I'm still enjoying my two, no gas for anything else except maybe an XP 1T5 with flats as an additional toy
I've been reading a lot about these 'Crazy' cabs. How much low end do they actually put out? Have you tried the Crazy88 too? Oh, and finally, how good are they with electric bass, and I think they were originally intended for Double and Acoustic Bass use... Cheers, Eude
I'm an electric player, 5 string. The low end is good, don't know how the roll off specs compare (nowhere near the BB2), but I like the sound it produces, no lack of bass for me, but i'm not doing reggae!. I use mine with a GK MB800 ( i know it's more powerful than the Crazy 8 should handle) it sounds fine with input gain at 11 oclock and master at 12 oclock with my basses. I have the bass at 12 oclock with the crazy8, but back it off to 10 oclock with the BB2. Crazy8 takes slapping on the B string at this level. I wasn't expecting the Crazy8 to handle this as well as it does, it was bought to do restaurant gigs where i have to carry a distance. Turns out I use it in medium sized pubs with 5 piece band...electric piano, bass, drums, sax and vocals. I think the Crazy88 would be great, but weighs in at more than the BB2. The Crazy8 i have weighs 20lbs, has the newer rear port, from Tricky audio, nicely built.

I've owned an EA wizzy10 and found it had poor low end performance and farted out very early. I've owned and use BF cabs, they're great and also recently bought a Greenboy Crazy 8, which blows the EA wizzy10 out the water. The Crazy 8 exceeds all expectations i had. The BF ONE10 doesn't have a tweeter, so for my tonal preferences that's why I went for the Crazy 8

Mesa Boogie D 800 subway vs Gallien Krueger mb 800
MOSCOWBASS replied to john longo's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have an MB800 I use into a BF BB2 and Midget t. I really like the MB800 over other small class D bass amps i've used. My Barefaced cabs are 8 ohms, so worth pointing out the MB800 has 560 watts into 8 ohms compared to 400 from the D800 and also the new Genzler amp. Both new amps look nice on paper and i will be watching the threads over the coming months to see how they compare. -

Ruminations on the classic 8x10 and the Barefaced One10
MOSCOWBASS replied to tonewheels's topic in Amps and Cabs
For $40 I'd use a couple of doorstops.
That's why I use some polypropylene packaging, it's very light to carry too...lol -

You could try an Ampwege between the lower and upper stacked One10's, this might be enough to direct the sound up towards you. I use a piece of plastic packaging to lift the front of my BB2 up, it makes a big difference. http://www.ampwedge.com/ http://www.talkbass.com/attachments/image-jpg.714838/ -
Why are different 500watt heads rated differently at 8ohms?
MOSCOWBASS replied to dave_bass5's topic in Amps and Cabs
Sorry Dave, that is an interesting question as to why some amps reputedly deliver more or less into 8 ohms. I’ve read that the Glok Blue Sky delivers less than expected, yet the GK mb800 is pretty healthy at 8 ohms. -

MOSCOWBASS replied to dave_bass5's topic in Amps and Cabs
You would be better off with an 800 ish watt head, so you would get 500+ watts into the BB2. It's not for volume as much as headroom. -
The BBNE2 is at least 18mm, maybe slightly more. You should look at the Sterling By Musicman Ray 35, the string spacing is 17.5mm and you should be able to pick up a second-hand one in your budget.
The BB NE2 has a 17.5 mm string spacing, i've measured mine. I knew it was noticeably less then my 19mm Xotics, it takes a bit to get used to the gap difference

I have Yamaha NE BB2 that has about 17.mm string spacing, more that your budget, but there is an older version here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/272405-yamaha-bbn5a-90s-discont-model/page__p__2900894__hl__yamaha__fromsearch__1#entry2900894 May be worth asking what the string spacing is?

I can't speak for the Sowdowsky, but I own 2 Xotic XJ_1T 5strings and they are one of the nicest basses I've played. If you are in Glasgow on the 7th nov, i'll be in the Partick Brewing Co. with a big band. (free entry) and the 3 Judges on Sunday 8th....also Partick

Woes of a flobby B - anything that can improve the situation?
MOSCOWBASS replied to Naetharu's topic in Bass Guitars
Funnily enough I went back to D'Addarios on my BB and the irony is that's what comes fitted out of the factory (although probably a 130 not 135)! Next string change though will be Dunlop Super Bright Nickels, I've heard great things about them and word on the street is if you like D'Addario nickels you'll love these.
I really like D'addario XL170 nickels, but hated Dunlop Super Bright steels and nickels, they have a much lower tension and steels sounded really "coloured" and Nickels had intonation problems. Just my opinion and experience. I've also owned 2 x 36" scale Overwaters, a 6string fretless and a 5 string fretted, a 35" scale Overwater jazz and now have 2 x Xotic XJ-1T's and a Yamaha BB Ne2. My present 3 basses are 34" scale and have better more defined "B's" than the longer scale basses i've owned, so scale length isn't necessarily the answer to a good sounding "B". Beware the 36" 6 string, the top "C" was very twangy and guitar like due to the extra tension. -
I remember a 5 hour gig with my Mk1 WAL being painful! I don't know what it weighed, but it was significantly heavier than my 76 P bass. That was late 80's when my back was also significantly younger!

Great little amp, I bought mine as a backup, but use it regularly at small gigs. As a matter of interest, i compared mine to my MB800 at a small gig, through my BF Midget T and the pic shows the controls, that to me matched level and tone pretty close.

Looking for a good quality aftermarket hard-case for my bass
MOSCOWBASS replied to Naetharu's topic in Bass Guitars
There are 2 sizes of Hiscox bass case, make sure your bass wiil fit OK. I needed the larger size for my 5 string Overwater and Xotic(34") Jazz basses. Hiscox will supply extra padding for the case if you need it to secure your bass. They are brilliant cases. -
Haven't tried that combination, but I do occasionally use my G2 Midget t with my Big Baby2 when more volume is needed and i'm happy with the results. May not be an ideal pair from Alex's point of view, but it achieves the required results for me on the very few occasions it's required.

Martin, i think the bass ape is talking about was the 20th anniversary bass, about 1999, mine was the 25th anniversary one, but wasn't featured in a magazine
-
MB200 and Barefaced midget t, the lightest "usable" rig that I could find that has enough power in hand in case the gig turns out to a bit louder than you thought.

What can I use to clean and restore ebony fretless neck please?
MOSCOWBASS replied to zawinul's topic in Bass Guitars
Be careful with Lemon Oil, it contains Limonene which is a solvent for things like superglue. Fingerboard line markings may be glued in with superglue and could be loosened with Limonene. I know Lemon Oil has been used for many years, but just a word of caution. -

I always thought my iamp 800 sounded sterile and lacked "guts" compared to my iamp350
