upright bass - you should check out the website of Zoltan Dekany at https://www.zoltansbasslounge.com/. Zoltan is a very well thought of professional player and he is also a fantastic teacher which isn't something that always goes hand in hand (from my experience anyway)!!!! Zoltan teaches beginners through to some well known names in the bass world so he can pitch explanations of ideas very well to whatever level. There's some great content on the site and there is more stuff on the way.
8. I know this is an old thread (almost positively ancient), but Zoltan has got a site out now which you might be interested in. It's got some electric and double bass courses with more stuff to come. https://www.zoltansbasslounge.com
9. Black Sabbatical are an Ozzy years musical tribute to Black Sabbath - we don't look like them and there's not much chance that we ever well so we play their great tunes. As there are a few gigs kicking about, it's time to put a few on here and hopefully get a few people out to make a night of it. August 3rd - The Flying Circus, Newark August 11th - The Musician, Leicester August 12th - Tap 'n' Tumbler, Nottingham November 18th - The Castlegate, Grantham If anyone is into their Facebook, we keep this page pretty much up to date. 10. I saw them at Brixton on Friday. Absolutely amazing night - what a great bunch of musicians all round from the minute House of Waters came on stage. Have you seen the House of Waters snippet stage videos that they've put online? Really cool.
11. Hello there, couldn't help but notice that you're in Woodhall. I'm not too far away in Scopwick. I'm afraid I don't know much about grades myself but good luck with it, I'm sure you'll nail it. By the way, who makes the donation to your daughter? Could it be worth a 50/50 split? Thanks for mentioning the Suspicious Pigeons, I'll keep an eye out for them. I've not come across them yet.
12. Some fantastic recordings, really enjoyed listening. If you weren't three hours away I think I'd be all over this. Good luck with finding someone.
13. And after nearly two years, the boys are going back out (albeit with a new name and a new drummer). http://basschat.co.uk/topic/300556-mortland-tap-n-tumbler-nottingham-sat-march-11th/
